Can't I vote for all of them?

OT: Mario, but I personally prefer Megaman 2.

I vote Zelda. It is the only music I can think of at any point. Mario and the other I need a reminder on how they start.

Sonic the hedgehog - it's the only one on the list I have played. I also fondly remember Pokemon red's 8-bit renditions.

Everyone knows the first Super Mario theme. My parents have never played any Nintendo games before yet though know of the theme. I even caught my Dad humming it to himself once.

I say Mario just because I use to play a lot of Mario games back when I was a little lad. But will say that the Zelda and Mario theme songs are almost identical in popularity and catchyness.

I can't go as far back as some people can, though the oldest themes I can still remember would be those of Pokemon.

Super Mario, easily. Everyone knows that, even people who know nothing about videogames, or who Mario is.

Though it isn't THAT old-school, Secret of Manas ost will always follow me around. When I played it as a child, I quite literally felt like I'd been taken to some far off world....it and FFIV got me into JRPGs. :p

Super Mario Brothers has multiple themes that most people could identify within the first measure if not within the first couple notes. To me that's pretty damn memorable.

I can't think of any that I really hated though, but that's probably just nostalgia goggles.

With the exception of the Heat Man stage (which I believe also had the weakest tune and barely a melody) I can still hum every Mega Man 2 song, including bosses, final boss, intro AND exit screen, and the wily stage song.
No way, Heat Man's was rockin'! Its weakness is that it's really repetitive--same 30-second riff repeating endlessly with a really short melody line that kicks in for half of it. The other themes mixed things up more. But I love every track from that game, and learned how to play them all on piano as a kid.

I echo several posters: Where's Castlevania? Not only did it have the best music of the 8-bit era (maybe slightly edged out by Megaman 2), the franchise continued to have awesome music well into the current era, Symphony of the Night being the high point, as far as I'm concerned.
