Yes, while they may not be "real" in this world, they do exist for those that believe in them. Deep enough for ya?

Not really. At least not in the cliches that exist today.

Though I am open to some sort of spiritual presence after death, if I'm provided with reasonable arguements or proof.

My sister's car is supposedly haunted (confirmed by multiple sources), as was a store she worked at (confirmed by her coworkers), and the Spaghetti Warehouse downtown (confirmed by the Internet and many others).

I'll believe it when I see it.
Maybe it's just your sister who's haunted?

Oh my, no.

If they actually were real, why be so damn mysterious about it.
If I was dead, and a ghost, and I somehow had to point out my killer, I wouldn't toss random things on the scissors he used to cut the lining out of his mask.

I'd grap a marker and write "Hello, I am Ranorak. I can proof this by . I was killed by ."

If ghosts were real, why are they hiding? Why are they only coming out at night, with only one witness?

It depends on what you define as "ghosts." The OED (Oxford English Dictionary) states the following (amongst many other definitions):

1. The soul or spirit, as the principle of life [...]
3.a. The spirit, or immaterial part of man, as distinct from the body or material part; the seat of feeling, thought, and moral action. Also, in New Testament language, the spirit or higher moral nature of man; opposed to flesh. [...]
5.a. An incorporeal being; a spirit. [...]
7. The soul of a deceased person, spoken of as inhabiting the unseen world.
8.a. The soul of a deceased person, spoken of as appearing in a visible form, or otherwise manifesting its presence, to the living. (Now the prevailing sense.)

Personally, whilst I find it difficult to believe a "ghost" manifests as a being with cognitive faculties, "immaterial part of man" from definition three seems plausible.

I was watching a television program some years back, one of those Halloween "send people into ancient castles that are supposed to be haunted" bits. A person claiming to be a paranormal investigator or reader or something of that nature stated, basically, that ghosts weren't necessarily spiritual beings that interacted with their surroundings because of some sort of awareness, but imprints left behind by some extreme emotive behavior immediately prior to death. So, if a person was tortured and died at that scene, his residual energy would be maintained in such a way that people who ended up in the same environment would experience, in some way, that feeling.

So, do I believe in spirits that will lick and slime me, or ones that are friendly, pale children who only want companionship? I'm agnostic but leaning on the side of "no." However, I wouldn't put it past nature to allow for the above explanation.
Other than being agnostic (am Pantheist), I completely agree. I voted "I am not sure", do to definition problems.

I'm tempted to say no, they don't exist, but I don't want any Fatal Frame ghosty paying me a visit tonight and prove me otherwise... *grabs camera and heads for the bunker*

I put down "Not sure", although I don't actually believe in ghosts. The reason I didn't put down "no, they aren't real" is because I don't believe in the convential view of ghosts, but I once had a "ghost theory" which I think of less, but I have neither proved nor discounted.

My theory was that we as humans produce energy constantly, and upon death energy production stops (this part isn't a theory obviously, but it leads into the theory). My theory goes into the idea of if we stop producing energy, what happens to it? Thermal energy as we know can leave our body, so what about electrical energy? Does it just stay in the corpse or does it too leave the body once a person dies? I believe(d) that the energy would leave the body. My theory thus started from this standpoint, and further devulged into the fact that in moments of fear or when our adrenaline is high we produce more energy, just so our body can go on long enough to get out of the situation and survive. Thus, my theory went into the idea that a person killed in such a circumstance would release more electrical energy than in other cases, as more electrical energy was produced. And that was what I believed a ghost was, a large mass of electrical energy that had formed from the dead. The reason such phenomonon exists behind ghosts thus is the idea that being in the pressence of such large masses of electrical energy can confuse or affect our senses so that we tend to hear or see wierd things happening, when really it is just our sense going haywire, and it would also explain why "ghost tracking equipment" picks up the things it does, because all it's doing is picking up large masses of electrical energy.

Again, this was only a theory I had (and not a well thought out one on reflection), but I still believe some of what's said. So when I put down "Not sure", I don't mean I don't know if ghosts exist (as I believe they don't), but rather I mean I'm not sure if MY DEFINITION of a ghost is real.

The day I start believing in ghosts is the same day a ghost slaps me across the face and says "Hey, I'm real, ok?!"

Oh, wait...

lol, entirely possible I suppose (assuming the veracity of the existence of ghosts and what have you).

I do not have any strong opinion on the matter. I know that there is no solid evidence for the existence of the things, but I have not seen conclusive evidence to the contrary either. Common sense may tell one otherwise, but I feel that even the seemingly impossible could well exist- and it would be presumptuous of us to assume anything, with our limited knowledge.

Not really, no. Haven't seen any real need to believe in them yet. Although, I like the idea of them.

I'd prefer not to dismiss the possibility.

However, I do feel that most people who claim to have one haunting them are crackpots looking to get famous on par to the "zomg Jesus' face is on my toast" people.

From where I'm from, we don't joke about this kinda stuff.

Spirits or apparitions are not the only things there is.

It was this one night when me and my friend rode a motorcycle back home. Suddenly, he stopped. He did not say a word. then I saw it. A woman with white overalls andlong hair covering her face sitting on top of a tree. My friend signaled me to shush. We saw it move (as in "flew") to another tree. He switched his headlights off and we slowly rode away from the scene.

True story.
