You know them, and, if you are a gamer, you almost certainly love them.
Ocarina of Time.
Half-Life.
Counter Strike.
Super Mario 64.
Chrono Trigger.
The list goes on. These games are almost unconditionally loved by everyone who remembers playing them when they were younger. A number of them have stood the test of time and can are still fantastic when looked at next to recent, comparable games.

Now, here's the question, inspired by my desire to pick up a new game and hatred of boring threads that will likely die out shortly after a satisfactory answer is found.
What recent ( within, say, the last 9 years ) titles do you think will be remembered as "classic" games? What will this generation's gamers be telling their kids was wonderful in 10-20 years, and why?

My pick would have to be Castle Crashers. It has a pleasing visual style that is likely to age well, in that CC's cartoon-y style will still look good next to the spectacular 3D graphics that we'll be sure to have in another decade or so. The core gameplay is already ancient but still thoroughly enjoyable, so as long as the gamers of the future haven't moved on to full-body motion control for everything, it'll likely be accessible and just as fun as it was when the game came out.

I would happily say Bioshock but I loved Bioshock and I know many didn't

Fallout 3 would also be another choice but again, others didn't like it

If you wanted something that everyone can agree on:
Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Seriously, who would disagree

I actually see a lot of people who don't like COD4.

Knights of the Old Republic.
It is arguably one of the greatest RPG's ever, in my opinion.

What, really?

OT: I'm gonna go into complete denial and say Battlefront 2 because I don't want to wake up from my happy fantasy world where horses dance and I walk around in a large warm pinkish bubble.

I agree with this %100, even though I didn't like COD4 everyone else seems to think that it is the messiah of games and will undoubtedly be considered a classic. I'd say another obvious one would be Halo, maybe GoW.

Chronicles of Riddick would have been a classic if it haven't been re-made. World of warcraft if that count's. Halo, obviously (just the first one). Half Life and portal. Oblivion.
Oh and Indigo Prophecy (Fahrenheit) it just does something original and give a new meaning to the word ''choice''.
I'd love to say Psychonauts, but the gameplay was very dodgy and it's just not that good. The original stuff, visuals and story made me love that game.

The original list is mostly of really popular games from the nineties that a lot of people went bat shit about at the time. I imagine that there were some really popular games from this decade that people went bat shit about so there will be some. Games like GTA3, Halo and WoW.

Since games like Planescape: Torment, X-Com and Day of the Tentacle were not in the original list then it's safe bet that most of less popular games will not be remembered in the same way as they were mostly not played by the kids.

Personally the original Disgaea to me is a recent classic. Been remade twice already on PSP and DS. Biggest time dump I've ever had.

To be even more recent BlazBlue is emerging as instant classic among friends, never thought I'd play a fighting game this much since days of the arcades.

The HALO series (whether you like it or not, it still is influential) Mass Effect, and Assassin's Creed.

The Orange box in general and Persona 3. I'll agree with the people that say Halo as well, maybe BioShock.

Boy, I can't help but notice the all too conspicuous absence of the Halo series. I realize, the series has earned itself a sizeable amount of ire, but let's be honest with ourselves here, the modern FPS game still echoes Halo. Love it or hate it, the series is a fucking titan. And it will be a classic.

Other games I would say should be modern classics are Bioshock, Fallout 3, Oblivion, and Batman: Arkham Asylum. Not only did I love all of these games, but the reviews for all of them seem to have been quite positive on the whole.
