Yeah, realism has as much a part in games as it does in movies or any kind of media. I think there should be more realistic games with features such as the ones you mentioned. I see alot of comments saying how "realism sucks" or whatever. But there are people out there who like realism in games, and others who like balls to the walls wackery.

But I don't think GTA is the place for absolute realism. Although, I thought GTAIV was one of the best yet.
Yet, many movies aren't really realistic at all, so it's more of a subjective/opinionated thing on how important realism is.
I'm not sure if you were trying to agree or disagree with me there but you kinda said what I was tryna say. Realism is important because there are some people who enjoy realism in games/movies/book/whatever. However there is also some people who prefer unrealistic features in their games/movies/books.

BUT, the number of people who enjoy realism in games is a lot less than other forms of media because realism is much more noticably restraining on games.

Ah, I guess I read the post wrong. I apologize.

Dont get me wrong here people, there will never be a way to make GTA COMPLETELY realistic. But I was wondering if anybody else shares my vision.
My vision - A GTA where the cops are not as lenient as they are in GTA 4, Like hijacking a car will result in a instant two/three star rating if spotted doing so by a person with a phone, getting shot about four times will result in death, running traffic lights and driving on the wrong side of the road will get some wanted stars, if pursued by the police it could be in your best intrest to turn youself in if overwelmed because death will hold a large penalty and fist fights against more than two people is a one way ticket to the hospital.
The point is that crime is somthing that will make your life in GTA hard and it is in your best intrest to avoid it and only do it if absolutely nessassery or part of the story missions, I understand this 'sumulation/Survival' concept will not fly with some people and thats ok, but I personly thinks its a great idea.
Does anybody else like this style of gameplay?
Hmmm, in a word... HELLNO! That kills everything that is GTA.

I'm not sure that you understand the concept of GTA, the game is compleatly developed around breaking the law and getting away with it. Otherwise you'de just be playing a first person game of the sims and we all know that even Satan isn't so crule to make a game like that.

so basically the game is dont kill or play prison adventure for the rest of your life. It would take a long time to make and cost alot of money because of all of the recovery, prison stays, stuff like that. plus, the game wouldnt appeal to a big group of people. so it would be a waste of money

I wish GTA was more realistic in the sense that you'd have options and you're working your way up a rung.
Like you start off, you've got nothing but your scrawny little twit of a character and you've got to work your way from there, you don't even have the money for a gun or any real strength.

So, you "level up" by beating a "challenge", in this case, a gang of idiots who think they're tough, you find a tire iron, your character figures out "hey, I can use this shit laying around to beat people to death, cool".
In this case, leveling up is actually having your character not be a moron and figure stuff out, get new items, new abilities, etc.

That's what I want; meaning to interaction, joy through challenge, purpose to my character's actions.

I don't think I'd like realism to that extent. I'd like to see more games in general to have an optional health system where what you have is all you will have for the whole mission. No regenerating health or health packs.

Realism, used correctly, can be fun. Look at the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. titles for instance, realistic in some ways, not in others. The key is to use realism to enhance the experience and immerse the player, doing it for its own sake is pointless.

Go with the Fallout New Vegas method: make it a toggle-able option, those hardcore enough (i.e. me) will have a blast.

I think you want Gta 4 hardcore edition. You know it would be nice if gta games had varying difficulties not just average joe difficulty

I don't think realism is what GTA needs. Mostly what I'd like to see is-
NIKO! COUSIN! WANT TO GO BOWLING?!?!?!
....less of that.

All in all the idea you're trying to sell isn't realism. It's like saying "you know all that fun stuff in GTA? like driving at high speeds down the dead center of the road threading the needle between cars, speeding past multiple red lights, to slam head on into an old lady by a chest high wall and getting launched 400 yards into a tree? Yeah lets make it so doing that immediately gets the army called on you."

Also making crime hard in a game based around crime..is just flat out silly. Mafia 2's way of handling it all is maybe as realistic as I'd let a game go. It also has fines.

You only get one life. The police don't respond until you get out of hand, at which time the response isn't obvious until a couple of detective show up at your pad and arrest you and every friend you have at night while you are all sleeping. You then spend the next year or so in and out of court trying to fight off your harsh punishment. You get released years later commit more crimes until eventually some form of three strikes law lands you in jail for the rest of your life.

That or some drug addicted punk kills you when you try to "contact" them because their brain is fried by meth.

This sounds like "The Sims: Thug Life". No fun. Making a game where small time crime is the only thing you might get away with, and you have to spend most of your money on bail makes no sense. You'd be standing on a corner pushing drugs for the first 75% of the game, and then, if you're lucky, you make it to the big league and invest the money you've made in real estate and political campaigns. It sounds like a "The Wire: The Roleplaying Game" (I can't really make up my mind about what kinf of game it sounds like, but who cares...), and it's bound to be no fun at all.

As gaming is an escape from realism, creating a real life simulator is somewhat counter productive, and though there might be a market for it, I doubt that it would be a fincancially viable undertaking, and thus it will not happen. I mean, if we're going to do chores or other menial tasks in a game, it at least has to be in a world were we have to kill dragons to do it, or in the case of games like GTA it would have to involve whacking some gangsters and a minimum of one high speed car chase.

I just realised that "The SIMS" does actually exist, and that most of my points are invalid, but that doesn't change the fact that said game is boring as sin (or rather, as boring as no sin at all).

If it was really realistic then maybe 1/50 people would actually report you committing a crime.

It could actually be good. But it would require so much tweaking, it would cease to be anything even remotely resembling GTA.

No.
Do not take away my 12 cumbersome weapons, my amazing team of lawyers, and my ability to reincarnate. GTA4 leaned too far into realism and it will never be able to compete with III-San Andreas.

It would be interesting as an experiment i guess, thought the last thing we need is another GTA after number 4.
