Yup it also makes a good kids intro to online gaming and online social experiences.EcstaticObsessive said:Yeah, some parts are pretty shite now, but what they've kept is as good as ever.WhatHityou said:Woooow now that was a long time ago, I remember back then. I no longer have an account but it almost makes me wanna make a new one to see whats changed. Though knowing how tv movies and video-games almost never make anything better when combined. It makes me think twice.
I remember that dam tree that gave free stuff. Never got anything from it though lol.
And the Money Tree! I remember one time I picked up a bucket of sludge. I was so proud of myself.
But of course. I made some real good mates over Neopets, and in a way, it showed me how big the world is, seeing as beforehand, I really couldn't imagine life outside my small suburb in Auckland.WhatHityou said:Yup it also makes a good kids intro to online gaming and online social experiences.
I remember finding the Faerie Queens hidden tower and seeing that she had Darigan and Baby Paintbrushes on permanent sale.Luke5515 said:When ever I found a fire paintbrush and a sketch paintbrush I felt like the luckiest person in the goddamned world.

Yeah, I remember it. 'Twas my first website that I actively visited (apart from GameFAQs) probably. . .oh, nine years ago now? I always had blue pets, but the only one I can really remember is the Shoryu. I stopped visiting after both of my accounts were frozen within a day of each other for literally no reason.EcstaticObsessive said:Now, I'm not sure about the rest of Escapist, but Neopets pretty much introduced me to the internet. It was the first site I visited daily and enjoyed exploring. I think I must have been about nine or ten. Thinking back, I can only remember good things about that site.
I think most of us will agree that nowadays, the site has really gone to the dogs. Mostly because they actually started to try and milk a profit from it. I can understand wanting to make some money for your work, and I guess the dickloads of ads everywhere just weren't doing it. Fair enough. Even though it's fair, it doesn't mean we have to like it.
A while ago they did a massive rollback, deleting any accounts that hadn't been used in the past year. My first account was one of the many deleted, as I lost my password for it ages ago. The site just feels so empty now. Like, you can really feel the lack of people. Or is that just me?
Anyways, I've still got my latest account. Mainly because I'm OCD about the plushies. If there's one thing I still like, it's being able to collect certain items, and I just adore the plushies. I want them all, as ridiculous as it is.
So, Escapist, have you still got a Neopets account? Do you use it? Come share your Neopets stories or whatever, I'm interested in how many of my fellow Escapists also have fond Neopets memories.

Seems Nickelodeon ruins everything they buy out. I miss the old Quizilla.Z of the Na said:I too, played Neopets when I was but a young one. Much like the other fine people in this thread, I was around 10 years old when I started playing it. This of course, was back when the website wasn't owned by Nickelodeon.
TheColdHeart said:I remember playing it briefly ages and ages ago. I must have started playing back when it was still new-ish from what I remember people saying about it. I remember I had a bright blue dog/wolf-type thing I thought it was pretty cool until other things took my attention and I just stopped playing for something else.
The ol' growing up and moving on thing, eh? Fair enough. The Hero Killer said:I used to love Neopets especially battling them in the arena, and then I discovered Pokemon

Ah! You posted it! You're a sweetie!Hecate said:Oh man, I played that site for yeeaaars when I was in highschool. When I went to college, my main account and my roommate's account were frozen because we shared an IP, so I quit for the most part. I've heard from friends who still liked the site that it's been going rapidly downhill, though. Glad I got out before I could experience that disappointment. I had a Royal Kyrii, Baby Hissi, Ghost Kougra, and Yellow Gelert (ironically my favorite) before they froze me. Had a Grey Scorchio and a Christmas Kougra on another account, but I gave that account away to a friend.
I sometimes go back to check things out, but the site is so flash-heavy and riddled with ads that my poor computer can't take it. And if I go to one of the pet lookups with tons of animated items on it, say goodnight - a Firefox crash is imminent.
When I quit Neo, I started playing Subeta.net and I've been there for almost six years now. The site's art and community are a lot better, and they let you sell their site credits for profit as well as buying and selling your own art, which is awesome. Subeta doesn't have flash games, but that's fine with me... you earn money through a quest system there and it's a lot easier to reach your goals. If anyone feels like signing up and giving it a shot, I'm the user Saga there and I'd be happy to help you get the hang of it.
As of yet, no. I'm more on the look out for plushies at the moment, they're my obsession. I know where you can buy the Baby and Darigan brushes, though...werewolfsfury said:i have mine still but i can never find any paintbrushes do you have any?
Yep, that's the name of itEcstaticObsessive said:Growing up. Happens to us all. You and me are the same, I just stuck to the really simple games and racked up masses of Neopoints to buy plushies. I play games like Fallout and Elder Scrolls occasionally, but my heart is with online flash games.wilson_ty said:I used to have a blue wolf, and I played for a while every day. I thought, "Play games to get virtual money so I can upgrade a pet of my choosing? Who thought of this?!". Some of the games were a little beyond me, but I played the simple ones and earned lots of money, but the items had a huge gap that went from $500 to $500000 for some uber banana. As the years moved on, I discovered games like Counter-Strike, and Garry's Mod (I got Gmod 9 a little before Gmod 10, and was very happy to see the improvements. I love TTT now ), and moved on to other games. Now I'm playing games like Recettear, The Witcher 2, and Borderlands GOTY (well, those are the last three games I bought, two of which from the Steam sales, the other was on a whim).
And sounds like you had a Lupe c:
