Reynolds as the Green Lantern just doesn't look right. He just doesn't quite convey that whole "super cop of the galaxy" look.
I don't mind him being a Lantern; I just can't see him as Hal.
I agree. He seems more like a Kyle Rayner version of GL to me.
I'd even say this look would be great if they were somehow trying to incorporate Ion into the story (dear God I hope not).

It looks a bit like Kyle Rayner's Ion/Parralax-lite suit. In my opinion, Rayner was a far superior Lantern to Jordan, if only because Rayner actually MADE THINGS with the ring. Hal Jordan was pretty standard: boxing glove, glowing plane, glowing shield, glowing fist to pick things up... Rayner's repertoire included such treats as: green Xenomorph after fighting Aliens, green Lovecraftian horrors, energy mech-suits, bizarre Goldberg Machines from the ring. Rayner was literally an artist, as in "his character was a goddamned comic book artist" so the amount of fun the CG department could have had is obscene... Jordan is a boring GL, who's basically just a "superman-lite" character whose main power is perseverance and lack of fear. WTF is with that? Rayner on the other hand was human, deep, amusing, sarcastic, and by all accounts, a more complicated and interesting character. Sorry about the rant, but I feel that they went with an acceptable enough costume, but a poor character arc.

The mask looks unimaginably cheap - hopefully that's just a badly photoshopped placeholder. Other than that I actually love this design, mainly because I was never a fan of the white color component of the suit in the comics and I'm a sucker for anything that looks like nanotech.

Is it just me or does it look a little like a Crysis nano-suit?
Oh good, I wasn't the only one who was thinking that.

It looks okay, but a bit off-kilter for the given subject material, if you ask me.

Wait, since your part of the escapist staff, why are you worried about the "it isn't an advertisement" rule? I doubt the mods would dare try to block you :p
Because we aren't affiliated with the site, I have to be careful about linking to products. Don't get me wrong - I'd personally buy stuff from them to make my own GL suit, but there is a disconnect between what I think and what the Escapist thinks. Hence, the disclaimer.

Also, I tend to be more receptive to those that make rules when they don't turn around and hypocritically break them at a moment's notice. I imagine the same is true for others, so having the staff play by their own rules is just a good idea in general. :)

I'd definitely change the domino mask, it doesn't look like a domino at all. Besides that I certainly hope that the muscle lines are just a momentary effect as the suit forms.

Yeah, well Hal can go get a can of beer from the fridge without having flashbacks.

I see... a bit of lead by example and a bit of "I want to keep my job" :p

I don't like the way he, the actor, looks in that shot, but I've seen him elsewhere and I think he'd do alright. It's just the angle of that picture...

As for the suit, I like it alright. I can see exactly where they're trying to go with it - make it look more like it was created by the ring, rather than a typical rubber super suit. It's patterned to look like his muscles, which I'm not sure if I like...simply because it'll make it look more like he's naked, but I think I'd have to see it in action to fully decide. I have a feeling it'll look really cool in motion.

Your comment on him looking not at all like Will Ferrel made me laugh out loud!

OT: I only scanned the comments cause I'm a bit busy this morning but A) I agree that they could totally have gone more traditional and been fine, and B) I think the direction they are going will be fine also. For me it's more about the man behind the mask and I love me some Ryan Reynolds. He was the best part of that god awful Wolverine movie by far. He's got a good personality for Green Lantern I think. :)

I can't take that guy seriously for some reason. Green Nano-Suit. Doesn't Greeny have a Cape?
He hasn't had a cape since he was magic-based, and weak against wood.
Wrong Green Lantern. There is the space cop ones, and the original who had a magical power source.
1. He said that
2. It was ret-conned into the continuity that his ring was made out of the same ... stuff ... as the other rings.
No it isnt. The lantern rings are Tech. The Starheart is the essence of what POWERS that tech.

Don't get me wrong - Silver Age GL (Hal) is the superior lantern, and is the most widely known. Golden Age GL did rock a cape though, so... yeah. I do read comics.

Also, if the movie doesn't have Pieface [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Kalmaku] I shall immediately declare it a failure.
I will be happy with Killowog and Mogo.

Does anyone else think they should ditch the mask all together and go with the glowing green eyes look that they give John Stewart?

They operate in space a lot and they are friggin super cops so it doesn't seem like alternate identities are truly necessary to the character.
Hal does it as he has family he wants to protect.
Yes, because we all looked at the movie still and said, "I have no idea what actor that is, if only I could see the area around his eyes! I heard it was Ryan Reynolds but that mask just makes it impossible to tell!"

If Super-Hero films want to play it realistic (to a certain degree) than they need to give a super hero a little more than a domino mask.
Hal Jordan is also obscured by the green glow created by the ring.

Actually, when Hal Jordan was sent to jail, the first Sinestro arc, the warden/security guy recognized Hal Jordan domino mask and all. Or he at least knew he had seen him before.

The entire Hal Jordan Early Years canon has changed.
