Personally I think its either Tifa from FFVII or Tifa from Crisis Core or maybe Tifa from Dirge of Cerberus.

On the reverse spectrum, Meryl. She keeps her trousers off as she has a casual conversation about what she wants to do during the mission. Plus the constant flirting and question asking. Most of which Snake will coldly answer with "No." She isn't being subtle.

Chell. She murdered the companion cube... and it had a heart on it... and I guess melting is like it's breaking...
This was a tough one. I mean, female characters tend to be written and acted in a pretty terrible manner. Samus Aran and Chell both never speak and they're doing just fine. Which is great, I mean judge them by their actions by all means, but it says something you know?
Also, I voted other. I can think of a 5 female characters I'd take over anyone on that list

Ashley Williams OR Liara (Let's count them as one for now)

Saria (Hope I spelt that right, green-chick from OoT? )
And for those who aren't interested in characters that are well-written and emotionally involving, the best sex symbol you guys could come up with was Lara Croft? I mean, really, NO one is empathic to that character. She's a heartless sociopath with absolutely horrid dialogue and stupid motivations. If she has smaller breasts (or been made 10 years later) no one would put up with her. In fact, her status as a sex symbol still pisses me off. Tits and humanity are not necessarily mutually exclusive. If you're not going to take character development into account just use Cammy from Street Fighter: she's british, she's hot and she has absolutely no personality. It's just like Lara Croft only more direct.
