10 years ago games were EVIL BECAUSE THEY WERE MURDER SIMULATORS!

Then they were PERVERTING OUR YOUTH!

Now they are RAPE SIMULATORS PERVERTING OUR YOUTH!

Starting to see a pattern?

Oh and, if you're a gamer and are complaining about this game, you're also a hypocrite. What? Murdering thousands in cold blood is fine and peachy but rape is just out of bounds? Yeah...
OH FFS NOT ANOTHER ONE!!!1elleven!!

its different when its something that actually happens to people every day is made in a game than to imaginary murdering legions of nazis and other various bs. or are you telling us all thats what you do in your spare time. which unless your name is duke nukem is sorely f'ing belive.

pretend violence
or
emotionally scaring/disturbing rape games.

you have to be some kind of sick to want to play it first anyway
maybe you are.

I don't mind hentai games. If that's what you're into, then that's what you're into.

However, I am slightly torn. We allow games that have excessive amounts of violence, we don't shirk away when we see people bludgeoned to death. That being said, I find it interesting that we do become so uncomfortable with rape.

On the other hand, I've seen the product of rape first hand, and the anxieties and eccentricities that it can cause a person to have for the rest of his or her life. I think it's repulsive that people get...let's call it...JOY from this kind of gaming. It's one thing to complete a quest by killing boars or whatever. It's another to get your rocks off from the idea of rape.

I guess it doesn't help that they're wearing short skirts, a sailor/schoolgirl outfit that barely covers the bra (which I doubt they're wearing).. and that they look picture "perfect", as far as anime goes.

The Japanese are seriously weird, but that's hardly news.

It's also interesting to take notice of the moral standards we live in today... while apparently it is entirely acceptable to most gamers to cut human beings (including women) into pieces, shoot their brains away with a shotgun, cut their head off with a sword, etc. "Rape" seems to be something inacceptable.

So it's "okay" to outright kill someone, but "not okay" to rape someone...

This is why I'm glad that I stick with the more kid-friendly stuff...I mean, jumping on a giant turtle who kidnapped your girlfriend isn't as bad as stabbing someone, right?
And no, please don't start a debate on how Mario encourages you to stomp people's heads to death. >>;
You're curb stomping someone to death. Just because it's "cute" it doesn't make it any less violent, in fact it makes it easier for kids to accept. Make your own conclusions.

No it's not. And yes, murder happens every fucking day. What's worst, emotionally scaring events or life ending ones? Would you rather be raped or killed?

I use to live in Japan... A walk through Akiba or a stroll through Den Den Town will show that this isn't even slightly surprising.

I find it ironic, considering sex is such a hugely uncomfortable topic in Japan, and I'd argue that they're far more prude than any Western country. Just, certain repressions have led to, well, stuff like this.

Pretty tasteless. But then again, so is decapitation and profanity-laden dialog and everything the Western world relishes in its games.

I might get this game just so I can judge people's reactions when they see/play it. If they're immediately revolted, they're Good People. If they start getting all into the raping and turn around an hour later - "Oh, you're still here?" - then they are Bad People, and I will kick and swear at them.

Holy balls thats disturbing. Well, just be glad it's a Japanese game and they are all goggle eyed, microscopic nosed cartoon freaks, no doubt with voices like a mouse on helium. At least there is a fair detatchment from reality, so from the above point I would argue that it is 'virtual' sex. Now if it had realistic 'poser' style art, that would be something truly awful as opposed to just goddamn freaky.

This is one of the few situations where I wouldn't blame people to up in about arms about video games. The fact that this game excists at all is pretty desturbing.

Most hentai games = video game version of porn.
This hentai game = video game version of porn that contains rape roleplay.

Where's the problem?

I actually snorted with laughter.
Meh, it's only a game, contrary to popular belief, people can differentiate between games and reality.
Yeah it's sick, but people do have these types of thoughts and games like these help them release in a safe environment instead of on real people.

Has ANYONE on this forum actually played this game? I'm just wondering. Though I have played a few games made by Illusion, I've not played this one. From having played similar games (without the rape aspect) I agree with the many people saying about violent games being similar and that if they're allowed to be sold then why not this.

If anything I think violent games, especially FPSs, are a lot more realistic than this, they're basically a killing simulator where as I wouldn't call H-games like this a sex simulator, the name porn director simulator would be more fitting, they're like a pornographic film that you can control certain aspects of.

Hmm... I'm not entirely suprised, more's the pity. But as there were only two copies (most likely through an insanely obscure provider, not amazon itself), I'm pretty sure that you can't just bash the Japanese games industry for that. Instead, also blame the consumer: for this thing to have been made, there must have been a viable audience for it. It probably didn't even do well, as I have thankfully never even heard of this title. The only reason I can think of to even think about playing this is to see how bad it is, sorta like E.T with badly drawn porn. I dislike hentai on an instinctual level, and simply reading about this rape game crap makes me think higher of the people who make REAL games.

(A note: I dislike hentai and such because it's ridiculous, both in how it's drawn and more importantly how it is written. Uwe Boll, nonwithstanding the fact that he is an evil clown, can write better stuff than these fools. I do like the format of dating sim type games, but the fact that these games are mostly interactive porn clips makes me not play them. And a rape game? Do developers need to hand the bigwigs ways to get even more restrictions placed on mature titles?)

But yeah, why is this politico beating the hate drum without realizing that this game was NEVER INTENDED for sale outside of Japan? The japanese aren't stupid, they know that stuff like this game dosn't fly in the states or Europe. I also think it's a safe bet that there is no English dialouge either.

Long story short: crap game, dumb politico, don't buy it. Nuff' said.

(I do have a cold, so sorry if I sound all evil and stuff... It's the sickness typing.)

Killing people is fine, but surprise sex is suddenly somehow amazingly offensive?

What's with the human race and its priorities?

What I find more interesting is this quote from the review:

"You start with the mother, Yuuko Kiryuu, whose name is apparently the one thing I always have the pieces to spell when I play Scrabble."
Ahh. Too true.
There is a massive difference between "surprise sex" and rape. If you cant tell the difference you shouldnt go outside unescorted.

From reading the review this isnt a game for gamers and more an interactive spank mag for those with borderline personality disorders.

Quoting from the Something awful review

"Finally, there is wee Manaka Kiryuu. She looks about ten and you get to rape her in her gigantic bed while teddy bears look on. This was certainly the most disconcerting of the rapes in the game. Not only does she look like a child, not only does her room looks like a child's room, but Manaka visibly cries. If you zoom in on her face you can see tears welling and vibrating in her gigantic eye sockets."

Murder is mentioned as justification for child rape simulators. IN many games you do kill legions of people halo/halflife/COD/HL etc. War and death are accepted in society and part of human history. Thats why the army/airforce/navy are allowed to advertise on TV. Peddlers of child pornography cant.

There is a diferrence between playing something with violent action and playing out fantasy child rape scenes whilst getting aroused.

I would be very interested in a serious, long term study with the goal to determine the effects of games like these. Critics are quick to be appalled and assume that violence and "rape games" have a bad influence and make people more likely to commit transgressions. While that is entirely possible, maybe games like these can also have a "therapeutic" effect. By appeasing the urges of would-be assaulters and rapists in a virtual world, maybe they would commit less crimes in the real world... more or less like administering nicotine gum to people trying to quit smoking.

But of course, there's also the problem of proliferation. Even if some people with criminal urges would profit from the therapeutic effect of games like these, by their mere existance, these games would also find their way into the wrong hands, possibly fostering the message over time, that things like violence and rape are socially acceptable things to do.

I wonder for how long "rape" themed media exists in Japan, and if rape and other sexual offences are more common there than in other parts of the world.
I cant talk stats on JApanese rape figures but many sex offenders start off with fantasies and media of sexual assault they will get it through friends/internet/make their own. (there is no such thing as child porn, its abuse). This desensitises them and makes them want more and more visceral experiences leading to actual child abuse etc. Its not cathartic at all, its fuel.

That depends on the psychology of the person involved. There was a recent study (I read about it in Psychology Today, but I don't own the mag so I don't recall the study) that discussed the idea that problem sexual deviants are obsessives first and deviants second, they just tend to use Deviant Sex as a means of expressing their obsession. Hence yes, a game like this would magnify the problem in an individual obsessed with Rape, it wouldn't be cathartic, it would make them more and more focused on the one thing that gets them off, Rape. However a person with a healthy sexual mindset could "enjoy" fictional "rape porn" and use it as nothing more than fantasy and it would have no major ill effects unless they focused on it so much it became an obsession.

More things can cause this than just games though. However a "normal" person should find such a product as this horrifying, and if you don't... you might have a problem and may need to seek professional help.

Why would this be fun? Wouldn't they close the company and check all the staff for serious mental problems, I mean this is a fucking rape game, there's gotta be something wrong with the company that put effort into making it. If it was just sex then that would be normal, but a rape game is just too creepy.
