No, I'm not talking about Banjo Kazooie.

Nowadays, it's very common for people to trade in their old games. Some of us, however, treat games like collectibles-- keeping them all in mint condition, fussing over missing game manuals, etc., etc.

Discontinued titles, limited editions, special cartrages-- these are the gems every collector hopes to stumble upon in a yard sale or snag off of some chump on eBay.

I'm interested to see what rare games my pals here at The Escapist have managed to horde away in their closets.

Most of my most treasured games are for the Sega Saturn-- I picked up a huge box of games from a flea market, all in excellent condition. Among them were Shining Force III and Clockwork Knight 2. Then I have a mint-condition copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga that I grabbed out of a $10 Sega Saturn bin at a store called Video Game Cavern (it was actually sealed when I bought it, but unlike many collectors I lack the self-control to keep them in their original packaging).

I'm not much of a collector. I'm a gamer. When I get a game, no matter how rare, I want to test it and see why it's so rare and appreciated.

I also have a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga, although I have to admit it's not sealed anymore. Not after I opened it and played it. One of the best RPGs of all time, got to say. You got to appreciate the folks that crafted a language of their own for the universe that the game is in.

I also have a copy of Radiant Silvergun (got it cheap straight from Japan...how can you resist?) and no, that's not sealed either. I have a sealed copy of the original PS1 version of Valkyrie Profile, but only because I had played it before I got it.

I also have an Atari 2600 cartridge of ET, though I'm not sure how rare it is. Probably not very, since there are plenty to pick from if you decide to dig from the right landfill.

The only game I personally own is the Non-greatest-hits version of Final Fantasy VII.

One other rare game I'd like to mention is "Shin megami tensei nocturne". I've been hunting for that game for years and just when I started working at Gamestop we ended up having three copies and they're all still worth 60 bucks for a fairly old game.

I also had to do a bit of digging to find a good copy of that game. I ended up buying it on ebay for 60 bucks-- though nowadays I see it in stores a lot more often. Ah well.

Rarities? Among the few I still have, I count two among those I keep just for novelty. Herzog Zwei for the Genesis and Maniac Mansion for the NES.

Anything by Origin... that made my childhood.
Do you have the cloth maps from the Ultima games? The ankh? How about the spellbooks?

And the "Jane's Fighting Spacecraft" documents from Wing Commander?

Man, this takes me back.

My brother found an non-greatest-hits version of FFVII, but it's missing disc one.
At a flea market for $10, too.

Ico and Killer 7 for the PS2 and Marvel Vs Capcom for the Xbox 360. My buddy has a copy of Futurama for Xbox that he says is rare, and it could very well be.

Only game that I have that's sorta rare is Kessen III and that's only because they made few. I gave some N64 cartridges to a friend and there wasn't really anything rare in there unless you count Banjo Twooie :p unless that talk to Pikachu game was rare.

Hmm in terms of Rarities I guess the best ones go to the Saturn. I have Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Wisdom, Psychonauts in the Xbox will get there eventually, Sonic CD, Baku Baku, Shining the Holy Ark and a couple others. All played or will eventually be played too.

I also have a SEGA Nomad, which are absolute sods to find over here in the UK. Its a bit crap though.

Dance Dance Revolution Mario MIx. Surprisingly rare in the UK. I have a copy for some reason.

Also found a copy of FFVII PSX standard (i.e. not greatest hits/platinum) still shrink-wrapped in its original plastic (had the squaresoft logo on it) and I keep that wrapped in a blanket in a wooden box in my draw. I picked it up for £20 about a year ago. Fuck knows how much this is worth.

Also have old tape version of Elite for the c64
