I have to say that I'm concerned about RA3. I didn't play the original C&C Tiberium-based games, but C&C 3 didn't thrill me all that much. It just doesn't feel as visceral as RA2. Looking at what people have said about RA3, I've drawn up a list of what would encourage me to buy the game, and what would deter me:

Pros:
*Parachuting Bears. PARACHUTING...BEARS.
*Graphics look great
*Naval buildings should add a whole new element of gameplay
*The mechanics of the game seem to have been fleshed out, yet still basically the same
*(Hopefully) it retains the cheesy feel that we've come to know and love.

Cons:
*You got anime in my Red Alert, Just where did this Empire of the Rising Sillybollocks pop up from anyway?
*New Tanya actor...why not just call her something different?
*No nuke for the Soviets. Soviets are all about nukes!
*No Yuri, by the looks of it.
*EA's running it.

So basically, the good bits seem to be equal (to me anyway) to the worries I'm having. I'll buy the game, but I'll be sure to hang on to the receipt.

Long story short, russians lost RA2, russia is a mess, bunch of high-ups take experimental time thingy back in time and erase Einstein, then go back. Now the russians are winning. However while pounding the allies into the dust the Empire of the Rising Sun (and it's cult of technology) had time to develop its stuff and invades just as the russians are busy mopping up europe. RA3 is that fight.

Btw, no more nukes is a result of Einstein being wiped from history. (no more general theory of relativity) They get Vacuum Bombs, Satelite drops (blatant steal from Act of War: High Treason) and ofcourse a huge magnetic weapon, not sure what that one does, but it's probably awesome. Russian tech seems to have gone more to the magnetic and electrical side, with even the battletanks getting EM addons. (harpoon on the Apoc to reel in opponents and the hammer using a mag-grapler to steal enemy weapons)

the Empire seems to draw heavily on anime for references which comes out in many of their units (lots of transforming multi-purpose stuff and giant robots) and the fact that they have psychic assassins dressed in schoolgirl uniforms, she does make Yuri look weak though, she can juggle battletanks. ^_^

Ah, so they're going with the Soviets winning for once? I guess I can kinda get behind that then. Still, I wonder if it's really the right theme for the Red Alert universe. I guess time will tell.

Well they "win" from the allies, but before they can finish them off the Empire decides that running all over the russians is an awesome idea.

What I meant was that in most RTS games where there are two clearly-defined sides, the "good" guys are usually shown as having won the last one. Cases in point are yuri's Revenge, where the Allies beat back the Soviets in RA2, and any Warcraft game up untilmWC3, where the Humans/Alliance beat back the Horde, and then join up in WC3 to beat back the Legion.

I would have got it, it looks awesome, but i refuse to have my installations limited. If i buy a game i want to install it as many bloody times as i like. RA3 looks like a good game, but its 5 install limit ruins it.

EDIT: extra note. you can't return or re-sell the game as you may have already used up all the installations, making the game as good as a coaster.

A lot of people here seem to want Red Alert 3 to be Red Alert 2 with a graphics update.

I don't get it, if you guys want the exactly same factions, all the same units, all the same superweapons and even the same damn actors in the cutscenes, go replay Red Alert 2.

If EA gave you what you want, I bet half of you would be bitching about how EA milks franchises to death by continually re-releasing the same game over and over again with nothing more than shiny new graphics updates.

Whether it's better or worse than Red Alert 2, it's for the best that they add new things instead of releasing the same game over and over.

I'm perfectly fine with some of the mechanics changes, particularly how the Allied and Soviet sides build, and the sea-construction. Hell, I like the look of the Soviet Dreadnoughts as now they may actually be useful. Engineers with dinghies? I'll have that!

But some of the things they changed are what makes Red Alert Red Alert. Tanya with a different actor? Just make her a different person! No nukes? Why not? Is there a reason? What do the Soviets have instead?

There is a reason why they don't have them (and I mentioned it above too). By removing Einstein from the timeline the General Theory of Relativity was never developed and neither was nuclear weaponry. Instead of nukes the soviets now have the Vacuum Bomb, which is basically a mini-blackhole that sucks everything in range into it.

Has some fun side-effects too, as the russian time-travellers run into the same issue. (as in a "wtf no nukes" moment in an FMV, the scene is part of the launch trailer I think)

Other than Fallout 3, Red Alert 3 is the other big title I'm aching to play. I can't wait to play RA3 against my brother over LAN. Man, I love this time of year, and yet I hate it. So many great games, it's unheard of, but I don't have enough time to play them all.

Huh, I completely overlooked that. I guess that makes sense then. Guess that means the precious desolators and demo trucks are gone as well :(
I guess my real gripe then is that it's a black hole generator, in essence. Doesn't that seem a little too high-end sci-fi for the Soviet side? After all, the Soviet approach to thinks is to make them big, asplodey, and with little or no regard for the environment. A black hole just seems out of place for them.

It also means that the americans would never have had that initial cutscene with the nuke launch bays of their own nukes, where Yuri stops them from launching, and instead blow up inside their own silos.

Well, you loose the desolator troops, but you do get desolator airstrikes. (nuclear material is apparently still available) as for the vacuum bomb, the russians really focussed their technology on magnetic field manipulation, the vacuum bomb is a by-product of that.
They even have a kind of magnetic beam satelite as a secondary superweapon and both main battletanks have magnetic upgrades. (a magnetic winch and a grinder on the Apoc and a magnetic weapon grapler on the hammer, allowing it to steal weapons of defeated enemies)

I'm not certain on the demo-trucks, but I think they are gone too.

The really advanced weaponry is from the Empire, from Psychic Ioncannons to Wave-force sonic artillery.

As for the temporal paradox created by this turn of events, don't think to much about it, it'll just give you a headache. ^_^
The allies loose a lot of their tech too, including initially the prism weapons and chrono technology. Later they get them back for some reason, no idea why.

The dumb ***** they cast as the protagonist(jenny mccarthy) is one of the idiots who thinks autism is a disease that can be "cured" by raising people who have it in a differnt way. That alone is enough reason for me to not even pirate it because i could use that hd space for something less moronic.

Then there's a bunch of lesser issues like securom, lack of 8 player support, water essentialy being blue grass, the nerfed economy and a rather strange perception of balance that do absolutely nothing to redeem it.

The remix trailer for this (apologizes if this has already been posted) is hysterical.

You can not play a great game because you hate what one of the characters in the game stands for out of principle.. Or you can ignore that and have fun.

*Marching sounds*

Bah when a game gets this much advertising, it won't be any good.
History repeats itself.

(Obviously i could be wrong and now the whole "I'll judge it when i get it" is blown away ;o)
George Takai was brillian casting IMO and Stormare is hilarious

Your friends obviously haven't played the beta. This game is terrible (not to mentioned unbalanced).

It's called a beta for a reason you know.
