Well, Peter Jackson is the only person I'd really want to direct the movie. If not him, I don't really care at all.

I'm thinking terry gilliam, it wouldn't quite be the hobbit but I'm sure it would be an interesting movie.

Peter Jackson, who thought up this poll and didn't put him in it...
Now that Guillermo Del Toro has stepped down, it seems that Peter Jackson might be directing The Hobbit after all. If it's not him, who would you like to see direct The Hobbit?

Peter Jackson all the way, he's proven himself to be a good interpreter of Tolkien's work

Definately not Tim Burton, The Hobbit does not need Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, or music by Danny Elfman (all of them are good at what they do, just keep them away from Tolkien).

I think this video sums up Mr Burtons more recent movies...

I'd be happy with Peter Jackson.

Like others have said, the related trilogy was his, and he did an AMAZING job with it.

I mean, all three were deserving of Best Picture. They only didn't give the first two the nod because it would defeat the point of putting out a good movie during either of those years because the Oscar would be no surprise.

Worst poll options ever.

I'd rather have Jackson do it. He respects the series and has a sort of style with the films. If its not him whoever directs it would probably turn it into some summer blockbuster crazy overbudget movie that sucks balls.

How about somebody relatively no name but that does good periodesque pieces? Like Joseph Wright?

John Carpenter, I can already feel the dread of Moria.

Whoever directed lord of the rings should.
That would be Peter Jackson and I agree with you. But the question was specifically who you'd choose if Jackson wouldn't do it? Who's your second choice?

For fucks sake! Why don't people take the time to READ the 1st post?

My vote goes to Zack Snyder by the way. He could make it cool.

Also, Terry Gilliam would not go amiss either.
Brazil and Time Bandits were truly awesome, but I didn't like his latest film (The Imaginarium of Dr.Parnassus) at all. I'm not so sure about Gilliam.

OP: I'll have to go with Peter Jackson, or David Lynch for the lulz.

Werner Herzog.

"I see The Hobbit as symbol of man's doomed struggle with a natural world implacably hostile to his dreams of autarchic agency..." etc.

Tharwen? Thankyou.

AkJay and Dioxide20? Seriously, read the book.

The character is named Gollum for the nervous swallowing sound he makes.

A golem is:
1. Jewish Folklore. a figure artificially constructed in the form of a human being and endowed with life.
2. a stupid and clumsy person; blockhead.
3. an automaton.
