Realistic GTA?

Dont get me wrong here people, there will never be a way to make GTA COMPLETELY realistic. But I was wondering if anybody else shares my vision.
My vision - A GTA where the cops are not as lenient as they are in GTA 4, Like hijacking a car will result in a instant two/three star rating if spotted doing so by a person with a phone, getting shot about four times will result in death, running traffic lights and driving on the wrong side of the road will get some wanted stars, if pursued by the police it could be in your best intrest to turn youself in if overwelmed because death will hold a large penalty and fist fights against more than two people is a one way ticket to the hospital.
The point is that crime is somthing that will make your life in GTA hard and it is in your best intrest to avoid it and only do it if absolutely nessassery or part of the story missions, I understand this 'sumulation/Survival' concept will not fly with some people and thats ok, but I personly thinks its a great idea.
Does anybody else like this style of gameplay?

Video games are made for escapism. Realism is fine and dandy, but no one plays a game like GTA IV for a real-life experience. Games like that are best left to simulations.

Anyway, that sounds incredibly infuriating and boring.

It looks great on paper... but it'll turn getting from A to B a real chore. Driving on the right side of the road, not running red lights and sticking to the speed limit? Have you ever heard of the Citylife RPG mod for ARMA II?

It could work, supposing that the cops don't get cars with the ability to catch up to anything (which they have) and that there are implemented features such as safe houses, not necessarily a home, but maybe a friend or family owned location where you can lay low until the heat dies down.

Agreed. The more real games get the less interested I am.

NO. This sounds incredibly frustrating. There's a reason why not nearly as many people have jacked cars in real life than in games. BECAUSE IT'S FUCKING HARD. (Not that I know from experience)

Honestly, GTA4 was a little too realistic for me let alone this vision. Although I mostly just sped through the story missions in SA til i unlocked the second island, then spent the rest of the time driving off mountains on a motorcycle so maybe im not that one to ask...

Same, I've been playing San Andreas and Vice City recently (far superior games in my opinion). This game just sounds like GTA:IV but even worse.

Im guessing its just me then. Maybe just a option? Like Yahtzee's idea for survival mode for Red Dead Redemption.

being seen by somebody with a mobile? Too arbitrary, the more realism you add to police behaviour the more random it'll seem to the player. I've seen a few players that thought getting spotted by a foot patrol was random even though they're marked on the minimap so having citizens with mobile phones shop you would be a nightmare.

Games are about reacting to actions the player takes not trying to guess which underlying social mechanics have added to the games AI

I could never play something like that. Realistic rarely equals fun, and that is what games should be. The only thing that will ever come before gameplay for me is story, and even then I can only allow for that eventuality with adventure game (Dreamfall had awful gameplay but I love it anyway because it isn't obtrusive like an fps with bad gameplay would be). If you want realism like that then you're best off looking for mods or making one yourself.

However, I wouldn't be adverse to the developer putting that sort of idea in as a joke difficulty setting. I don't want to see them spend time on it, just put it in there whether or not is actually works. If it's impossible then it doesn't matter, as realistically GTA4 could not happen. Unless someone out there wants to try a Let's Play where:
Getting arrested for anything that would put you away IRL for <1 year means game over
Crashing at mid-speed/getting shot or something that puts you in hospital for over 6 months is game over (accounting for equal time rehab)
[there should be more rules, but I can't be bothered]

Well if you're British and read certain newspapers (i'm looking at you Daily Mail) you'll easily be lead to believe that someone living that life IS CLIMBING IN YOUR WINDOW.

You've got ten seconds to get to the bunker before Baby-eating half aids half terrorist raptors claw your door down and destroy your world!

Seriously though i like realism as much as the next guy (generic IRL joke here) but i think something like GTA4 was even too realisitic, my games distract me from realism. i like them to be abstract or something of a childhood fantasy rather than the crime sandbox game (Saints Row 2 aside).

That being said i do enjoy the occasionaly game like that but mainly because there's no consequences, if i go on a crime spree and die i respawn and i get put a little out of my way. thats fine.

If i was made to spend weeks recovering in a hospital under guard and then the arrest before trial and imprisonment. a sub-plot involving adjusting to the iside and then finally after years and years being released...i probably wouldn't commit the crimes in games.

Yeah. It was dull enough in GTAIV.

Yeah, realism has as much a part in games as it does in movies or any kind of media. I think there should be more realistic games with features such as the ones you mentioned. I see alot of comments saying how "realism sucks" or whatever. But there are people out there who like realism in games, and others who like balls to the walls wackery.

But I don't think GTA is the place for absolute realism. Although, I thought GTAIV was one of the best yet.

Yet, many movies aren't really realistic at all, so it's more of a subjective/opinionated thing on how important realism is.

Thats just silly. What does 1 shot give you 2 weeks in the hospital surgery bills and police coming to your door questioning why you were shot?

I don't really like GTA to begin with so I don't really know if your vision would work or not.

It sounds like a terrible idea. They went too far towards realism in GTA 4, and it was the worst game in the series.
