The games I buy for my XBox are never available for digital download on the day of their release. Sure, I could wait @ a year to download them, but really waiting?....

Hard Copy. I just don't like the idea that I might not be able to use what I've paid for at some point due to the whims of others. Then yes, with ISPs looking more and more at capping bandwidth I'm relucatant to think of downloading everything I might enjoy.

I love having a hard copy of the game, it gives you a sense of entitlement. You actually having something in your hand for the $100+ you just spent on it.[Price of games in my bloody country].

Normally I'd prefer a hardcopy, but they arent very reliable lately, like my Bioshock CD. It wont install anymore. Plus, I dont have enough room in my apartment to store 50+ games anymore, so downloadable games on STEAM is much easier.

If I were to buy a game at the store:
Drive to Gamestop
Pay $X and drive home with new game
Sit at computer for several hours waiting for it to install

If I were to buy a digital copy:
Give Paypal number
Sit at computer for several hours waiting for it to install.

I just saved myself 20 minutes and gas money by going digital.

It's a tough choice, but ultimately I prefer the downloads because I have no chance of losing the CD Key, manual, scratching the disc, losing a disc, etc.

Always with the hard copy. I like my games collection... and it wouldn't really be a collection if it was all downloaded. I do have some digitally-distributed PC games, but only those that are hard or impossible to get a hard copy of (except for Fallout 3, which I won in a competition).

That said: I used to feel exactly the same about CDs - I have over a thousand at home but it became completely impractical to have that much stuff laying around when I went to university. I soon got an iPod to replace my old music player, so started buying from iTunes rather than physical copies. Maybe I'll eventually go the same way with games if there comes a time when there's a well-stocked digital distribution system for Xbox 360 - the current Games on Demand thing is... well, a token effort at best. Of course, price is also a factor.

It would really depend on the game itself.
If other than the plastic DVD case and a two page manual, there is actually something worthwhile in the box, then yeas, a physical version is preferred.
If not, as in if it's every game in the past 7 years, then digital.

I prefer downloading games, because Steam is convenient and there's no risk of losing the disk.

I like to collect the boxes and disks so I can pile them up and cackle repeatedly about how my plans are going perfectly.

Also, I have slow intarwebz so it's easier to install off a DVD.

I read them while I'm installing.... And some then...

OT:
I like hard copies, because i like being able to eventually return the game for credit, and you can feel where your money went.

I don't mind excessively whether I get a hard copy or not - it's been years since manuals were worth reading (homeworld, we hardly knew ye) but hard copies don't need to download 7-20gb worth of data before you can play them - so it's a little inconvenient for me to -get- the hard copy, but it's a lot more convenient once I have it. Out of preference then I voted I like a hard copy, but it's not too big a deal either way, and the faster internet connections get, the less of an issue it'll be for me.

I always like tangible proof that I actually bought something. I like discs, I like boxes, I like manuals. That way no one can mess with my purchases but me.

I like hard copies, mostly because I have a shelf dedicated to my games and I want to see it full. :D
