So yeah..... its a thing. I honestly was rendered speechless, and not in a good way. This movie could turn out good or bad, but its beyond that for me. I have my opinions, so what about you.

I think it's in the same boat as, say, Total Recall.

The original was fine and still holds up. There's really no reason to reboot it, except as a guaranteed "moderate success" by Hollywood. Every person who sees it will say, at best, "It was okay, but I prefer the original."

I might watch it when it ends up on Netflix or in the bargain DVD bin, but probably not.

hmm, At first I thought it was a Deus Ex: Human revolution movie trailer.

All that was needed was for Robocop to say "I didn't ask for this"

Eh, it looks alright, much better than I thought it would from early pictures of the filming, but still it doesn't feel anything like Robocop.

The black painted robocop looks stupid, but I feel like it's supposed to. From the trailer it looked like in the movie they still have the original silver robocop design, and that they retool it somewhere around the midpoint of the movie and make him all black and "tactical" as a gimmick to make him more appealing to investors. So the fact that it looks terrible could be a self aware reference to how stupid these reboots are, or I could be too hopeful and it's really just nothing. Either way, "tactical black" robocop still looks terrible.

Other than that, it looks like the movie is playing things way too straight, and it doesn't seem like it's as dark as the original robocop. The original had this darkly cynical sense of humor about it that really made it interesting and unique for it's time, and that's what really made the movie fun. I don't see any of that here, although this could just be because it's a trailer.

Anyway, doesn't look amazing, but it looks decent enough that I'll probably give it a watch at my local dollar theater. Who knows, it might end up being a pleasant surprise, like the new Judge Dredd.

Robocop. Man, now there's something that I no longer understand now that I'm not a kid. I mean, sure! Back in the day, he was the absolute coolest. But then again, I also liked Battletoads at that age, so it's pretty clear what a terrible judge I was.

Eh. Probably a decent popcorn movie.

Ah, so it's about a cold calculating organization taking something long dead and trying to artificially to bring it back to life; giving us a theoretically superior version while at the same time stripping away most of the original's humanity turning it into something barely reminiscent of what we used to know.

Wait... what were we...? nevermind.

Uh... MAN VS MACHINE! FREE WILL VS NO WILL! LAW VS JUSTICE! Uh... That last one sounds TOO familiar... Hmmm...

Anyway, I got nothing to say for this kind of reboot... Despite multiple viewings of the original, I just got nothing to say to this AT ALL...

Although, I did giggle when that one guy said "Make it black" or something along those lines... That was the turning point where I first started to have nothing to say about this reboot...

Of course they've rebooted Robocop, you can't expect Hollywood to have original ideas can you?!

That being said... looks alright I guess...

The first one is still a brilliant film. Check out some of the trivia about it, about what the director was going for.
It's a lot deeper than it initially appears.
Ever hear people use the term "robot jesus"?
That's where it comes from.

Actually I didn't mind that trailer, tactical black looks dumb, but the Robosuit actually looks pretty good. I don't like his voice at the end though, the extra robotic autotuneiness just sounds weird.

hmm i dunno it might be good. But part of the reasons why i found Robocop good was the over the top violence and themes of corporatism and how it influenced the police public sector. And is that influence a good thing. Also the conflict of who does he really serve, the corporation that build him or the police that he on loan to. Afterall he can't arrest any OCP employee from what i remember.

Nailed it.

My personal feelings are that there are no bad ideas for reboots, only bad execution. You could approach the concepts in Robocop in a different way; the original is a good film but it's by no means perfect. If someone wants to approach it from a different angle then go for it, after all, that was the process that gave us Batman Begins and Dredd.

This... does not look like it will be one of those films.

This seems like a reboot that's been done to tick boxes; didn't know until recently that the costume designer from Iron Man was attached but suddenly it all makes a lot more sense, it's people putting safe things in a safe property with a safe plan - just like Total Recall (which I still regard as a big missed opportunity).

It looks alright I suppose. ED-209 looks pretty cool.

Having said that: where's Mr Kinney's 'demonstration'? Where's the main theme (Hoping it wasn't that generic collection of BWONG noises)? What about officer Lewis? Clarence Boddicker?

Yeah I know "It's a Reboot" but still.

It looks better than I expected. Whether it's good remains to be seen. However, I am glad the tone and style is significantly different than the original. If you're going to reboot something, it might as well be different. It doesn't always work, like Total Recall, but if all it did was copy the original as closely as possible it's bound to fail anyway. Kind of like the remake of Psycho that came out years ago with Vince Vaughn. Now that's a movie I still ponder the existence of.

Better reaction than expected, they also coughed up for a credible cast too.
Still means nothing except they got a guy who can cut nice trailers and some familiar names.

Still dunno why they felt they needed to reboot Robocop (or the crow, outrageous imo), I watched the original not long ago and it still holds up perfectly well (better even since we now seem to be living in the world the move was making fun of).

I guess they just want to make some money and don't have any new ideas, nostalgia dollar is a good dollar (just ask Nintendo) but dudes, if culture begins to repeat itself this badly it's probably a sign of creative bankruptcy and eventually people will cease to be interested.

Nobody feels the need to replace the Mona Lisa with a "fresh, updated take" hm?

I remain the right to be somewhat optimistic.
The reboot doesn't look bad from what I have seen, I am not old enough to have nostalgia for the original and if we are being completely honest, the original was kinda cheesy as well.
If they manage to not overdo it with the "dark-and-gritty"-ness of the movie, I can see myself enjoying this.

When I first saw the the black Robocop I thought it was RoboCable and thought they were going to go with Robocop vs RoboCable in the movie which would be a different since RoboCable was never in a Hollywood big movie.

They might have had them both have as partners to start with, then Murphy goes human during during a critical event (Law vs OCP interests) whilst Cable stays robot, the OCP declare Murphy "bad" and they end up having Cable go after him.

But nope ... tactical black.

It is getting a bit sad, but cashing in on something with a name people are attached too is a safe way to try an make some money is my bet on their line of thinking.

Same boat here, looks okay so far, the original still holds up. But this could be okay as well. It seems to have all the core elements there.

There are lots of problems but I think there is one core issue.

If you are looking at a Paul Verhoeven film and your idea to reboot it is to make it look better, cooler, or especially more realistic, then you have completely missed the point.
