I would love to work in the video game department. Unfortunately, several people on this very website were "kind" enough to bring my hopes crashing down by point out that I don't have a chance at it. Not giving up though.

I've already seen and heard enough from The Escapist alone to make me lose all interest in working for an existing game developer. I already have a friggin' awesome position doing various software odd-jobs for a local consumer electronics company - the pay is about the same as game industry programming, but I rarely need to work overtime, everyone here loves me (including the CEO - it's a fairly small company), and the work I do is both as nifty as making a game and far more varied, so it always keeps me interested. I have my random game ideas of course, and if I ever get off my lazy ass I might just do some indie development, but I otherwise have no desire to work in an industry that's become rather notorious for poor working conditions and lack of job security.

Would love to, but I probably won't be able to, so I'll just stick to my computer programmer idea instead.

If I have spare time than I would probably work on a game as a hobby. That might be fun.

Ι have the mechanics of a game and story worked out (on paper) but since I am in Romania and studying Pharmacy, nothing is ever gonna happen. I would like to see 'Pickpocket' see the light of day though. I do not even know where to begin, so...

I don't know, part of me says 'yes,' but another part of me looks at all the unreasonable, self-entitled whining that goes on (here on the escapist mostly) and thinks "Do I really want do subject myself to this?" This is esp. a concern considering that I don't take criticism well anyway.

I'd love to, but at the end of the day the choice is between a larger income and possibly more disposable income to spend on games or making games. Plus, making games could possibly make it less fun, by turning it into a job instead of a hobby.

Meh. I certainly wouldn't mind the job at all, it would be great and if the opportunity jumped out in front of me, I would take it. But for now I have other plans

I think I would do better in a creative/writing capacity, if the thousands of megs worth of half-finished NWN, Unlimited Adventures, and 90s FPS modules/levels have anything to say about my patience with the coding and worldbuilding side of things.

It what I want to go to school for after I graduate high school. Although, technically, I already work in the industry. I'm an intern with Sports Mogul Inc. and have been working on the newest Baseball Mogul game with them that will be released in March.

I don't particularly want to have a job in the industry, but I do like to make games with whatever free software I can.

To me, as long as im making a decent living (50k is more than decent) i will be fine. im currently working for a computer information systems degree and a 3d animation and game development degree with computer science and VCD minors. i wanna end up doing something i enjoy, i dont wanna be stuck in a crappy job that i hate doing.

Absolutely not as they're very under paid, over worked and now often are the target for much anger.

I mean like iPhone apps & stuff like that.

Not the next Fallout or anything.

You kind of skipped over the option for 'I already do', so I've been forced to select 'Other'.

However, it is something that I dreamed about for years before actually sitting down and doing it, so I suppose that that counts too.
