Actually, his subsequent albums, Songs for the Road and Let the Hard Times Roll are probably better, but this is the one I really love.
Yes, he looks like the kind of generally acoustic singer-songwriter that are dime-a-dozen, but seriously give him a chance. He's criminally underrated, with a good ear for a melodic hook, and awesome lyrics. I can count the number of bands I actually find emotionally affecting lyrically on one hand (what can I say, I'm horribly cynical), but he pulls it off constantly.
And he's a consistently entertaining and witty live performer, I've been to see him tons of times and never been disappointed.
Plus, he makes good use of a loop pedal for his angry world-is-going-to-shit songs, and I'm a sucker for loop pedals:
