I still don't find blu-ray to be relevant, so take that as you will.

Made the jump to HDTV's almost immediately though and never looked back. It make a huge difference for me at least. However, this may be due to the hardware's allotted physical space.

I cant stand 3D
I still get headaches with the new stuff
I found avatar insultingly bland (other than the general, he was so awful that every scene with him was just pure gold)

3D just comes off to me as an excuse to make worse products
Would your favorite game or movie be improved in 3D? of course not
Will they charge you extra for a game or movie if it can be viewed in 3D? You bet your ass

Again, neither. It will be an interesting sub-genre. Kind of like IMax. Cool, but not the primary way to experience your movies/games.

I'll break the mould and say it's not a fad, I think it's in the early stages and wont be perfect for a few more years, however when the ball gets rolling it'll be pretty damn good.

People who haven't tried 3D games just don't understand it. If Wipeout looked that good I can't even imagine Killzone 3 in 3D. Play a 3D game before calling it a fad. >.<

I'm still calling fad, but I want to see the 3DS before I make a complete judgement.

I think that's it the next big thing (maybe not a big as HD), but people are going crazy for it...

I don't really like how the poll is so narrow, but give the technology a few more years and I believe that 3D is the next logical step for entertainment. I was about to write it off as a fad too, but I finally broke down and saw Toy Story 3 in 3D, and although their usage was subtle, I enjoyed the sensation of enhanced depth. Plus, if you chuck the glasses like Nintendo is doing, you remove the whole discomfort of glasses over glasses or ill-fitting accessories. Who knows if it'll pan out for environments like a theatre, but glasses-free 3D just might become the future of home entertainment.

What is up with those polls lately?

Shouldn't the Escapist know better as just to give us two extreme answers?

How about:

It is not the next big thing but it is no fad either.

Or:

As long as it requires glasses it's a fad.

Or All the manufacturers want is to sell new tech for a high price as fast as possible, wich is stupid cause most people even have really jumped up to HDTV's.
The only (from the view of a company understandable but for customers stupid) reason that 3D gets so blown up cause for the companys it is not enough that people just got HDTVs.

They want to sell more, that is why they want that everyone should buy 3dTVs, a tech that i doubt is in its final version, now and under any price.

In my eyes, 3D is the next big fade. It'll be around for 4-6 years and then will ultimately die because people won't care about it anymore.

It's something to be used only where appropriate, not crowbarred in to everything. I think it should stay on the big screen, and be totally optional for all films. It's too fallible to become standard.

I enjoyed the 3D in Avatar, but that's because Avatar was made for 3D. Putting it into everything is just a recipe for failure.
That's how I feel about Motion Controllers.

Anyway, I want it to be a fad, but the 3DS will probably make sure it grows and stays put for at least 5 years or so in games.

It just doesn't do enough to be the next big thing. It doesn't improve the experience of watching or playing anything enough to be the next big thing. Hopefully, it'll just find the niche where it works well and stay there.

I don't know, it just seems like too much all at once. It's bound to burn out sooner than expected...at least I hope so. Maybe it's just me, but this whole 3D thing popping up everywhere is just so gimmicky and annoying. Back when Imax theaters started showing 3D films for the first with those crystal clear glasses, those moments were very precious. But now we're seeing tons and tons of crappy films and games coming out just to promote this stupid FAD!

3D needs a new name. When people say 3D I'm still thinking, you know, games that take place in three virtual dimensions (as opposed to side-scrollers or top-down games, which are 2D)
