People know better than to take me camping. If my feet and snoring doesn't stop them, my relentless trivia will get me sent home as soon as possible. ;)

I would never go in the first place, and would be dearly disappointed in any "friends" that would force me to.
But if for some reason I did go-probably due to some strange alien creature temporarily taking control of my body- I would bring the Cellphone, for safety reasons.

Well, considering I've been forced to be tech free by a while anyway by circumstances beyond my control (and just in the past 7 weeks have had a computer available, after 7.5 entirely tech free weeks), I think a camping trip would be a welcome change. No gadgets necessary.

If you're camping CORRECTLY, you're somewhere where phones get no signal.
There is always a mobile signal in Estonia.
ALWAYS.

where the hell is the "I don't camp" option :(

I am fine without tech though... I have gone 5 or 6 weeks. I tend to read a lot in those spans.

I think more people smuggle cell phones than are willing to admit. If not for games, then for safety. I know I'd never go hiking or camping without a cell phone!

Phone because I have an iPhone and it also is my IPod. Can't leave home without that. (it has 26 Bleach episodes, 5 supernatural episodes, and 3 ghost hunters. with over 500 songs, and 40 podcast.)

Taking a cell/satellite phone is just common sense. As long as you don't use it unless it's an emergency, I don't see it as a technological intrusion.

Nothing about camping appeals to me at all and I've always told people if they ever hear me say I'm "going camping" that it's code for "I'm currently homeless and living under the overpass".

So, thus, the "tech" would be a home or apartment. I don't get camping, I have a mortgage now and for years before, apartment rent. Why would I pay to live indoors then choose to stay outdoors? I just don't get the appeal.

Plus, all of the things on the list require power that would run out then the device would just taunt you. Taunt you like the Blair Witch [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blair_witch]. Yeah, those kids were "camping" too. And then there's Camp Crystal Lake [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_the_13th_(franchise)]. See? Nothing good can come from camping.

PSP. I've misplaced my DS and subsequently my copy of SoulSilver. Sad days.

Mobile to keep in contact with the outside world and thats it. After all, if you have electricity, your not camping properly. Or you have a generator with you, that works too.

Where's the option to stay home?
Or if that's not allowed, I'm with anyone that's suggested iPods/MP3 Players.
Which also isn't on the list.

I need to know more. For example, how long's the camping trip? (Will any of the stuff need to be charged half-way through, which of course is not an option)
And do I enjoy conversations with these mysterious 'outdoorsy friends' of mine? (Do I need an iPod to drown them out?)
How did I befriend 'outdoorsy' people? (And if the answer to the last question was no, why am I friends with 'outdoorsy' people who I don't enjoy conversations with?)
Can I take a wireless dongle with me if I choose the laptop, and will it get any reception in the location we're going camping?

If I had to choose, it'd probably be the phone. Unless I can get wireless reception with the laptop. (Though if the phone could get reception, I imagine the laptop could too? And my phone actually sucks, so...)

New question:
Can I buy a new phone before I'm forced to go on a camping trip with people claiming to be my 'outdoorsy' friends.

Mobile, if only for emergencies.
...Not that I couldn't go tech-free for a while or anything.

Who honestly brings a portable video game to a camping trip? I can almost hear the argument:

"You said I needed to be outside more. Well, here I am."
