Yeah The Longest Journey came first, then Dreamfall: The Longest Journey was the sequel. The benefit of Dreamfall is that it's probably a lot easier to get into because it doesn't have any of the frustrating 'pixel hunting' type puzzles of the older adventure games, but rather is more on par with something like Zelda.Tallim said:Lol, while I approve of the suggestion because DF > Minecraft IMO it is a really hard game to get into due to the overly clumsy interface and Ascii graphics.Cogwheel said:Since she's a fan of Sims...
Dwarf Fortress?
Might be worth trying an adventure game of some sort. Plenty to choose from ranging from simple point and click to first person stuff. Longest Journey was an instant hook for my wife. You then couldn't get her off the PC and she just devoured adventure games. Then she started playing Final Fantasy 10 then 7 and I could no longer game on the consoles :/
EDIT:OOps no not Longest Journey, the hook was Day Of The Tentacle, she used to play that once a year as she loved it so much.
Yeah, I'd recommend any Popcap games, for me though it would be Peggle. Even my grandmother could understand that game.AC10 said:Plants vs. Zombies seems to be popular with the ladies.
Go all out and get Orange Box. After Portal, Half Life shouldn't be to big a stretch and then she will be ready for TF2 (which if Free2Play now). That way you can game together -- or against each other.Limecake said:I would be willing to bet she could figure Portal out pretty quickly, the gameplay really isn't too difficult to get your head around.
I was about to rage out on this thread until I read your post. THANK YOU for posting this. It's not because she's a girl that she'll only enjoy casual games.Zarmi said:Wait, wait, wait... WHY is this degenerating into who can throw out the most casual game after the other? Okay... She couldn't get a grip on the mechanics of RIFT, because RIFT is a slightly advanced MMO due to the way that the class system works, but it's overall pretty simple. Go with another MMO, possibly WoW as that's very easy to get into.
Otherwise, bring out a proper game? A shooter, any shooter. Every half ass idiot knows how to use a mouse (I hope..), or just give her some more time with RIFT? Because.. Sims, Minecraft, and Plant vs. Zombies is just.. eugh.. Or simply kick it up a notch, and do like my girlfriend, play something with gore and explosions. Because there simply isn't better.
If you go for easy game mechanics, she will end up sticking with that. Throw her headfirst into the water with sharks and give her some game that takes a bit to learn, preferrably something that's actually FUN. Take ANY shooter, that's easy.
There's no need to have your girlfriend play a game that requires she got the brain the size of an inbred bird, because you know... She can think and all, I assume. Go for a proper game, there's only a few hundred thousands.

What this man said. I just played the demo, and I want it nao Also, all my friends who have played the game, say that it's one of the best they have played all year. It's simple, accessible, and quirky. =]attackshark said:Bastion
So.. It's an innacurate assumption that she can think.. Huh, okay.reckoner09 said:An unfortunately innacurate assumptionZarmi said:There's no need to have your girlfriend play a game that requires she got the brain the size of an inbred bird, because you know... She can think and all, I assume.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Think we're going to try torchlight and Bastion for some RPG & questing elements. We'll try Cargo too because it looks... Interesting!
A Joke.Zarmi said:So.. It's an innacurate assumption that she can think.. Huh, okay.
