Request to avid anime viewers.

Just a question for you guys. I've watched a fair bit of anime, but I think I've hit an invisible wall as I'm finding it harder and harder to find an anime that suits my tastes. I know this has happened a many a time in this forums, a guy asking "recommend me an anime" so there's a question at the bottom unrelated to the topic at hand.

anime I've seen and liked.

Tenjou Tenge, Hellsing (non ova), Bleach (before it sucked), Code Geass, Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist (non ova) Soul Eater (ending made me cry... because it was so bad.) Air Gear, Black Lagoon, Cowboy Bebop (if my avatar wasn't obvious enough), Elfen Lied, Tengen Toppa Gurenn Lagann, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Katekyo Hitman Reborn (I stopped watching when they included the future or some crap), Neon Genesis Envengellion, Samurai Champloo, Samurai 7, Trigun, Zombie Loan, and many many others that I just can't recall.


If you're a fan of anime, and have seen a bunch you should get the theme of the animes I mentioned. Story, Mindfuck, action. Preferably all mixed together (good example, Code Geass).


Now for those who were looking for a discussion adding question: What the heck was the deal with Neon Genesis Evengellions ending? Did that make any sense what so ever? The segue between episode 23 or so to the episode 25-26 was so painful that the whiplash caused thunderous echoes across the world. Did he just go crazy or what?

Oh-ho-hoh, you're asking for an explanation for NGE? Give me a second to find my answer to that...

Spoiler: On NGE

The reason why NGE gets so weird in its' final episodes is because Gainax completely ran out of money. They were struggling to the end to make each episode and by the time they got to episode 25, they had completely run out. They had other things planned but couldn't go through with them so they focused on Shinji's state of mind. If you haven't already, I suggest watching the movie End of Evangelion. This movie is the true final episodes and makes much more sense than the original ending.

Also, I figured out what the ending and what some of the symbolization of the anime means. Put into further spoilers as it obviously contains still more...

Spoiler: Major NGE spoilers

Ok, upon staring at a picture of DNA I realized it looked a lot like the Lance of Longinus. Since The Lance is often coiled up but has been shown to have the ability to uncoil itself I took it that The Lance represents DNA.
Now, Eva 01 has been mentioned to have become a god after Ep. 19 because she consumed the S2 organ, allowing her an infinite power supply. I've decided that this means Eva 01 is now, quite literally, a God.

Now when The Lance penetrates Eva 01's S2 organ while in it's Berserk mode and with wings, this can be symbolized as sperm penetrating the egg; The Lance being DNA injecting itself into the S2 Organ which is the womb or egg. This then turns Eva 01, who is a God, into the Tree of Life from which all life comes from. Instrumentality then begins and everyone on Earth is returned to the primordial ooze ("Tang".)

Afterwards, Shinji decides to reject Instrumentality ( Possibly meaning he rejected Evolution) and so Eva 01 stops Instrumentality. Eva 01 then drifts away from Earth with The Lance of Longinus unraveled. This can symbolize God drifting away from Earth (I've often said "Even if there is a God, He's nowhere near us now".)

So Eva 01(God) drifts away from Earth leaving only Shinji and Asuka alive on an island surrounded by blood. One Male and one Female; Adam and Eve. The first 2 humans are left to create the human race anew.

And finally, with that in mind the very title of the anime makes sense.

As I thought, the word 'Neon' comes from the Greek neo which means 'new'. Genesis means creation or birth and given the above theory, Evangelion is (more or less) interchangeable with 'God'. As such, the title can mean 'God's New Creation', thus fortifying my theory. God created life anew, to start over from the beginning.

As for Reccomendations...

Yu Yu Hakusho is a terrific anime, think DBZ but the fights don't take forever and they actually think how to win.

Welcome to the NHK was a terrific anime, funny but also a bit deep.

Evangelion Ep 25 and 26 are really hard to understand yea. Their main purpose is for Shinji to eventually come to the understanding that he doesn't need to pilot an Eva for his life to have meaning.

Then there's the ep 25 and 26 from the movie end of evangelion... thats even more messed up.

G Gundam is a really great Action BOOM BOOM Anime with some Decent story and great Characters.

Rurouni Kenshin is AMAZING(the manga at least) The anime is decent as well mixing story, romance, comedy, action, and history all into one unbelievably good package.

Paranoia Agent is a really great Mind F and Fooly Cooly is a great comedic Mind F that deals with some dark themes.
I know iv seen more that fit your taste but of course as soon as someone asks me about them i forget.

Seen it, I disliked it as the romantic tones didn't exactly fit my fancy. I'm not a huge romance kind of guy. I think I got up to the episode where the main girl is some sort of information key thing.

Honestly, it's best not to think too hard about the events of NGE, he writer was seriously starting to lose it by the end of the series.

Otherwise a complete wild card: Azumanga Daioh. Completely different to what's on your list, but I loved it.

Ghost in the shell - Stand alone complex, and Ghost in the shell 2nd gig are both amazing, you have to see them. Otherwise, that is pretty much a who's who of whats good in anime. Good to see elfin lied on there. Excellent choice!
