My first thought about a game that I want to be removed from existence is Devil may cry 4. My second thought is to slap you in the bollocks for reminding me of it.

I know this will be controversial, but...Skyrim. The fact that it sold so colossally well has, I think, cemented in Bethesda's mind that it's OK to release what is essentially an unfinished, glitch ridden game. I mean, some of the bugs on the PS3 were game-breaking, imploding save files and the like. When they patched it, the patch introduced even more bugs. Now they're doing timed dlc, so the 360 gets it first, the PC only gets it later, and so far, the PS3 hasn't got it at all. It's ridiculous, and the game gets perfect tens from reviewers and millions of sales. I get that it's a massive, engrossing experience. However, it's incomplete, no matter how you look at it, especially on the PS3, and the timed/exclusive DLC just makes it even worse. I don't think it's a bad game, but I think it's popularity and acclaim are giving Bethesda the wrong message, that these sorts of practices are OK, which they most definitely are not.

Am I the only one who feels that removing Call of Duty 4 wouldn't have stopped a generation of stupid games? There would have been something else for people to latch on to and create stupid knock offs, like Guitar Hero for example.

Or maybe I didn't read the forums thoroughly enough to find something like this.

OT: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD. I fucking hate that game with a passion. One of the few purchases I utterly regret and despise paying money for.

I'm going to be 'that guy' and say nothing. Removing a game from existence just because I didn't like it is incredibly selfish. I'm sure there are plenty of people who enjoyed whatever game it is that you want to remove, you'd be stealing that from them too.

..that said, I do have to wonder what this past year would have been like without all the Mass Effect 3 threads.
This. Also, there is always something to be learned from every game, even if it is just a list on how not to do it. If you take that away you are limiting the material that those who want to make games in the future will use to both inspire and refine their own ideas.

Guitar Hero it is definitely one of the worst games ever created.
Hey now, I personally enjoy myself some nice guitar hero-ing. Not so much the later ones, but I love the second one! If you wanna hit off bad party games, toss Mario Party! Or Crash Bash!

WoW. It tears at your very soul and leaves you a brain-dead husk incapable of any thought or action besides the game. Your life revolves around WoW instead of WoW revolving around your life. You can deny that the game isn't addictive or harmful, but then you're just sounding like the many drug addicts out there who deny the poison that has worked its way inside their bodies. It turned some of my best friends into overweight, depressed, antisocial zombies and has literally ruined the lives of many more. The world would be a noticeably better place without WoW.
If I could remove every MMORPG, I would. Because of the way their profit models work, their goal is to suck up as much of your time as possible. My brother dropped out of college because he played too much EQ1. He just went back, though. I'm so happy for him. And jealous that he understands calculus so much better than me.

EDIT: Just for clarity, back to *college*.

It would take almost no effort on anyones part to make Other M never have happened, so I won't pick that one.

I'd pick Final Fantasy 7. I'm pretty sure that has always been, and will always be my default answer to this question. Every little 1 and 0 that comprises its existence is one I would delete like that guy towards the end of Death Note.

I'm sure their would be unforeseeable consequences if FF7 were never made, but if one of them were that 8,9,10,12,and 13 were never made either then I'd be more than okay with that.

My hatred for FF7 is so thick, not only could you pour it on pancakes, you could fill in pot wholes in the road with it and reinforce concrete as well.

This also extends to Dirge of Cerberus, Advent Children, etc.

Luckily it hasn't diminished my appreciation for clouds, and huge tits.

I'd go with half-life because it is an objectively good game that I don't care for therefore shouldn't exist.

Now replace half-life with something like Halo, FF, ME3, or CoD and it would be just as equally stupid but now cater to the majority Escapist fanboy mindset.

What was the point of this thread again?

And when I say "existence", I mean it. It will never have existed. That's the only rule. It can't be replaced or redone. It never existed, and it never will. So if it's a sequel in a series, you are leaving that series with an incomplete story. It will never be completed. If it's been used as inspiration or even for its engine by other future games, those games as you know them will also cease to exist.

Whether it's due to all the suffering you went through playing it or the damage you feel it has done to the gaming industry, somehow this game's removal will do more good in your mind.

Think hard, you're changing history here.
This one. This is the game I'd remove from existence. :p

Pokemon Black and White.

Should this game cease to exist, we will not have Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, and Game Freak will actually have to try and make a game that is as good and memorable as the last four Gens.

Ohhhh I've got one that'll really piss people off.....

Final Fantasy 9. If they cut the series off at 8 by never making a 9, none of the games made after 9 would exist either.

***** all you want, but do the math and you'll KNOW I'd be right to rid the world of every FF after 8. :p

And really, I would have said 8, but I let that give that one a pass as just being the START of the downhill slide for the series. My only real complaints are that the junction system made it ridiculously easy, and that pretty much every character in the game was an over-acting emo. The card game was fun, though, once you get a handle on the ridiculously complex rules...or just make it so that the entire world only plays by the rules you like.

I would have said 7 just so it'd rid the world of a lot of fanboys/fangirls. >:3
Oh god, a world with out Final Fantasy 9 would be a terrible world for me :(

Guitar Hero. It made rhythm games boring for a very long time. I can play real guitar. I don't give a shit about fake plastic guitars. It also put up a barrier between me and my friends at the time because I couldn't play it well and they could. Also, by taking out Guitar Hero, Rock Band goes too.

People, I need your help. Below are the two games I want out of existence but I can't decide and I need you to help me pick. Now:

Hyperdimension Neptunia or
Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2

Make one heads or tails and flip a coin. As soon as the coin flies into the air, in a split second, you will know which one you want it to land on.

Always works for me.

inb4 ET Ata- oh who the hell am I kidding, I bet half the posts in this thread have that.

Hm.

I would have to say the first Call of Duty.

Because if there wasn't a first one, there wouldn't have been all of the following horrible sequels and what have you.

I'm going to say Halo. A removal like that would send MASSIVE ripples through time. I wonder if gaming would be as main stream as it is now if it wasn't for Halo.

Surprisingly, no. I'm not even sure it's been mentioned. Call of Duty has actually been in the lead thus far.

CoD: Modern Warfare.

The granddaddy of Brown, Smudgy, Realistic, Boring military shooters that spawned a generation of stupid braggarts obsessed with trick shots and kill streaks. Eliminate that, and about half of the last decade's production ceases to exist.

For which I would be *eternally* grateful.
