dissapointing but hopefully it will bring new people to the franchise without actually diluting the quality... although ive yet to see a game actually accomplish that
CoD 4, New Super Mario Bros. (both of em'), Mega Man 9, Mass Effect 2 and, uhm, others.
I meant with regards to 'dumbing down' (if i didnt, how would franchises ever get fans in the first place if they couldnt ever get fans?)...Cod4, NSMB, and MM9 didnt really dumb down.
And I'd argue on the Mass Effect 2 front, i loved the game but imo it was dumbed down quite alot and in general the game was of a lower standard than the first.
Oh. I thought that maybe you meant that, but I decided to list some games that had attracted new people to various franchises without dumbing down or diluting quality. You know, games that did it the right way.

That said, we shouldn't be afraid of change. But it's obvious when a change to a game is just some executive mandated bullcrap as opposed to something that actually helps the title.
When i said 'dissapointing but hopefully it will bring new people to the franchise without actually diluting the quality.'

The 'it' i was refering to was the changes that are being made, i should have been more clear xD

I hope that these changes do make it more accessible like Cod did, but doesnt actually 'dumb down'... because to dumb down is basically just saying people are too stupid nowadays to play the old hitman games, which is a bit patronising

As a long time fan that article actually makes me half happy, half concerned. The formula was great but the AI needed work as did the trial and error structure.

I love IO as a developer. but WHAT did they release after Square before!?

They managed to fuck up a chase thriller across shanghai with two of the most interesting characters in recent memory going right down the shitter...

consider me terrified that they've gone mental over at IO...

DON'T YOU DARE RUIN MY PRECIOUS HITMAN!

So the Hitman series is ruined because the developers announced that they were going to make the game "more accessible" in ways that are currently unspecified so that they can reach a broader audience and potentially make more money in the long run?

[HEADING=1]FOR SHAME!!![/HEADING]

Seriously, unless if these changes involve changing the gameplay into a twisted hybrid of Tetris, Total War, and Enter the Matrix and turning 47 into a retarded purple splooge donkey, I'm pretty sure we don't have anything to worry about.

The lesson of the day children:

Don't fear or pass judgement on shit you don't fully understand or have any control over.

The constant reference to cinematics really isn't reassuring when you see it's a Square Enix game.

On the one hand it's a good thing that they make it more accesible, because more people will buy the game, and that increases chances of even MORE Hitman games, which is brilliant.

But I really hope they don't dumb it down for good, or make even the hardest difficulty easier than it used to be... The difficulty was the great thing about the Hitman games !

I miss Hitman... I'll go play Bloodmoney now.. or Silent Assassin.

Since Hitman has always been something of an "unusual puzzle game" to me, I'm not entirely bothered. Heck, they could have lock-on aiming and still keep the heart of the gameplay. Just make it so I can still complete a mission with only 1 kill: My target.

Since the Hitman games were one of the first things I played during my transition into PC gaming, I'm definitely a hardcore fan.

I'm not going to say this is a bad thing, this whole dumbing down, because I don't know what the final product's going to be. I'd rather keep my hopes high for a good, improved game, without speculating and just building up a temper :p

I'm just happy there's going to be another one. I'm not going to be so quick to judge it and pull out the "YOU DUMBED IT DOWN" cannon, I'll wait until I've played it, or at least seen some gameplay footage.
Pretty much what I wanted to say, yea! Now I know there's another game coming, I can sleep easy :D

I don't mind there being a new engine. I've always found the engine to be a bit clumsy, especially when it came to shooting.

It's the 'broader audience' bit that bothers me. That's what the movie tried to do. Look how that turned out.

(I admit, I haven't seen it, but I saw explosions and un-silenced weaponry in the trailer. THAT'S NOT AGENT 47.)

Well i'm tired of these people who go on teh webs and complain about shit they dont know about. It's 1 article, 1 poorly written article. There is no gameplay whatsoever, so it might still be a damn good game.

Today I cried a little after reading this interview.

http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/new-game-engine-brings-hitman-absolution-to-the-masses/

Why do they have to go and fuck up one of the best gaming series of all time. I can already see the dumbed down version with quicktime events and fancy animated action scenes... The staying true to "hardcore fans" is probably an option that turns off the "tooltips".

Don't they understand the whole charm of the previous hitman games was the fucking difficulty level and the fact that you had to figure out pretty much everything yourself.... FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
You do realize it might still be really good. Calm down.

Let's not fall victim to the following tropes so early in the game's development cycle:

I personally haven't played any of the Hitman games, but I think this is a bit premature. At least wait until a gameplay video has been released.

No! My worst fear has been realised! Why are they going and changing things!?

Did they not listen to what I was saying a month ago?

I want Hitman: Blood Money a second time with no changes! Hell, I'll be happy even if they stick with the same levels, just change all the textures so we can trick ourselves into thinking it's something new.

They can't soil this chance! Hitman was perfect the 3rd time around (or whatever Blood Money was), no changes! No innovation!
It's all over...

Why... ?

Also, for people arguing that it will still be good, has bringing the game to a "broader audience" ever signified anything good? Usually it means they are going to rip out everything that made the original fun, because for some reason they believe everyone who plays video-games are idiots. This makes the game less fun for everyone. I only know of one exception to this, and even with that one many people would disagree with me.

Are people seriously going off their shit simply because they wanted to make the game more accessible? Cause that's all they said. What? They want to change anything at all? It'sRuined FOREVER! [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RuinedFOREVER]

I want you to stop and think about that for a second. They said the previous Hitman games were too niche. They said they'd like to keep that appeal, just also add to it. This can be a million things we have no idea about, and a ton of people are already jumping up and crying foul.

Seriously people, for all our claims that gamers can be mature, this isn't helping.

I wasn't a fan of playing Hitman, I'll admit it, I sucked at it, but I loved watching my cousin play it, and if they dumb it down too much I'm going to be a sad panda.

What I got from this was that the levels would now be more dynamic* and that they would allow newer players to pick up the game easier. That is, that you would either get tool-tips or better controls. I'm not going to complain about any of this.

*I haven't played Hitman in a few generations but last time I played it, the levels and character movements were practically pre-planned, characters always did the same thing every time if you gave the exact same input. A more dynamic level allows for replayability and some truly nasty scenarios. [Imagine on a replay, you fly through a section that last time was empty. Only for it to suddenly have a character that raises the alarm, forcing you to no longer go silent. Or perhaps, someone walking around the corner who wasn't there last time. Random unpredictable elements will make the game, far, far, harder.]

Just my two-cents.

So, just like Diablo 3, the developers are no longer in control of their own IP, and they must cater to you. 'Else they are considered traitors and unworthy of the very product they make. I love it.

I think it's too early to panic. I played all hitman games and I like the series, but changes aren't always bad. Sure it might turn out to be horrible game, but it also might be a good game or even better than originals (in other words, stop being nostalogia nerd.
