Cell-phone, definitely.
Outdoors is good and all, but here's the deal - if those guys insist on getting lost in the forest without any fucking means of contacting anyone, well, I can leave them there and get out myself.

Well I managed 5 weeks camping in Italy with no computers or an internet connection.
I had my phone but thats cause I was abroad and its kind of an essential thing to have.
But yeah, 5 weeks with no internet. I was fine. My various email accounts weren't.

I always have my cell phone/ipod... Unless I was driving there, I would probably bring my PSP for the ride...

Back when I had my GBA:SP, I brought it on every trip. I wouldn't use it much but it came in handy many, many times in my journeys. My various MP3 players over the years were a must as well.

I'd take my mobile phone, since it's useful to have in an emergency and it has a good digital camera and GPS on it, but I would keep it switched off to conserve battery power and only use it if I needed to.

Also I wouldn't smuggle it, I'd openly defy their "forbiddening".

However I might respect their wishes and not use it to phone for help if any of them get into trouble, like if they broke a leg or fell down a ravine. I'd let them try to build a fire and send smoke signals to the Mountain Rescue services, but if I personally was in trouble, then I'd phone for help straight away.

Also if I was going on a camping trip in the great outdoors, and some Luddite tried to forbid me bringing a digital camera because it's technology, then I'd just ignore their stupid ways, since I'm a keen photographer and it's important for me to be able to take pictures of nature as it catches my eye.

Practical me: Cell Phone... Hell if one of us gets mauled by a bear or bitten by a rabid squirell I wanna be able to freakin call an ambulance.

I would definitely bring my cellphone, though it would be shut off until I needed it, as it's always important to have a line of communication for emergencies and if my friend would not be able to see that then he would be stupid as fuck...

The outdoors is the best escape from the everyday grind, a change of pace, relaxation. I leave everything behind when I camp. If I'm in trouble there are pleanty of ways to signal from crown land. And there is no cell service where I camp. I do however bring a gps unit. A sextant, the only non-electronic counterpart is much to expensive and rare to warrent the cost. The Etrex Venturer rules (I've had one since 2002).

None, but at most I would bring a cell phone for emergencies. I've gone camping before, and tech would sort of ruin the feel. Also, dropping my laptop into a lake would cause me to rage like no man has ever seen.

Cell phone? That's probably the LAST thing I'd want to bring on a camping trip, not that it would probably work anyway. I'm honestly fine leaving technology behind, but I'll definitely take a DS to my grandparents' place, which is similar to camping.

I'd be fine with being tech-free for a while. But, if I did try to take anything, it'd definitely be my PSP.

The only thing that I bring to camping trips the is technological is my Ipod.I can't live without it.

If I could get away with it, I would take my DS AND my cell phone, but since I'm only allowed one choice, I'd say cell phone, since it's stupid to go out into the woods without one if you have it.
