Git' the shotgun.
iirc, its in one of the houses.

Or play a better game. That game was crappy compared to the almighty Ratchet: Deadlocked.

I'm a regular gamer, as in play every day. Unfortunately I only have the ps2, working on getting a 360 but in the meantime I borrowed Resident Evil 4 from a friend to keep me busy.

Anyway, I only just started, I'm in the village ( 1st main level where loads of dudes come at you) and I keep dying and getting owned. Now before everyone says I just suck, I own at all my other games, gta san andreas Need for Speed etc etc but I just cant get the hang of RE4. The controls feel wonky and I just seem to panic.

Is there any advice for just helping me get my game on? Or am I just doomed to suck at it?

All Comments are appreciated, thank you

I can only suggest playing it with a friend who owned it. Ask them to watch you play and have them tell you what you are doing wrong. Also, practice running like a *****. Sounds cheap, but it works dammit.

Go into the house next to the barn on your right when you enter the village. In that house is a Mettle door, use the knife to cut off the lock and go inside. When the villager are pounding on the door double tap the open button and Leon will kick the door open, sending the villagers next to the door flying. Repeat over and over again, when waiting for the door to close use your gun. If you become overwhelmed run past the villagers and stand outside. When the crowd fallows you out go back into the room.

Its a good strategy for beginners because it involves little actual contact with the villagers. Or you could do it the hard way and learn how to fight them head on, you'll have to learn eventually.

Run forward, spawn them, and run back to the door. Some spawn in your path though. Finish them off quickly. Run out of ammo? Run to the house with the ladder, which has a shotgun. Knock over ladder, barrigade door. You can also just run to the tower and knife anyone climbing the ladder before they attack.

The tactic I used was stand beside the bed with my back to the wall. I used the pistol on the regulars (wasn't a fan of knifing) until the good DR showed and lit him up with the shottie. I found running around usually got me the "you are dead" screen

If you get overwelmed at anypoint run to a ladder and climb like a *****.

When the hordes come after you they will do so one at a time up the ladder.

Stand at the top and knife them in the head before they get to the top and chow down on you, they will fall and take extra damage in the process (I think) and eventually you can take them all down without using a single bullet.

Beware that there isn't two ladders (if there is knock one over) or any zombies on the platform you have climbed to.

Also later if I remember rightly a few of the mothers can jump very high, but that's not for a while yet.

go into the house with the shotgun, but do NOT pick it up, that will fuck your shit up.

Only pick up the shotgun after the dudes have left, picking up the shotgun seems like a good idea, but it just makes the enemies pick up the ante including introducing you to the dude with the chainsaw who is a ***** to kill.

The cheapest way is to blast a small hole in the cabin door, and stab through the hole with your knife when enemies try to peek through it.

After the cutscene rememember to look for all the available items.

Um the games you listed that you are good at are very different from this game..... Try to stay in the house and grabbing the shotgun on the second floor. When being attacked, don't panic. You can easily take out almost any of the standard zombies. When the guy with the chain saw appears, keep moving and shooting. If he catches up to you, chances are it will be a one hit kill. Good Luck

What are you talking about? The game didn't receive great scores for nothing!

The village area was definitely the most memorable area, for me at least.

The same goes for Resident Evil 5, I loved the villages at the start, but then it started turning into "generic metal lab #552".

Of course... then there was that volcano >_>.
Yeah, the village was really what RE4 was all about. During the castle, at least you could suplex the monks, which is one of my most favouritest things ever in a videogame. The military island was just meh.

I understand that its hard to keep your cool when the guy with the chainsaw, and sack over his face shows up. (cringes) But i think the easiest way to do that part is to not go into the house that summons him at all. What i did was back myself into a corner and try to take them out that way. It becomes alot easier once you get the hand-cannon!

There's a house to the right of the burning officer. Go inside, close the door, and there should be a dresser to the right of the door. Push it in front of the door and shoot a small hole into the door where the ganado's head would be and when they come after you just shoot them in the head. If they manage to break the door turn around and kick open the metal door behind you. DON'T shoot the lock, kick it open. It saves bullets and the more bullets you have the better. Go to the end of the room and shoot them when they come through the door. It that doesn't work run for the shotgun, but only use that as a last resort.

Just simply stand at the entrance of the village and wait for them in that narrow corridor. When they are coming just pop their heads and if theres a crowd use grenades

Read the instruction manual is vital. A friend of mine played through about 3/4 of the game, and kept dying. It was until 3/4 through the game that she found out that you could run. :/ Reading helps.

Edit: My strategy in this area is run into the house where the shotgun is held. Collect all the the items in the house. Jump through the window so you are on the roof. From the window, turn right, and follow around the house till you get to the end, where there is a small steeple. That's where I make my stand. Just shoot for the face, and kick them down. And use your knife whenever you can; it saves you a lot of ammo. I hope you enjoy this game. I have it on ps2, and am seriously considering getting it for the Gamecube. It truly is a great game.

This is my strategy and it works like a charm
well when you go into the house don't bother barricading, go straight upstairs, grab teh shotty, grab teh 'nade, get any other item in that house and jump through the window which is to the left of the 'nade. then go to the left around the side and follow it until the end, you should see a gem, pick it up, back up to the edge of the house and just stand there shooting.
If you get overwhelmed shoot their legs and they will usually fall off the side. since its on a timer i suggest the shooting in the legs. but if you want to take your chances with the kill shots and get the useful items they drop then do it. When the Chainsaw guy gets to you wait until hes almost within hit range of you. then shoot him once in the head. Then while hes down keep firing until he is dead. Get the large amount of money he drops and then just stay there

This is probably the game I've played most, out of all my games. It never gets old to me.

I know some recommend not going into the two story house to prevent Dr. Salvador (chainsaw dude) from spawning. However, I don't think that's a good idea, because he drops a good amount of money, which will be valuable later in the game.

Anyway, head into the two story house on the left as you approach, but don't bother attacking anyone yet. After the cut scene, immediately push the dresser toward the door to buy you some time as you collect the handgun ammo opposite the two barrels behind the stairs. Don't bother breaking the barrels now, they just have money. After you survive this encounter, you'll have as much time as you need to thoroughly search the area.

Head upstairs and grab the shotgun and the grenade in the dresser. Use your knife to break the glass (you should use it to break barrels, boxes, locks, etc., as it saves ammo). Now run toward the bed and grab the shotgun shells, then knock down the ladder for good measure. Head back and jump through the window that is by the dresser where you got the grenade. Head toward the chimney and grab more handgun ammo. Head back and go around the corner by the ladder outside. Follow it around until you're on the roof by the spinel. Make your stand here.

I find using the handgun sufficient until Dr. Salvador comes. If you get a head shot on a villager, immediately run up and hit the button to kick. It will take down anyone around you and is very powerful. If you shoot them in the legs to get them to kneel down, you can do a different type of kick. When you begin to get overwhelmed, use the shotgun, but make sure not to use it until your enemies are close or someone is about to throw a sickle. The shotgun (until tuned up all the way) is not very effective at a distance. Remember to switch back to the handgun when you don't need the shotgun. You should try to remember to switch weapons as often as needed. Keep in mind that handgun ammo is the most plentiful when you try to weigh which ammo you'd rather spend.

The key in this game is trying to find spots where they can't surround and inundate you from all sides. You can't always do this, but make sure you keep moving if you see you're about to get surrounded.

Sounds like we've found the problem. Use a grenade when they cluster up and try to stick to the outskirts. If you go in the house where the shotgun is you spawn a chainsaw wielder, so I recommend against it. Legs are a great place to aim.

Good luck with the first boss.
