Someone go alert Colbert, he needs to know!

Well, at least they finally steered away from the "OH GOD WHAT IS THAT?!" type uncanny valley effect from an attempt at life-likeness.

I wouldn't want to wake up to that bear face staring at me. I would shit myself.

Is it just me, or does it look a bit like pedo bear?
That's the first thing I thought of when I saw it. Then again, the title of the article on Sankaku Complex was "RIBA:Robot Pedobear?. Also doesn't help that apparently, since it can only lift 61 kg, mostly children will be able to be carried...

Before everyone accuses Japan of being wierd, it might be expedient to remember that the US army has something very similar in development to help get soldiers out of warzones. They didn't want the robot to threaten the wounded soldiers it was carrying, so what did they do? Gave it the head of a bear...and it frankly looks a whole damn lot creepier and more cylon-like than the Japanese one! I still think it's a cool idea though.

That hardly looks like a teddy bear at all. Japan's bear is much better.

Oddly enough, that makes Japan's robot creepier. The army's robot is just a robot with a vague attempt at cuteness. Japan's bear has a happy face stuck on crushing arms and a pillar-like frame. It's like trying to put a happy face on the Juggernaut.

Here's a thought: in the future, will paraplegic grooms be able to rent robots to carry their brides over the threshold of their home?
