So the cut scenes are really hard to watch because it will hurt your eyes, otherwise I actually like the story, though one plot twist can be seen a mile coming. I had a lot of fun with it. Several set pieces were dare I say fantastic.

Aye, I thought the campaign's plot was a lot more interesting and clever than MW2's, and I liked the way they did the whole "most of the game levels are flashbacks whilst he's being interrogated". It tried to do something different.

If Black Ops is shit for just not being the same as every other FPS, then I'd prefer more games to be as shit as Black Ops.

The flashing can make your eyes hurt a little (that stopped for me once I actually put my damn glasses on though :p), but yea, I thought several bits of it were amazing.

Haters gonna hate, I guess.

It's sad, I love the escapist, but people take these reviews as if they're only right. I think their shouldn't be perfessonal reviews anymore for any game, only user reviews.

No offense, but seriously, people read this and then say "well this guy says it sucks, so it must suck." Without ever even trying it. People should try games for themselves, not just going off the opinion of others.

I am not saying this review is right or wrong, its someones opinion and I don't want to change that, I just hate when reviewer's opinions are taken above anyone elses.
And user reviews would be different...how, exactly? Assuming, of course, people paid any attention to them, which is all folks are doing here. They're reading the review, and deciding for themselves whether or not they still want to get the game. Paying attention to a professional reviewer and paying attention to an amateur one is no different.

Strangely enough I quite enjoyed the story.
Then again Im one of the odd people who likes piecing odd crap like that together.

It's definately not perfect, I'll agree with that.
I guess it's just my cup of tea.

I finished it today and I somewhat disagree with the review. The story is better then any of the previous games so far(except MW), though it does feel like they were stealing one of the central plot points from Bad Company 2. The only bad voice acting is Sam Worthington's, who at times forgets that Alex Mason isn't Australian and the voice crew didn't feel like making him rerecord the flubbed lines.

I'll give him the Pentagon bit, which feels very restrictive in that it doesn't even let you control the characters walking.

My other complaint is that the SR-71 mission feels kinda gimicky, because you basically play an abbrivated RTS for about 5 minutes.

The game itself is fun though and it has some cool bits. The setpieces aren't quite as good but it is still over the top at times, particulary at the end, when it feels very, very james bondish.

The secret mission, the Pentagon zombies bit is sheer awesome, though.

I respectfully disagree. ok, graphics could've been better, but who cares. I liked the story, it made me scratch my head and go '... the fuck?' at first, but at the end it kinda came together. yes, the flashes are annoying as hell. it as kinda freaky though, something no CoD game has tried before. and yes, the pentagon scene did take a bit too long, but i didn't mind following other characters around that much, it helped build the suspense and i don't want the whole world exploding around me all the damn time anyway. as for the terrible writing and voice acting, I didn't really notice it. I do think they ripped modern warfare 1 and 2 way too much...
the cargoship level was so modern warfarey that i almost expected it to be a prelude to cod4, and the submarine base level seemed very similar in places to both the oil rig and the war room levels. and when will they stop that nuke launching crap? we've done it three times now, enough is enough.
but the vehicle sections were awesome, nothing like going downriver blowing stuff up with a boat full of rockets to the sound of sympathy for the devil :D
the multiplayer seems fun too, though I'm only at level 4 or something, so I can't really comment on that yet.
maybe i'm too easily satisfied, but i had fun with it, so I'm not gonna let you get to me ^_^
EDIT: the patriotism could've been scaled back a little at the end though.
glorious battleships with american flags flapping in the wind, while a squadron of jetfighters flies overhead as you climb aboard, being congratulated for saving America from certain commie doom...
I know it goes along with the cold war theme guys, but can i get a bucket please?

Black Ops isn't anything special, but really, it isn't that bad. Bad isn't really the right word anyway, it's meh. There's nothing broken really, it just doesn't bring much to the table of FPS.

But I am glad someone finally talked about the constant flashing, jesus, that shit is just irritating.

So it is basically MGS4?
Um, I don't know where you got this notion from, this game is so far from MGS4 you might as well be playing Mario.

Opinions seem pretty varied on this game. It's my personal favorite of the CoD campaigns by a long shot. I thought the story was interesting and the settings varied and cool. Couple that with the presentation and I thought it was a winner.

To each their own eh?

maybe they woudn't be any better. It's hard to say, but Reviewers unlike User Reviewers are much more well known. So likely less to be heard, which obvious would then it would take in consideration whether or not their would be need for any reviews.

I just think that, people take review's and I myself am guilty of this sometimes, that I take a reviewers opinion for truth and that if they say a game sucks it must suck. I do this often with certain types of games. Though lately I have been trying to form my own opinions.

Now the main reason why I get angry at sometimes reviews, is not becuase of what their opinion is, if they hate a game or like it, thats their opinion (well duh. XD), but sometimes people don't form their own opinions. They look at these and agree with it just becuase they wish to agree with it instead of trying out it for them selves.

a review could say "well this game is really bad" but then the player decides to go out and try it for themselves and discoveres that they like it. I think more people should do that. I write my own reviews at times aswell, I plan to write one for Black Ops and possibly Arcania: Gothic 4. Though even reviewing these, I hope people learn more about the game and then try it for themselves.

No mention of the tie in of the previous story. No glimpse of the multiplayer. Well done. Good thing I go off of this guy's reviews for all of my game purchases.

Really the story is told more interestingly than most. The multiplayer is more customizable than most shooters.

The game isn't bad.

I got and completed black ops on launch day and I wholeheartedly agree. Recent COD games are in their element when you're playing the game and explosions are going off around you, not just watching them and listening to people prattle on about them. However, my biggest issue with the single player is that there are too many moments when you're knocked off your feet. All too frequently your character is knocked over and they have to reach for a gun, etc which seriously affects the flow of the game. Treyarch just seemed to be overusing the best bits from the modern warfare campaigns hoping to capture what made them so good (for example, the ending on the bridge in MW and the gun). This single player campaign just re-emphasised the fact that Treyarch will always be the other COD developer.

Also, if you're meant to be playing the memories of one character why the hell does it jump to Hudson for one mission! Maybe Treyarch realised that their own characters were so uninteresting that they had to change the focus in orer to draw attention away from it.

Fortunately I didn't buy Black Ops for the single player and I only really played through it to get a handle on the controls before I took it online.

IDK, I rarely trust reviews if they are too positive about a game, and if their too negative as well. Well, already pre-ordered it, now just waiting for it to get here. Plus, I played through MW2 campaign, nothing can be worse than that...

I like it enough, it's more like a playable movie really. I am mainly in it to play MP.

THAT was what I (A PC gamer) was waiting on.

Now, I am just waiting on a fix so it plays properly.

Obviously, you didn't read properly because the multiplayer review is still forthcoming.
