Normally I don't join forums and stay for more than 2 months. So I started wondering why I've been here so long. I've realized that most escapists actually blow the whole gamer stereotype wide open. We spell properly, profanities are kept to the minimum, and we actually have PROPER discussions. Not something i've seen in most of the other gamer forums.

So, fellow escapists, why are you here and why have you stayed?

I've stayed because all other competing games sites(except kotaku) have too many adverts for my liking. Although now I have adblock on my Google Chrome...

Meh, I suppose you just get used to visiting somewhere.

*shrugs* You can occasionally get a decent discussion going and people on here can be pretty amusing at times. I am not on her anywhere near as much as I used to though. Reading a discussion using real English is always a bonus, plus the Mods tend to do their jobs unlike a lot of places.

A for what you said: I'd say we prove a few stereotypes wrong while hopelessly proving others to be correct.

I stay because the community is that good.
And it is the first real forum I ever joined >.>
But mainly because it is so good, with a great community and lots to do, and I need to sink my spare time into something now that ISW is gone ;-;

It mostly makes sense and isnt full of raging lunatics just out to shit over everyone else's opinions and call them a "fag". Plus I like being in the loop on a lot of things they bring up in the news.

Reasons to stay;

1) Great, mature community that have real conversations. (also, admins stay on top trolling and flame wars.)
2) Good source of news relating to the gaming industry
3) Hilarious videos and articles

Don't know this is the first fourm I have ever joined. Just like it, and just like talking to people who have more intresting things to say then "so I'm going to dye my hair red now did I mention red is my favorit color?" or "so I got so loaded I could not see anymore". Imagine that we more cussing and poorer grammar then mine.

Interesting topics that allow me to flex my nerd muscles, as well as interesting discussions that I'm actually curious as to what other people say, and a level of quality/thought in posts that means I'm not worried about losing brain cells from reading them (barring things like "best noob moment"... But those are still funny!).

I actually enjoy the topics and reading the responses and also it's great that people actually read what I write, I've been quoted so many times and I get the notifications when I log onto Escapist.

These boards are actually filled with people who can have a rational discussion and don't start flame wars.

It's only been a few days for me but so far really enjoyable responses and conversations.

I usually don't bother with forums because I thought, "Who actually is going to read what I've written", But people do and I actually want to read what they write.

It's a great site, community, video and article wise. Also, it has become a habit of mine to be online and have the site in the background.

So, I like it here.

I like this community a lot. Of all the forums I've joined, this has to be the one with the best community of them all.
The videos and articles keep me here, too.

You've been here for a month and a bit so who knows where you'll be in another bit, hmmm?

We don't blow the hole on the gamer stereotype, not at all. Maybe a couple of people, the older guys (age wise not post count or join date), the staff and the contributors might stand out but the masses are pretty much the same as the masses at IGN or whatever. Here though we have a moderation team that seems to work really hard and they keep us from attacking each other while some forums don't, that's what makes us look better than some other forums. We look better but under that skin lies the typical gamer core and if all that matter to you than fine but often that core is broken and the typical gamer forumnes seeps out.

It isn't as if magically only people of certain internet standards find this website, that would be stupid. Maybe the magazine plays some role in making the people here act different but if it does than it is small. Nope, we aren't much better, we just have a good mod team that keeps us under control. I have seen better forums that blow the lid off the gamer stereotype and I have seen many equal to this forum.

The reason that I stay is because I know the layout, I know some people, there is a lot of content that I enjoy here and I haven't found a forum that is worth swapping. I have trouble being a member of two communities so I'd end up leaving this website and I haven't found any that are so good that I can forget about all the good things I like on the Escapist and leave. Some have come close but never close enough.

To be honest, I come to the site for the videos and articles, the forum being just an amusing distraction.

I am... unoriginal? And The Escapist is easily one of the best sources of videogaming media out there, as well as having its very own style, procured by some of its staff such as Mr Crosshaw, Mr Graham and Mr Young.

I like the people, the videos, the info and this actually one of the first fourms/sites I've been in that I haven't been called a Ni**** or Fur*** and no one makes vulgar remarks about me sexually or in regards to my family.

So I like the mature adult mindset with the fun and wacky atmosphere.

The people here are politer than any forum I've seen (except the now-defunct Keenspot El Goonish Shive forums), and impoliteness is firmly discouraged by the mods. People actually like talking about things here. There's video game news I actually care about (not much, but still, better than nothing). I love the videos. And I still have to finish writing all of my reviews.

I'll be here a while.
