Jesus Christ, whoever makes these polls forgets the most obvious of choices all the fucking time.

Peter Jackson, of course.

And pollmaker(s), think your stuff through before you post it.

I don't like any of those choices. I think the last Burton film that didn't have me sighing "I get it already. You're quirky." was Big Fish. He just wants us to know we're watching a Tim Burton movie. Besides, he would probably cast Depp as Gandalf and his wife as... Thorin or somebody.
Cameron and Spielburg seem way too focused on spectacle rather than telling a competent story these days. Anderson and Lynch are just gag options. Admit it.
If we absolutely can not wait for Jackson to be available, then I second Furburt.

Also, Terry Gilliam would not go amiss either.
Of course, the project would be doomed in one way or another. Poor Terry can't catch a break.

I suppose Speilberg is a decent choice, at the very least we get a rousing D-day re-enactment with hobbits.

Jesus Christ, whoever writes answers to these polls lamenting the lack of an option clearly already discounted in the poll text forgets the most obvious step of reading the text all the fucking time.

Darren Aronofsky, of course.

And hasty-I-won't-read-the-text-that's-in-front-of-me poll-replyer(s), think your stuff through before you post it.

peter jackson? it only makes sense.
Gotta read the question guys :)

Ill go with Cameron. Spielberg has way of....changing things that I don't approve of. (Not that I don't like his films, I do.)
Oh, I did read the question, just clone the man.

Michael Bay.

Kidding, kidding. Relax.

I'd say Peter Jackson. He did a good job with the Lord of the Rings trilogy, so I deem it fitting that he'd direct The Hobbit as well.

Peter Jackson.

I mean, you saw the job he did on Fellowship of the Ring, Two Towers and Return of the King, what makes you think he wouldn't do the same thing for The Hobbit?

Nobody but Jackson. I mean, lots of people didn't think it was possible to even try making a LotR movie. Seriously, people were saying in the 80s (from what I've heard) "oh, yeah, it would be fun, but the movie would have to last 10 hours at least, be played by thousands of actors, man, it would be too hard!!".

I would like you, sir, to bump my fist as a sign of agreement and respect for this statement. Thank you.

David Lynch might be the most insanely brilliant idea ever.

Spielberg or Cameron. Either of them should make greati deas for it, whilst not going too far rom the original settings

Keep Tim Burton Away from it!!! Whatever happens...
For one reason I doubt anyone wants to see Bilbo Baggins played by Johnny Depp.

Really though, Peter Jackson is the only one who should do it. His Lord of the Rings trillogy is one of the best series in modern cinema. No arguements, not from me, or anyone else with half a brain.

Out of the options though... I'd say Steven Spielburg, He'd probably work with Peter Jackson a lot and It would turn out pretty well. Cameron on the other hand would probably take it his own way. Although David Lynch might do a good job too if his other films are as good as The Elephant Man (only film of his I've seen and its one of my favourites).
Although whoever does it, they shouldn't make it too big and epic, not like LOTR, Thats another reason I don't think a big director like Cameron should do it.

I'd like to see Spielburg do it. He'd probably do the best job.

I agree, as long as he stays away from the screenplay and only directs. "The Fountian" would have been spectacular if a talented writer would have handed it off to Aronofsky.

Micheal Bay

Because all the Hobbit needs to be a true masterpiece is napalm, lot's and lot's of napalm.
