Considering how republicans lead the games are destroying our youth bandwagon, I find the hypocrisy of using games hilarious.
It's really about equal. The Family Entertainment Protection Act, for example, was introduced by Senator Hillary Clinton, and co-sponsored by Senators Joe Lieberman, Tim Johnson and Evan Bayh, all democrats.
pretty much what I was going to say

it may be Republican Pundits badmouthing games on the radio/tv

but in the actual courtroom, it's almost always the democrats leading the charge. Not to mention Tipper Gore, that saucy fox married to that internet spawning, global warming propagating robot.

However, most of those Dems are inclined to support the ESRB (even Joe Lieberman, who I saw as the Jack Thompson of my childhood for some reason).. so I don't mind.

If this works out, you know the Dems are going to copy it. Both sides emulate each other and both of them are shit. I will never understand why most people are loyal to either side, they both just want your vote then forget about you.

Obvious pandering is obvious.

This is the same bunch that will villify video games the moment someone under the age of 25 does something horrible or contain the slightest homosexual undertones. (see: Mass Effect 1)

I don't give the Dems a pass either on this. I chalk it up to: "Old people don't understand".

the amount of fail in the above comments make me want to puke. Not all republicans are "Vid'ya game" hating windbags. Only the loud annoying ones on TV are. Grow the fuck up and learn some tolerance.

Agree 100%, but most people would rather go by what others say than to actually research the topic themselves.

It's good to see them constantly retarding themselves.
It is, isn't it? :)
There is something satisfyingly anarchical about the ineptitude with which government attempts to earn votes.

Yeah, cause apparently research is too hard. Its far easier to just live your life with a sense of smug superiority because you perceive yourself better than the straw man you have created as your ideological opponent.

My point exactly.

I honestly hope you're not trying to support one party or the other with that statement, because both sides always view themselves as right, and the other as wrong. Neither side truly understands the other, so both sides become mere straw men to the other. Seriosuly, research doesn't prove anything either. There are so many biased sources out there for either side you could come up with a whatever facts you wanted.

The two parties might be ideologically different, but functionally they're the same. Both sides are for "family values", both sides have had countless sexual escapades outside of their marriages. Basically all politicians are hypocrits, and if you think YOUR party isn't, and the others is, then you'd be wrong.

it's cool, but to me it's like they want every young adult to instantly believe that politicians from the GOP actually enjoy games and play them casually from time to time. lol politicians have absolutely no time to play games. Their job is almost non-stop and games would be extremely hard to fit into their already tight schedules. Seriously, just about every politician that lived through the beginning stages of videogames probably never played them because they were so focused on getting an extremely hard and demanding job, and videogames to them were just a distraction. If the GOP actually had people who played video games as a personal hobby maybe then this whole thing could be taken more seriously, plus the feel of an old GOP member sitting next to you playing MW2 wouldn't be so awkward. So yeah for this to work in anyway, it needs to be executed better as the article has said.

Ok, first off it looks like I'm the only republican on The Escapist. Secondly, I'm kind of in favor of this. It used to be that supporting the games industry or even viewing it as more than toys that children play with would turn you into a political pariah. Games have received a lot of political fire from both parties, and sometime from the 3rd parties aswell. Even if this is a ham-handed way to approach it, but this is kind of an olive branch here. I'm not saying that politics and gaming will go on to live happily ever after, but it's a start.
