If you're a console gamer, you will love this game. Don't get confused with PC gamers they are pissed for certain reasons and will over exaggerate how bad they think the game is.
We're pissed because we're not used to wallowing in shit like console gamers are and IW are trying to force us to.
Thus far, I've only seen one honest review of Modern Warfare 2, and it's from Ars Technica.

i agree with you on the riot shield TONS of fun i also noticed you using blast shield which helps a lot while using riot shield also i say BUMP when i hit people with said shield for comical effect
the throwing knife which was what i was looking forward too, is in fact extremly fun and sastifying to use.
i find the multiplayer overall balanced
still havent touched the campaign
anyways i actually need to get this game right now im just bumming it off my friend
Hey why is this site the only site I go on that can't accept that Modern Warfare 2 is just plain ol' fucking good. You guys are comparing this to some magical uber game that just does not exist. instead of complaining about how this isn't jesus in game form let's compare it to modern shooters like Far Cry 2 or Army of 2, ya know the mediocre games that make up the majority of the genre. this is like hating a guitarist because he doesn't compare to jimi hendrix.
Honestly shut the hell up. If you like it, fine, good for you. I'm fucking happy for you. But don't sit there on your high horse sneering at people who have a goddamned legitimate reason to pissed. M'kay?
you have no right to tell me to get off my "high horse".
from what ive heard, pc gamers are trying to convince the world that a game is awful if their experience is slightly further from perfection, as if they now best. but this isnt a "high horse"?
and a "legitimate reason"? grow up. you can still play your game, and its still a great game. console players very rarely get dedicated servers, and they can live without complaining.
and did you have a point to say, or was a string of swears good enough for you?

this man obviously knows nothing of gaming. i mean, its not like he contributes to online gaming magazines
please give us permission to burn him at the stake, oh wondorous masters?
Most PC gamers are just trying to inform other PC gamers that MW 2 , despite being a good game , lacks what is usually common place for a CoD title, and most FPS MP games... the ability to join dedicated servers.
I would of been happy with this review if it had actually mentioned that... thats all I wanted.
Am I wrong in stating that the major reviews of MW 2 dont even mention that ommission ?
(Escapist, Gamespot, Gametrailers, etc.)
Theres no reason why the Console community needs to take great pleasure in what is effectively a downgrade for PC gamers, dedicated servers didnt effect the Console gamer in any negitive manner.
Ah, well IW's loss ... the community I frequent was all keen on adding MW 2 servers, discussing what type of server it should be, max players etc etc, now that server will probably go to hosting some IWs rivals game instead.
Thanks IW, I am happy with my purchase of Dragons Age : Origins... took the hassle of choosing away from me.
Well, sucks to be you then? I'll just go back and play some Quake on a dedicated server, lagfree, like I did the last 13 years.
Oh, and btw: why don't you ditch all luxury? After all, living in mudhuts was good enough for our ancestors back in 6000 BC, and you didn't hear them bitching, do you?
I stopped reading your review after seeing that the second paragraph is nothing but spoilers. I think you may have ruined a very pleasant surprise in telling me that there's a level where you defend a fast food restaurant. Sure, it's not a plot-oriented spoiler, but I'm pretty sure the developers would have wanted a fast food restaurant in that game to be a cheeky surprise.
I won't go into the other settings you described and how they may or may not ruin the actual plotline...
How come you said the dedi servers were a none-issue in the MP video when even EDGE who gave this a 9 multiplatform had a huge disclaimer about how poor the PC MP side of things was in their review?
Hey, thanks Russ for spoiling one of the best in game moments ever for me with your opening footage. It's much appreciated when you say there will be so many in game moments you will never experience in any other game...then proceed to show them in your review. Nice work.
Well.... yea, all war is bad, and all the armies and soldiers and weapons in the world are just necessary evils. I thought that was common sense by now.
My problem with the single player was the overall message that seemed to be found in it. In CoD4, the message was war is terrible and it sucks that good people have to fight and die to protect us all. But in MW2, the message seemed to be all war is bad so therefore all who partake in it are bad as well. I, for one, found the last level more disturbing than the terrorist one.
The single-player campaign in this game whimpered under the legend that its predecessor created.
MW1 didn't just deliver a story, it delivered ideas. One: warfare has changed. It's not about delivering huge amounts of firepower as quickly as possible; it's about stealth, precision, and knowing more than your opponent. Two: the average guy doesn't know anything about what our soldiers face, and we owe them our gratitude for their service. Three: nuclear power, if abused, is a terrifying thing.
And it communicated them all through "holy ****" moments. Everyone can remember the first mission in MW1; they can remember the AC-130 gunship "rail shooter". They can remember the nuke, Pripyat, and the absurdly lopsided firefights towards the end of the game.
So, yeah, while MW2 certainly communicates the devastation caused by warfare... it's just hard to have an emotional response to it. You want to communicate the idea that warfare is bad? Have civilians get caught up in an urban battle. Finding out that your own shots accidentally killed civilians would more of an emotional impact than the shooting gallery that this game is.
I look forward to the next game in the series: Call of Duty XIV: Modern Combat IIX: Adventures in Generic War Shooters VI: Lord of the Shades of Brown.
Now that is an unfair statement. It takes what has been done before and makes it better while adding so much stuff that has never been done. Its far from generic.
It's a perfectly valid statement. This game is yet another generic brown war shooter. And before the end of the year will be another generic brown war shooter.
i for one and surprised that FOX news didn't have the footage of the terrorist opening fire on the unarmed civilians in line... but then again, they were not really one to do a lot of research with what they go after.
AS opposed to oversimplified garbage that is Console games to make it more "accessible" to all.
Demon Souls had it right from the making of console games perspective.
Complexity makes it more interesting in a way but should not be overdone for obvious reasons.
Also consider what you're reading on the bus ride, lift home. The Manual It fills in some story between the games, or helps layout the story/setting for the new game.
