"Transformers Prime" raised the bar for Transformers-based stories, and yes, Orci and Kurtzman were involved. However, according to Wikipedia they only had Executive Producer and "Developed for Television By" credits, and didn't seem to be involved with the actual writing. (As opposed to the Bay movies where they had screenplay credits.)
Personal opinions on him aside, it's possible that with Orci NOT penning the story, maybe it won't be too bad. Perhaps his strength lies in other parts of production.
