Grief...8 bits started in 1983.

The pioneer, and one of the best artists ever, was the LEGENDARY Rob Hubbard - and there's simply nothing in the list (Including Tetris) that could compare.

Most famous has to be Monty on the Run

If we're going on pure 8 bit processing, Psygnosis's Shadow of The Beast kicks any console tunes to pieces.

But if we have to go with a console...Nintendo's Rock and Roll Racing.
although Zombies Ate My Neighbours comes close.

Sonic!?
Chemical plant zone!?
Tetris has that one tune, Mario has over-world theme... Sonic has so many classic tunes it's untrue.

WTF? Banjo-Kazooie isn't on the list? This is blasphemy!
I think they're going back a bit further for their definition of 'old-school' than the mid-90s. I'm a big fan of the music in Banjo Kazooie and Tooie, but they're not quite applicable to this poll.

As for me, most memorable would have to be Super Mario Bros. Tetris is a close contender, for sure, but I think it's possible that the Mario music IS in fact more well known.

Favourite, on the other hand, would be Chrono Trigger's amazing soundtrack.

I voted Legend of Zelda, especially Ocarina of Time. Especially the windmill song(the one that makes it rain.) It was stuck in my head for weeks, a good stuck though.

After that would be Super Mario Bros.

The Sonic Mega Drive games easily have some of the best music of the bitwars. My favorites include Green Hill, Oil Ocean, Sky Chase, Angel Island, Ice Cap, Launch Base, Mushroom Hill, Flying Battery, Lava Reef, Sky Sanctuary, Death Egg(S&K), Diamond Dust, Volcano Valley and so on.
