Can someone get the OP a cookie and a glass of milk so he can take a nap and end this nonsense?
Seconded.

Him calling other people stupid and their ideals retarded, then going on to spout the same sheer and utter blind hate that he criticizes isn't going to inspire anybody to have a revelation or change their mind.

You forgot the targeting reticle which was designed by a chicken with Parkinson's desease.
Wait, targeting reticle? In a post-4 RE game? What? I loved the laser pointers, man. And the inventory system in 4. And the Red9.

But more on-topic: I felt that 4 was much better than 5, and that bringing back Umbrella was the dumbest decision Capcom made until RE: Revelations. Revelations being one of those games that compares best to a cheesy movie like From Dusk Till Dawn. It's utterly ludicrous, but you can't stop watching it because you want to see what stupid thing happens next.
I heard you can actually change that godawful reticle in RE6 to the lovable laserpoint.

RE4 isolated itself from the "lore" of the franchise which allowed it to create a new world. Plus it was the first RE game that was very tongue-in-cheek about its characters and story, which made them so damn enjoyable despite making no flipping sense. RE5 on the other hand goes right back to dragging that fucking Wesker/Umbrella boulder and playing it totally straight in the process.

No...I will hate the game for changing the formula. Because the new formula is shit. If I wanted to play COD, I'd play COD.

It would be ok if there was actually something to replace it but like the Dragon Age games everything is just heading towards some sort of action shooter homogenised event horizon.

Thank fuck for Kickstarter.

I just know that I didn't like RE5, and since I only ever played 4, I don't care about any of the character's storylines.
Simple as that.

Can someone please tell me what all these CoD comparisons are about? Or is that just the buzz word to use when talking about your dislike for this game?

Having now watched a complete runthrough of the game, I intend on buying it. While I still feel they made the formula a bit more accessible, it still has all the charms of the previous games - the insanely funny pseudo-serious moments (Leon's thumbs-up, Chris on the slide in the playground, ZOMBIE T-REX), a good mix of gameplay, a ton of content and a lot of replayability in Agent Hunt and Mercenaries.

I don't know why people are knocking it - the only thing I see is that it's so jam-packed that it can't be played through in one sitting. You have to devote two or three days to beating it, because it's just nonstop action all the way through.

For me, it has nothing to do with the game being more action oriented. What I object to is removing features that were better in previous games. Obviously this is my opinion, but the Attache Case system of RE4, the upgrade/merchant system, the stand alone story, and more stuff that I can't be bothered to write down, were innovation over the previous games. Taking away and dumbing down these features isn't progression or innovation, it's bastardization.

That's not mentioning the fact that writing, characters, and atmosphere has also been slowly seeping away from the series. I'm playing through RE6 with a friend (he bought it, might as well) and the best part of the game is the riffability...that says something.

Buzzword. Although it's usually used for games that go FPS. Gears is used for TPS.

Yeah I've seen the Gears word tossed around too and that's confused me too. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it Gears that adopted the over the shoulder third person view that was made popular by Resident Evil 4?

(Assuming of course that that's what people are talking about with the Gears comparison)

The same reason people knocked on amnesia. The style or the horror felt like crap to them. "Why cant i fight back? Wheres guns!? WHY AM I RUNNING SO MUCH THIS FUCKING SUCKS". There are some people who cant honestly enjoy a game if it has violated what they hold dear and close to their hearts. To someone though who has no emotional ties or even history with the franchise, its super easy to dive in and have fun. (also, no hate towards amnesia, i fucking love that game)

I just finished Leon's campaign and started Chris' in RE6. So far, I am really enjoying it. Sure, there are flaws- I can't think of any game I have ever played that didn't have several.

I've completed all of Leon's campaign and most of Chris'. I say, with confidence, most complaints are greatly exaggerated. There is nothing wrong with the core game play or story. Even "modern blights" like regenerating health are not game breaking. What actually knocks this game down is the technical issues and other small details. Especially the camera. Cheap attacks can happen with that awful camera.

Not sure I could call myself a true fan of the Resident Evil series. I loved Resident Evil 4, that was a great game, having a great atmosphere, puzzles, places to explore. 5 was ok - It doesn't stand out like its predecessor, I don't think co-op or AI partners were a necessary addition, nor retaining quick-time events from RE4, which don't add anything except frantic button mashing.

It's was tempting to hate RE6, but it looks ok, nothing to throw a hissy fit about. It looks like an improvement on 5 in some aspects. If you don't like it, don't play it, survival horror games are ten a penny these days.

I haven't given it a chance yet and probably won't until its cheap. I didn't really like Resident Evil 5 but that's mainly because I exploited the Hell out of it (playing level 1 and 2 dozens of times so as to get the best weapons and a million bullets). I don't mind an action game dressed as a horror game but come on, the older Resi games did try at horror even if you, the OP, have grown callused and hardened to it at this point. Resi 1 being a haunted house, filled with monsters and giant bugs (also a Shark I think), Resi 2 being more or less the same only you're in a city this time and, Resi 3 being about a giant man stalking you and never, ever dying except for that one time at the end.

I think the biggest problem people are having with this installment is how similar it is to other games, franchises, etc that it doesn't feel like Resident Evil anything at this point (expect maybe the movies). It's kind of hard to adjust your expectations to that kind of thing.

I don't hate the game, I just don't think it's worth the full price of sixty bucks right now. I can look past the story and all that jazz. If Capcom wants to make a pure solid action game then that's fine, just it has to be fun. The thing that kills it for me are the over abundance of poorly implemented QTE's and the technical hiccups that result in death through no fault of the player because the game still feels glitchy. So my disputes with the game are only on a technical level.

Despite that though I'd still check this game out if it were 20 or 30 bucks.

I just don't like the forced co-op, having an ai partner kinda kills the mood and everything, that's why Dead Space 3 is still interesting to me.

I'm having fun with RE6, granted that was after bumping it down to amateur for Leon's campain (started with Chris on normal)so I can just powa sliiiiide! Two pistol bang! Bang! Action Jackson my way through the game. It's way more fun than it sounds.

I got a tool tip that said Amateur difficulty automatically completes QTEs for you. Does that include things like counter attacks? Because if so...you could probably just like stand completely still and auto-win most fights.

Edit: Also, after completing all four campaigns, you can buy infinite ammo for guns (Although they're expensive, you have to buy it for each gun separately, and it takes up a skill slot), but infinite ammo dual Wingshooter is hilariously awesome.

I also don't get all the hate, I think it's just a fad, since people are done bitching about Mass Effect 3's ending and Borderlands 2's difficulty, the next target is that a game has evolved over time. If RE4-6 were identical to 1-3 they'd be bitching about how "the games getting old and give us something new". It's inevitable that whining will occur.

I'll agree that this game is a huge tangent from previous entries, but stand-alone its fantastic, I'm only on the 5th chapter of Leon's campaign and I haven't even touched the other ones and already I'm wowed by it, so if people are complaining about the difference from previous entries, then yes you're right, but you can't say it's a bad game overall.
