Whoever says that its just a game who cares am I allowed to tell you to go fuck yourself? Because last I checked people get riled up over single WORDS why because of the history behind them. To some people having something based on something real and current can bring up really bad memories about what happened. No matter how tasteful something is it can still be interpreted as something demeaning and hurtful. I mean look at Sarah Palin she THINKS she knows what the hell she is talking about when she says people are infringing on her first amendment rights when the first amendment only says that the GOVERNMENT cannot infringe on the freedom of speech while people can say and do whatever the hell they want barring a worse criminal offense like assault or murder. Also look at the mom that kept books out of a library because she didn't like what was IN the books and she was offended by what the books were and thought they should have a sticker that said adult content even though it was a teenage book. If it is done right I say do it but if its covered up but BLATANTLY obvious of who it actually is (I am looking at you MW) then I find that more offensive than a game open about what it is actually about. If it is done correctly then Awesome good for the developers for making a great game on a touchy subject. Same can be said about all of the WW2 games because there are STILL people alive that survived the holocaust and still people who refuse to acknowledge the horrors that happened.

I see no problem with it. If films, books and TV series are allowed to be made based on current conflicts, then there's no logical reason why videogames shouldn't be either, assuming they remain tasteful and accurate.
I'm in for tasteless exploitation, making a buck off the fact that something horrible happening is a hot topic is certainly "fair play" where commercialism is concerned, and I'm not so ready to stomp on free speech as to say they shouldn't be allowed to make them. The movies books and tv shows get filed under the same category. They're all cheap explotations of a topic instead of creating your own setting for your game/movie... etc.

On a somewhat side note depictions of real world conflicts hardly mantain thier accuracy in the journalistic media, much less the media that is marketed specifically as entertainment(not to be confused with your political agenda news networks which are entertainment marketed as news). The reality of international conflict is generally quite complex, with dirty dealings in, and between the parties concerned. I think starcrafts story about the Terran Confederacy/Dominion is a far more accurate analogue to real world conflict and politics than any game about WW2 has ever come, and that's sad on multiple levels.

You stole pretty much everything I was going to say, and said it so eloquently.

Films? Check. Books? Check. I see no problem with it, just more gameplay for me!

All I got out of what you'd written was that you were complaining about people getting riled up over stupid things... when you were doing just that? Or am I wrong?

It really is just a game... people shouldnt shit a brick over such trivial things. If someone who looked exactly like Mr. Monopoly got shot right in the monocle would they ban monopoly? No, because that would be ridiculous and that goes for gaming too... playing as a member of a terrorist group in a game isnt filling you with their ideals or signing you up either.

I cant understand why people who yell "omg-its just a game" expect critics to accept games as "art". Grow up folks and make your decision: Just mindless fun to entertain or something that should be taken serious by the public.
