FFX if you are fine with turn-based combat.
Tales of Vesperia if you prefer real-time combat.
If you enjoy strategy games, try out SRPGs like the Fire Emblem series.

i'd recommend killing youreself, and if that doesn't work out for you, any jrpg should have the same effect.

Okami was the most beautiful thing EVER. I played it on PS2, but since you have a Wii, that should be fun too.

Golden Sun, also a great game. I liked the music, and the puzzles were fun to solve (Psynergy <3).

Personally, I can't stand Star Ocean. The voices drive me up the wall, and it reeks of blatant sexism. Turn the voices off if you decide to try it.

You and malicious have a lot in common. As with him, if you haven't played don't post.

The only ones I play are Mother 2 (Earthbound), Mother 3 and Pokemon.

I have a feeling that if we get enough Mother fans they'll bring the series to Europe and America.
Or we can send all the mother fans to japan. Both work.

I agree, many people enjoy JRPG's, simply put people shouldn't be arseholes if they don't like something.

@ Aedrial

As i said I'm looking to explore the genre, hopefully with positive results. I don't mind people criticising jrpgs if they have experience of them but morons who spout rubbish rub me up the wrong way.

How 'bout a western RPG, something with goblins and swords and men in loincloths going on about wenches? sounds more interesting

See my previous post. As I've said before Western rpgs aren't perfect either.

Two games I can recommend with zero qualms: Disgaea: Afternoon of Darness and Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones.

Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness is a turn based strategy RPG with some great humor and a protagonist that you will love to hate (or at least, love to be mildly revulsed by). It has some of the best American voice acting I've ever heard (save for the fact that you have to push "X" to get to the next line. It breaks the flow.) and some of the special moves, especially the character specials, are really flashy and pretty.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones is another turn based strategy RPG, but it's on the Gameboy Advanced (or at least the one I played was on the GBA). It isn't as visually impressive as Disgaea (which is on the PS2), but that's only to be expected given the difference in platforms. I find it very difficult to explain to people who have not played Fire Emblem what is so compelling about it, just know that this is a hearty recommendation coming from a huge strategy fan.

EDIT: Wups, make it three! Kingdom Hearts 2 is a great real-time JRPG if you can get yourself past the three hour long intro. I haven't played the first one in the series, but I have played Chain of Memories and 2, both of which impressed me greatly.
