I couldn't read it all. Too much stupidity in one place makes my brain hurt. I'm pretty sure this is the woman who would watch Scrubs and say the the creator was sexist because Elliot breaks down all the time and Carla takes orders from men all the time as a nurse. The same woman who 'studied' Mass Effect when it first came out and said it was teaching women to hate women because of a 'sex' scene. If you look hard enough, you can find controversy anywhere you look, dumbass (referring to her). I could point out hundreds of points of 'racism' or 'sexism' or any ism's in any media with ease if I wanted while any sane person would just roll their eyes at that kind of thing.

Sorry, happy thoughts, happy thoughts... at least Firefly was a good show, regardless of the people who decide to look too much into simple things.
This was responding a post where a woman was talking about how Firefly was a sexist show due to stupid things that made no sense.

I signed up because of the film festival in '09, but forum-wise I didn't actually post anything until March. I don't ramble as much now, thank god.

I would define the difference between creepy and scary as creepy having all the hallmarks of scary without actually making you scared. That being said, while I love both FEARs nether of them were really scary. They were both certainly creepy, as they had some great 'jump' moments and some fantastic atmosphere, but I was far more interested in the story and combat then the scares.

Games just don't seem to ever scare me I guess. Dead Space? Same as above. Condemned demo? Actually kind of meh (Though that may just be the demo). Silent Hill Shattered Memories? The nightmare sections were so totally broken it removed all horror and replaced it with a burning desire to do unspeakable things to the developers. Even the abso-fraking-lutely fantastic Silent Hill 2 was sadder then it was scary.

The closest I've ever come to being scared by a game was that one abandoned lab in STALKER-SoC. It's pitch black down there, and your surrounded by animal noises so that you have no idea if there's actually something waiting around each corner too eat your face off, especially since you die so easily anyways.

Oh, and hiding from guys in Penumbra. Now THAT'S an amazing horror series.

My favorite tracks are from the following games: Painkiller, Neverwinter Nights, Oblivion, Morrowind, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto series, Fallout series, Super Mario Bros.

Why? Because they all sound epic.
To a 'which games have the most memorable music' thread.

Since then, I should add Modern Warfare series, Arcanum, HOM&M3, Deus Ex.

That was back in February 2009. When looking at a few older posts, you can see my grammar evolve in the time I've been here.

FireRed was my all-time favourite, until I got Emerald for my birthday back in 2006. I played that game even after Diamond and Peral came out. I played Emerald non-stop, playing for hours even after beating the Elite Four and scouring every inch of the map. I never failed to have fun. When I got SoulSilver, I loved that game just as much and realized that as much as I love Hoenn, I wanted to continue my adventure. So I brought all my Emerald Pokemon to SoulSilver to continue my epic quest. Yes, I really get into Pokemon. :D

Switzerland. Apparently, most all bridges leading out of the country (through mountain passes) are rigged to blow if necissary; Almost every home has a gun cabinet and/or bomb shelter by law; And if all else fails, they have a sweet air force. Another country on my passport wishlist.
This was for a thread on the most zombie apocalypse proof country we knew. Switzerland does work well, though you might be better of in Sealand...

Between a tail and a pair of wings, it would be wings no contest. As for any animal trait, I'd probably have to go with enhanced night vision just because it wouldn't be such a nuisance to see where I'm going when it's pitch black.
I still have to wonder why this thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.194848-Wings-or-a-Tail?page=1] was the first one that I commented on but my comment still holds true today.

Yeah when I first played l4d1, and was walking down the hallway/staircase I was like, "Oh shit, there's zombies", and then started yelling at the AI for making me go down first. But then that is the only example I can remember, not the only immersive game I've played recently. Oh well.

Trying to work up the courage for Amnesia, looks really good...

Edit: Oh yeah, Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, and the X16/18 labs.

Edit of the Edit: How could i forget?! Duty Calls, of course. That game had such a good story line, and really made me feel like an American soldier in a real life war scenario.
Last time I felt immersed in a game, was the topic. I've come a long way, what with finishing Amnesia and all now. Good times.

First post, so please bear with me.

I've been lurking on this site for the last few months, reading the articles and getting a feel for the forums, and this topic seems to come up quite often. I'm old enough to remember the average used game costing between five and fifteen dollars, which also makes me old enough to remember something about the way games were priced back then; the price almost always dropped low enough that a new copy was competitive with a used one. Up until Gamestop bought out EB games, and gained a virtual monopoly over the used market, used games were cheap enough to make buying new right when they came out a bad idea unless you had the money and couldn't wait. However, I bought almost as many new games at the time as I did used, because publishers actually tried to compete with used prices.

Now, I don't mean that the prices for brand new games were significantly different -- actually, they've been pretty constant for at least twelve or thirteen years -- but even as recently as 2003 or so, games would be re-released in a heavily discounted form about a year after the initial release, assuming they did well enough to warrant it. I remember buying AAA PC games for $10 brand new, and PS1 and PS2 games for $15-20. Today, thanks to Gamestop's monopoly, and corporate greed on the whole, we no longer get these kinds of discounts. This is the real reason games are too expensive these days; there is no real competition from used games, and as a result, no reason to significantly cut the price over time.

TL;DR

Games are expensive now because without true competition from used games, the publishers no longer have any reason to cut prices.
Yeah, I have literally been hammering this crap since my first post. At least you can't accuse me of being inconsistent.

Edit: Oh, and the thread was titled "Are games too expensive?"

This topic keeps growing so I would like to expand on things already said. America is big, really really big. We have states bigger than a lot of countries. Each state has a different sales tax, and that sales tax is constantly changing. I live in California, sales tax central. But, not only is there a state sales tax but there are also city sales tax which like the states tax is constantly changing. Our stores consist of basically chain stores and that's it because no one else can compete. It would be a ridiculous amount of time and effort to update the changing price of city and state tax everytime it changes. In America when we buy something we'll usually have more cash than we need already, or if it's a big purchase most of us will use a credit card.

Can you imagine trying to find something obscure in one of these huge stores when 90% of the employees are going around fixing the number. The company is also lowering the costs on older products making more things to change.

tl;dr America is big, tax is always changing, silly to always update the price.
Someone was wondering why the USA doesn't include the tax in its marked price.

On a thread about how to make console controls better

I think my hands have held console controllers so long that they are completely ruined for any other activity. I remember wanting to learn how to play guitar, but nooooooooooo, my stupid hands were confused as hell.

Hands: "What?! No buttons! strings? what the hell is this!
Good times, good times.
