Unfortunately I will not miss the barrens, yes the Barren was kind of a rite of passage for most horde characters because it was the first introduction as to how absurd the internet/wow population can get when gather en mass. I don't know if it is just my odd luck or not, but being on my last class grinding to 80 I noticed that the barrens have gotten emptier and emptier (more barren if you want to use a pun) from vanilla -> bc -> wrath. I mostly think this is due to the fact that Blood elves' second and third zone are much better in terms of questing and loot leaving a good chunk of the Barrens to go to the Ghostlands. That and the introduction of the "LFG" system means people can be sitting almost anywhere and just chain instances instead of having to sit in the barrens waiting for people to "/1 LFG WC" which may or maynot be a catalyst to start people chatting in the barrens.
That said the Barren's chat will just be another wow meme that has fall to the wayside as the game progressed, just as "more dots, Leeroy Jenkins, etc" are barely known by a good chunk of the WoW populace. Sure some people stumble upon them, but when is the last time you've actually heard those people refer to those in game? Heck I don't even hear "You are not prepared!" anymore and that wasn't that long ago.

there not removing barrens its just being changed a lot and not all of it is being damaged or destroyed. Also it being destroyed doesn't mean it wont be playable we will just see some lava and damaged areas that's all.
also you will never get chuck norris out of barrens chat. If anything this will only strengthen it with increase number of players going there now.

Yes, I'm going to miss the Barrens (as they are and have been). I've levelled numerous trolls, tauren and even the odd orc through there, and I'm going to miss assassinating centaur leaders, decimating the local wildlife and even running all over the Barrens for that stupid samophlange.

my problem with Barrens is that the zone is to big for players that don't have mounts yet. it takes forever to get anywhere.
also it's location makes it easy for alliance to attack cross roads. constantly killing off the quest givers and the flight master makes leveling there a pain.
