I don't see what the big deal is. It's just a game. I told everyone i knew about this and everyone laughed, even the ones that have actually been raped. And you just have to love the Japanese. They have some huge metaphorical balls.

you cant seriously be judging the whole of japan based upon a game? thats the single most stupid thing ive heard all day.
yes i understand that this game is sick. i have a friend that was raped about a year ago.
but your opinion is that of a fool
Well, it's been developed, advertised and approved for publication without anyone stopping or questioning it. So a fairly large number of people have seen it and considered within social norms, which is pretty scary if you think about it.
having been in japan, i know the social structure is over there pretty well. people do not have social stigmas with pornography or fantasies of any kind. and in japan, games like these are exactly that - fantasies.

japan has almost no crime, and even less sex offenders (my theory is because their view on sex is as liberal as it is), and this lets them have games like these. this is far from the only game of this sort; there is an entire industry based on it over there.

it might be scary for you because you've been raised with the stigma of sex and pornography being "bad", but from what i have seen over there, it fits completely naturally in their social behavior.

"They have some huge metaphorical balls."

Not by their standards, and they plain don't physically : P

Wow, that's pretty tasteless. But I do have a sneaky urge (ok, wrong word) to check this out (so to speak) just to see the production values. It surely can't be that well-made...can it?

the game isn't intended for sale or use outside Japan
Because their government (and general populace) is more mature maybe :/. If somebody was already going to do something bad, they either would already have access to games like this or something else would set them off. There's no real reason to ban it from anywhere as long as you don't hand it out to 7 year old kids (but then again there are some adults with that mental age >.>).

Japanese culture. They do, very crazy things and many things that are not the norm.

This is one of them.

Well, the crux of the entire argument is whether gameplay influences behaviour outwardly. At first, I only really noticed it with wrestling games; I used to volunteer at a Youth Club, and watching the kids try to beat the living daylights out of each other after stopping them playing one of the WWF games was both surprising and extremely amusing.

So I can see how some of the lower demographics of the UK might well find an influence from such a game, because (as you probably need both hands to play the game) there's bound to be some build-up of repressed urges. I mean, now that we apparently have "uber-chavs" on our hands, the last thing we need is them forcibly creating another generation of them.

The backlash, however, I feel will be particularly brutal; at least in the UK, if not including Australia and the like.

I hear about this and read how much depth they put into this type of game. And i go past anger and disgust and it boils to straight up laughter. I mean really do you see just how much time and detail they put into this. Really, I am still laughing now.

...These guys don't browse the web much do they? It's an untapped goldmine for them. Why are they hesitating? Tch, why is this news anyway? Yeah this game is sick and twisted, (there are alot of others, mark my words younglings) but the video game industry is now too large and diverse for them to attack it as a whole. And to us they're just the feature of a hilarious aside on Penny Arcade. A social circle joke. A giggle can be pulled from a gamer at the sheer mention of Jack Thompson.

Fueling the fire or not, Japan are known pervs, it's why we love them and accept them into our elite circle of the here and now; 1st World development party. EVERYONE even my Grandmother knows this. So ffs, let them have their romp around the monkey bars while everyone watches with trepidation. We all know all thats going to happen is they'll make it 3 bars and fall flat onto the unfeeling ground below with a sickening and amusing 'crunch'. While we the gaming community chortle and throw small jagged rocks at them. Mocking their attempts and crushing their own self esteem even further down the road of 'sheer waste of space'.

Owning this game would be like having authentic Nazi memorabilia. Just something to say you have but so very weird that you do.

... Japan never ceases to amaze.
Screw that, the human race is doomed. It always amazed me, but now I'm off to mars. Anybody else coming?
Can I have a window seat please?
I call shotgun!

I know this just a game but for some reason it still creeps me out and I don't know why. I don't think porn or hentai are "evil" per say but still, this game creeps me out.

"Rape. It's how you say "hello" in Japan"

(Sorry, TV Tropes's fault)

It was bound to be made sometime. This is sick, that's all I can say...

This is the problem with politicians, desperate to be seen, and to be seen doing something, even if it makes them look idiotic.

This is how Chris Morris, the genuis satirist got MPs to have questions asked in Parliament about 'CAKE' the new killer drug coming in from Eastern Europe, he just went to politicians and asked them to read out a statement explaining and condemning the drug, and pretty soon found one who'd read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory out on camera as fact if it got him on TV.

It's not at all surprising that (and I'm guessing here) a reseller put a copy up on amazon, I can't see Amazon looking at Rapeplay and thinking 'Yes, that's a perfect game to boost our friendly family store image!', and Vaz finds out and extrapolates from that that all games are rape simulators. I'm sure I could advertise a hooker on Ebay until it got reported, it does not make Ebay a whorehouse.

Its like if I hid some coke in a Bible, him then saying churches are drug pushers, its patently ridiculous, but if you say it loud enough, some people might believe you.

Grr, it just angers me the sheer desperation of some people to smash down gaming as some morally corrupt child destroying behemoth, instead of the industry that, while not blemish free, sure isn't any worse than than the music, movie, oil, or pharmaceutical industries, and actually makes the UK a fair bit of cash. Uk games companies are one of our few remaining successes, stop trying to stamp them into the ground, you suited dummy.
