KotOR was my first real RPG, and it's a great introduction to the RPG world.

After she plays KotOR's 1 and 2 I suggest introducing her to some more hardcore games like Fallout 3 or Oblivion, but that may require a few Card updates.

Them mother fuckers suck you in and never let you escape.

I would say KOTOR as well. While FF X was my first real RPG, I had to be pushed at certain points because the game is so long. KOTOR is the right length and its nice as a girl to be able to be a girl.

Jade Empire might also be an option, if its on PC. I think its a bit simpler and a good mix of button mashing with RPG elements.

Not an RPG, but since the recommendation is meant for a new gamer and for an older PC, I'd have to go with The Longest Journey. Or indeed any older point-and-click adventure game (maybe Broken Sword?).

Start with Sims, then maybe some more puzzle driven stuff.

If you're set on an RPG, "Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords" is available on PC.

Well, nintendo abandoned RPG fans years ago in the N64 era and we have seen nary an rpg on any nintendo systems since, so wii users best be looking elsewhere for good rpgs (sole exception: tales of symphonia for the gamecube).

Lotta good suggestions, but if you want to give her good PC rpgs, look to fallout, baldurs gate 2 and icewind dale. If you can find it, Planescape: torment is a great title, but might go over her head. Morrowind is a solid choice as well, but you may never see her if you give her that game.

Fallout. I got my dad to sit down and watch me play, and that's a great stride.

I recently had my non-gamer GF play Dragon Age: Origins with me. She did the talky parts and I did the fighting. Sorta entertaining.

If you have a Wii and have some points, try the original Paper Mario for the N64. It's about 20 hours long, easy controls, and not a huge amount of micromanagement. Plus, it's Mario, who is a recognizable character.

If you never want to use your PC again, you can also try introducing her to The Sims.

You could try Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. That might be just the ticket plus you can tell her to play a Toreador so that it's like those pansy-arse sparklies from Twilight :p

Seriously though I love that game, just make sure you get the patch that restores all the original content they wanted to put in and fixes the majority of the bugs.

I would have to say KOTOR if you are going with PC, it has a nice story that is not complicated, it has a hack and slash/turn based combat system which that might be a little hard to get used to but I suggest it. and to me, KOTOR is the best RPG I have ever played. Or you can buy Super mario brothers 3 on the Wii network, I am pretty sure that as good a game as that will get her hooked.

Very true..

And I' glad that shes OK that you insulted her in the title of this thread. There really is a difference between noob and newb.
Let me explain for those of you who didnt grow up learing smart from the magic webs.
Noob - n. an insult to those gamers with little skill but those who have played for a longer time than those considered "beginner", Syn troll
Newb - n. One who is new to gaming and therefore with little skill Not primarily as an insult, but could possibly be extended there.

Please everyone take notice of the difference I really am tired of people either arguing whether one exists or those who don't know

Really Tho
OT: Yeah now-adays there are no real softcore RPGs. you can either dump her head long in a Fallout game, or possibly start out small. Like well, i have no idea, just not a RPG to start. Unless you can find a browser rpg.. that might work.

Mass Effect can be pretty good for newcomers with the simple (albeit mediocre) combat and the shiny cinematic conversations with woman-punching action, assuming it won't cause her PC to cough up and die.

WHAT THE FUCK AM I READING?[/quote]

Wow. Just, wow. Yes, wtf are we reading? gim73, please reconsider what you just said, because you should be smacked for throwing out Nintendo like that (I don't like blind bashing and hating)

EDIT: But this is only if she's actually interested in learning to game. Trying to force your girlfriend to change is generally a bad idea and one she will certainly not appreciate. If you are the the one pushing and not her asking, or if she's only doing this to make you happy or because she's afraid of losing you, I'd suggest you stop altogether. It'll most likely end with you losing her.

Just an extra bit of advice.
And this. Take his advice, please. If our nerd tendencies are taking priority over our gf's..... well, they shouldn't be. Good advice.

I'm sorry, you seem to have forgotten:
Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum
Pokemon Colosseum/Pokemon XD
THE FUCKING ABUNDANCE OF RPGs ON THE DS.

Damn.

I agree with this guy. Every girl likes the Sims.
