I love F.E.A.R (the first, sequel is boring), very fun combat, very good horror. (the only one so far that managed to get my imagination to work against me) One of my favorite games.

I dont think Resident Evil: Revelations will be that scary at all. I mean, just look at how scary the RE series is. It isnt. But..the controls, combat, and cameras are often horrible, does it count?

The only games that ever got close to that level of fear for me were "System Shock 2" and "Clive Barker's Undying." Not even "F.E.A.R." or "Dead Space" have been able to reach that level of dread, no matter how much brown and damage decals they put in.

When I was 6 or 7 I played Hexen on the Sega Megadrive (genesis). Couldn't finish it.

4 years later I had completed all of the resident evils to that point and silent hill 1.

Last game to spook me was Amnesia which was only released recently, but even then it was more adrenaline pumping fear and not something that was unplayable.

doom 3, resi 4, and F.E.A.R for me, but I don't play a lot of horror type games. Yet, I should go back and finish doom 3 and resi 4 cause I was able to get through bioshock.

You hit on something there Twad. I personally think the controls of the early resident evil games actually added to the horror, simply because it felt like a bad dream where shit didn't respond as fast as I wanted... I did an essay on horror in games a few years ago and I brought up the notion of physical limitations within the game adding (or detracting) from the horror.

Who now big daddy protector Boss Nintendo...

Don't start that... you already don't release RPG cause non japanese are to stupid to understand it.

We don't need you saying we can't have action/survival games now because we aren't "your people" so we now need to be spoon fed barbies horse adventure clones for the next 30 years...

Just release the damn games...we'll play them. Who cares if no one finishes it...they bought it...all the matters.

When I get scared, it just gives me more reason to finish the game. I love it when that happens!

Nope, which is strange because I seem to be friends with a bunch of people who found Bioshock too scary to play. Personally, it was a nice game and it did have it's moments, but it was far form too scary.

Nope, never really been an issue. Have games creeped me out? Yeah (Cherubs from Doom 3 spring to mind). Have games given me a shock? Yeah (grabbing the first shotgun in Bioshock). Has a game truly scared me? Never. And even if one had, I can't imagine how it could ever get to the point where I'd turn the game off.

I've never not finished a game because of fear, but I had to put Thief: Deadly Shadows away for a month before daring to return to the level 'Robbing the Cradle'. Other games might prolong fear and scares throughout a whole game, but that level is the single most intensely terrifying part of a game I've ever played.
And I've just bought the complete Thief collection so I can do it all again!

I've never not finished a game because it was scary or freaky. I have, however, had to step away from some for a few hours or days to get over the emotional factor.

Nope. I just turn the volume down, turn on the lights, and make my sister stay in my room with me. Hell, Half-Life made me throw up and I still soldiered through it.

There is absolutely no basis for your statement on how japan views the west. Being conservative with their products is a well known cultural aspect of the Japanese, this includes games too. Not to mention, there are plenty of games that japan have released (which were successful there) that bombed in the states and in europe. So being reluctant to open their market to the west is understandable.

There's a handful of games that scared me too much to finish them when I was much younger, but none of them were ever on a portable system.

One of these I still remember is the expansion to the first Jedi Knight game, Mysteries of the Sith, due to Dianogas, Rancors and Noghri. While most people will recognize the first two, the Noghri are an extremely nimble and strong race of yeti-looking aliens capable of teleport-leaping directly in front of you and knifing you at any time. Sort of like the Star Wars version of Rogues, except they're hideous to look at up close.

YAWWNNNNNN
My gaming goes back to the 80's, and yeah they basicly said that around 89 with a slew of Nintendo games. So it's experience, no basis? HA... do homework on the video game market sometime. No I was never military and visited the place...never...no idea how they see us at all.

Now shoo shoo...go pretend like you know someone else personally.

Yes but mostly because I'm not having fun if I'm constantly being scared.

It depends on the scares of course...I can stand games like Amnesia, I was able to finish Bioshock easily, Resident Evil 2 was kinda creepy but I got through it.

But when games are just throwing cheap scares at you like F.E.A.R 2 then I don't bother playing.

I managed to make it through Silent Hill 2 just fine. Silent Hill 3 on the other hand...

That game has the most oppressive atmosphere I've ever encountered in a game.

Me being scared doesn't make me quit, it just wastes huge amounts of ammunition. My reaction to being creeped out is to rest my finger on the trigger, and when I can't take the suspense anymore I open fire on suspicious looking shadows...it makes me feel better in the end.
