An oger stops an adventurer on the road and sais: If you tell me a lie I shall chop off your head! But if you tell me a truth I shall strangle you with my hands!

What can the adventurer say to escape the situation?
"You will chop off my head."

I'm lying.
He can say nothing, that seems obvious, and much better than a false/truth paradox. That could just leave you strangled, and then beheaded.

Thirty white horses on a red hill.
First they champ.
Then they stamp.
Then they stand still.

A man leaps off of the roof of an eleven story building. He takes a running start and when he leaves the roof, he is traveling at 3.2m/s.

How long does it take him to reach the ground?
The rest of his life.
DING DING!

We gave that to my Physics teacher in high school. He took the whole hour and a half of class writing it out. Bell rang, we told him the answer. Free day of class!
Your physics teacher clearly doesn't know his A-level physics then.

I've got one:

What is greater than God, more evil than the Devil? The poor have it and the rich need it? If you eat it, you will die?

Also, you had better know this one:

This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.

What is it?
First one is Nothing. Nothing at all.
Second one is Time. Clearly somebodies read The Hobbit.

A man lies face down, dead, and naked in an open field. In his hand he holds a straw. In the distance there are high voltage power lines. How did he die?
The man was part of group traveling by hot air balloon. They started to lose altitude and had to avoid the power lines so they threw off their clothes first to lose weight. After that failed, they drew straws to see who had to jump off, and he had the short straw.

My art teacher has tons of these.

In a room with only 2 exits are two guards, of which one will always tell the truth, and one will always lie, and you do not know which is which. One exit leads to certain death, the other to freedom. You may ask ONE guard ONE question. What do you ask to guarantee your freedom?
But if you ask only one of them about the doors then you still have a 50% chance of living. If you ask a question to find out whether they lie or not, you've still got no help on the doors. You need more questions.

And this should probably have gone in Forum Games.
There is a way to make sure they both answer the same. It depends on the truthful one telling you a lie also.

You would ask "which way would the other guy go" - Or something like that... I think

Yeah, that must have been a middle school teacher or something. Either that or he spent a long time finding out exactly how high an eleven story building is.

Yeah, that must have been a middle school teacher or something. Either that or he spent a long time finding out exactly how high an eleven story building is.
But... an hour and a half?

Look:

I just measured the floor I'm on to be almost exactly 10 feet.

10 * 11 = 110 feet = 33.5 metres

So:

[li]Initial speed (u) = 0ms[sup]-1[/sup][/li]
[li]Acceleration (a) = 9.8ms[sup]-2[/sup][/li]
[li]Displacement (s) = 33.5m[/li]
[li]We're trying to find time (t) in seconds[/li]

s = ut + [sup]1[/sup]/[sub]2[/sub]at[sup]2[/sup]

So:
33.5 = (0)t - [sup]1[/sup]/[sub]2[/sub](9.8)t[sup]2[/sup]
33.5 = 4.9t[sup]2[/sup]
6.84 = t[sup]2[/sup]
2.61 = t

There we have it. 2.61 seconds. [a href="http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=Time+to+fall+33.5m"]Wolfram Alpha agrees[/a]

I expect you knew that, but I wanted to have a go anyway :p

The letter "E". It's already been done in this thread I think. A good riddle nonetheless!

Since no one seemed to try my other one, here's another!

There was a man who was walking. There was heavy rain and it was very muddy. The man looks back to see his footprints, but they aren't there. Why?

Why is a Raven like a writing desk?
Accepted answer: There's a "b" in both and an "n" in neither.

More Answers:

They both start with an "r" sound.

They both can have feathers (Quills for the desk).

Damned if I know.
