well it wasn't necessarily a purchase, but when i traded my first xbox 360 and 5 games for a ps3 and 1 game. because i then realized how much better the 360 actually was.

Morrowind and Oblivion... I got them both on steam for like $5... I dislike both with a great intensity...

oh yes and Fallout 3... I've been playing for about 6 hours and I've been wondering when it's gonna get good...

Fallout: New Vegas.
I thought it looked kinda cool, so I decided to buy it, but I couldn't get into it at all. I stopped playing it after about half an hour.
What a waste of 30 quid!

Hmm. I'm going to say Star Ruler. Bought it because it was on preorder sale and it looked like SoaSE... boy, that was wrong. Half-finished (literally), slow, buggy, turn-based strategy game with no singleplayer campaign (the single point in which it matched SoaSE)... sad.
Turn-based? I'm not sure you actually played the game if you believe it to be TBS. Typo? :s
Also, I'd recommend checking out the latest patches if you haven't; the game has been significantly updated since launch with 11 major patches (with patch 12 coming out in the next few days most likely).

The sequel to Catch-22. I vaguely recalled that it was a dud, but the price prompted me to buy it against my better senses.

I tend to premeditate my purchases pretty thoroughly, so I won't be of any help here. I often immediately regret it when my parents buy something... that's my heritage you're spending, dammit! Hey, this'd be a fun topic, if I wasn't so lazy.

Mass Effect, Dragon Age: Origins, Diablo and Diablo II come to mind. Horribly boring games.
In case you really weren't trolling, a little friendly advice: If you didn't like one title of a studio whose games all follow the basic formula, don't buy another one. And (although this one should be even more obvious), if you didn't like a specific title, don't buy its sequel. Assuming here you didn't buy them at the same time, otherwise the advice is "try one first before buying the other one".

Red Dead Redemption and Force Unleashed 2. God, why. That's £80 gone.
God, I know what you mean. I didn't play The Force Unleashed 1, but my friend convinced me to buy the collectors edition of the The Force Unleashed 2. I'm not sad though; I'll wring him for every penny 'till I get that £50 back. I feel for you, mate!

I have bought several games of the XBox Arcade and instantly regretted them, as I had only been addicted by the demo for 10 minutes and then I spontaneously bought it.

Also, I think I bought Carcassonne literally one week before Microsoft gave it to everyone for free.

Almost any subway sub I've bought MAYBE excluding when the sub of the day was only £2 and there was a good one on, otherwise, nearly every single unsatisfying, shallow, processed £7 disappointment I've ever bought there, but I seem unable to learn and proceed to buy them semi-regularly or regularly enough for it to be a common money sink.

Final Fantasy 9 with one of the discs missing was pretty arse too, and since I bought it from a charity shop I felt obligated to keep it and not complain. Asking for my money back from a charity shop is something my brain won't allow me to do, especially seeing as I've saved fortunes on books there in the past.

Halo ODST. (Shouldve been a fricking DLC).

Lost Planet 2 (A fucking piece of shit game. Its inferior to its predecessor on all levels, avoid this one like cancer.) I bought it and regretted it after having played it for 10 min.

"The Dwarves" and "The War of the Dwarves".

Worst fantasy bullshit I have ever read.
