If motion control catches on to the point where traditionally-controlled games become a minority, I'll quit gaming.

I play games to relax. I do not relax by waving my limbs around like a bloody air traffic controller.

I think this poll needs more options.

There's no way motion control is going to completely take over, but it's not going to go the way of the pet rocks. I suspect things just going to continue with both running around.

...Or virtual reality will be perfected, and kick all their asses.

I didn't vote because there's no option to say that both will coexist. Motion controlled games and games with excess peripherals have been around for ages and I don't see the market for them ever dwindling. There will most certainly be waves, but there are some games that are genuinely engaging with motion control, or at least the benefit of a pointer (House of the Dead comes to mind immediately), and thus I hope to see that motion controls are here to stay. At the very least, I can play some great arcade-style games on a nice TV in the comfort of my own home.

I'd love to say that motion control is just a fad, but I highly doubt that to be the case. it will be around for a long time in one form or another.

I do, however, seriously hope that it does not become the default control scheme for the majority of games. I know that I'm not the only one who feels this way.

So put me down as unsure. Not unsure that motion control is here to stay, but unsure that motion control will replace conventional controls altogether.

There will always be a controller in people's hands. I don't think motion control can simulate everything done in games well. Even if it could, I would still want some sort of controller. I prefer a mix of motion and controller: something like using a 360 controller and then Natal for specialized parts of games.

I don't mind if motion control stays, as long as I have my beloved controller in my hands playing an FPS the way you should, I'm a happy Gamer.

I'd have to say it is a Fad. You can only do so much with motion controls and I'm sure the core market of gamers would eventually move away from it. It'll get replaced with the next fad soon enough.

I doubt it--I think it's just Peter Moleyneux overhyping the latest technical innovation. Again.

It really is a fad. They bring in the non-gamers with their easy-of-use, but for core gamers (ie us), we'll always want out conrollers/keyboards+mice. Motion controls don't yet give us the precision we've come to love from conventional controllers.

Call me old fashioned, but I love the controller. It reminds me that I'm playing a game, not living a fantasy world or something like that.

There'll blatantly be a mix. (Should have been an option in the survey imo)I don't see motion control dying away, especially as technology lets it get more detailed but so many games seem better or even only viable with a traditional hands-on controller.

It might happen eventually, but hopefully not in my time; motion controls are good fun and all, but I don't want all of my games to force me to flail around the room like a pscho.

Actually, the ironic thing is that gaming was invented with the idea of being able to control on-screen items or characters with buttons, and now, developers and publishers are so invigorated with innovation to prove that gaming is important and non-brainless, that they're completely forgetting about the whole point of gaming. Saints row 2 was a strange specimen. It had fun all-around, and any frustration was because of your lackl of skill. Oh, and the graphics were TERRIBLE, which shows that either the developers took the idea of gameplay before graphics, or they couldn't be bothered to make better ones. Proabably the former.

You get the idea.

I wonder how people here know what a fad is.

n. A fashion that is taken up with great enthusiasm for a brief period of time; a craze.

Fads don't like 4 years. Well I guess it depends on your definition of brief period of time.

Um, where's the vote option which expresses the most likely truth.

That motion control is here to stay but will never completely eliminate traditional control methods.

Mark Twain didn't invest in the telephone because he thought it was a fad and that it would fail. Now look we all have cell phones. This could very well be the "next" telephone. I mean motion controls I am hoping won't be like they are now but say you put on a VR helmet and gloves and pretend that your holding a gun and just have to hold the "gun" and look around and "pull" the trigger I mean that personally I think would be awesome.

I think both options will co-exist.

Motion controls work well for non-gamers and controllers work well for console gamers.

I do, however, think its unfortunate that Sony and Microsoft are drowning resources in the Natal and Arc(what's it called now? They kept changing it)projects.
