Pc gaming will not die as long there are customers willing to pay for pc games. Market forces mean that where there is demand supply follows.

People have been saying that since the 80s. It's not going anywhere.
Exactly, the accusation is becoming obnoxious at this point every fanboi retard since the NES has claimed the death of PC gaming. Oddly enough not once has it even put a ***** in it.

Biggest advantages of the PC: Anybody with a little know how can start programming a video game for the PC and - even more important - I can enter a ten year old CD into my PC and start the game. Try this with your PS1 games.
You can play ps1 on the ps3 .
As can the pc, hi hi emulators.
True but the ps3 does it right of the box running better than it did on the ps1. Emulators are sometimes laggy or low res. But if you got a really good one yeah. I have seen some emulators have problems running nes games.
Unless they've seriously changed this, only the original 60GB and 20GB PS3's were backwards compatible out of the box. The next editions, the 80GB and 60GB ones that came out after the originals, were backwards compatible with some games, but only after you downloaded some software emulation that actually took up space on the harddrive of the PS3. For any models that came out after that, you were shit out of luck. So, really, this point is kind of moot, methinks.

It's all a matter of personal preference. PC gaming won't ever die because the market is still big enough to keep it afloat almost indefinitely. The statistics are always skewed, because almost everyone owns a PC, and almost everyone owns at least one game to be played on said computer. However, in this day and age, almost everyone who considers themself a "gamer" also has a console. In that respect, the statistics for gaming platforms are always skewed, because people always qualify in more than one column, even if you're only doing console vs. PC.

I, personally, have all three of the new-gen consoles and a gaming PC, but my preference is, and always will be, PC gaming. It just feels better for me. And that's what it comes down to. There are just as many people who prefer the feel of gaming on a PC to that of gaming on a console, and they keep the market afloat.

On top of this, all technology developers have been adding functional capabilities to their products to run with PC's. What I mean to say is that stuff like TV's and stereos have been becoming increasingly functional with PC's. You can hook your PC up to your 56" TV now, and run the sound into your 12.1 surround sound system, grab a wireless keyboard and mouse (or controller, if you prefer), sit on your couch and play away. The reason that consoles have excelled so much for so long is because, until recently, this wasn't possible with a PC. But it is, and the technology is continuing to advance.

In the long run, consoles will most likely become obsolete long before PC's, mostly because the only reason people enjoy them as much as they do is because they enjoy the casual, living-room play style that accompanies them. But if the PC can do that too, and you already own a PC for other reasons, why not combine it all onto one machine and save yourself a good chunk of change? If it's the controller issue that throws people off, as I said before, you can run a PC game using a controller, so that's a non-issue. Really, there's no excuse to play a game on a console instead of on a PC, unless the game isn't available. And that is an issue that is continually being addressed more and more with each passing year.

Long story short? PC gaming won't die, it perpetually evolves and adapts, much better than consoles can.

If pcs die, I stop gaming. I am not giving in to buying one of their expensive boxes that they call consoles. Seeing that developers never miss out on an extra buck, I'd say that hell would freeze before this happens. "runs off to check on hell"

I say good riddance. PC gamers think they're better than everyone else.
*FAIL*

That's because we are XD
But in all seriousness, the gaming market goes in cycles, some years the PC will have all the sexy exclusives, and sometimes those dirty console tards get their new halo or whatever.

Exactly. The one reason why the PC will never slow down, and never die. However, the simple fact that consoles are slightly more accessible means that the PC will never have room to grow much either (as a gaming platform; PC's are still light years ahead in terms of use in real life for businesses and stuff)

PC gaming isn't gonna die any time soon.

Seeing how the only games worth getting are on PC because of the enldess slurry of shitty console games.

I wish I could agree since I love mods but how many companies actually release SDK?

valve...
bethesda...
who else?
Epic Games as well. Those are really the best engines on the market anyway... who cares about other SDKs.
hmm why have I never heard of any epic games mods.

I remember there was a pretty big mod community for kotor but don't think bioware usually release sdk, they should!

do the developers always need to release an SDK to enable people to mod?

You forget that Epic Games created Unreal Tournament and the Unreal engine long before they came out with Gears of War. And people use the Unreal engine for almost everything.

And, to answer your question, they don't, but it really makes things easier.

You know, I love my consoles and many of the games are very good..
But quite honestly, RTS and FPS to me require mouse and keyboard. Yes the Halos and Killzone's work just fine, but it'll never be as good as it could have been with my mouse and keyboard.
This is why so few games try to bridge PC and Console users in multiplayer... because everyone knows that if Playstation Live or XBLive players got onto call of duty servers with PC gamers, they'd get owned to within an inch of their gaming lives.

PC gaming isn't going anywhere. The fact is, PC games still turn a profit, as long as there is money in it, developers will be making games and money off the market.

Someone above said that "PC gamers can't keep upgrading indefinitely" and I laugh at them. Firstly, That is exactly what I have been doing since my 8088 about 24 years ago, hell that is what every single person or business who has used computers has been doing for 3 decades now. Second, the price of PCs is falling while the price of consoles are rising. Since a PC can be used for so many other things, Everyone NEEDS a PC these days for work or school but no one NEEDS a console because they are only used for entertainment.

Lets also not forget that PC gaming is simply better in every way. Most games ported to consoles are too easy (eg. play L4D on the 360 and then play on the PC and realize what a challenge really is, none of that wussy auto-aim crap in FPS on a console) The graphics are better, keyboard and mouse beats the best of controllers, Mods/User created content make most games so much better and are FREE, and there are a bunch of games that can only be played with a keyboard/mouse.

In about ten years there will be a PC in the living room that is PC, BD player and recorder and console in one device. When XP is slowly phasing out game producers can start focusing on DX10 and DX11 so this makes programming easier. More and more games will have an online component which makes piracy less important. And when they finally find a way to standardize PC gaming power (i.e. your PC fulfills the Power Gaming 2008 criteria and the box says "Requires a Power Gaming 2007 PC or higher") momentum will swing back. Consoles will try to fight back by adding office and calendar functions and the systems will finally merge.

As of now the PS3 CANNOT play any Ps2 or PS1 games because thyve scrapped backwards compatibility to ease costs on the consumer.Go Go PC!
