If you're talking about Dunkirk or the Normandy Landing, then they were nothing like what that film showed, and I wouldn't make fun of the Cenotaph or the REAL history.
Overblown Hollywood Tearfests are ripe though.
Still you must be able to see why people would think it a bit tacky or distasteful. Yes it's a hollywood film, yes it probably is overdone in places. Still doesn't change the reality of what you're effectively denigrating.
As I said, I think the idea could be used in many clever situations and could potentially be the source of a good topic thread, but using this film as an example was poor taste. That's all I'm saying in this situation
