Yes they are. Activision has five developers making CoD now. I still struggle to come to terms with what you need 5 dev companies for in a single game. Also, because of the merger with Blizzard, Activision (as Activision-Blizzard) also owns WoW.

Im also beginning to wonder whats going on at Vivendi... before they turned Activison into a publisher they tried to devour as many successful IPR's and companies as possible.

Wait, True Crime Hong Kong was canceled? Seriously? That game looked really good. Activision needs to die, it is incredible how many dickish actions they take. That game was basically done, for fuck's sake.
And you're basing that comment on..... what, exactly? Clearly not data.

Speaking from first-hand knowledge, it wasn't 'basically done' - it was a long, long way from being done. It ran at about 2 frames per second, the missions were terrible, the story hadn't even been finalized (lots and lots AND LOTS of rewrites), the controls were horrible, all the VO actors had to be recast because they were hopeless, melee combat was tedious button-mashing, the animation was borderline comical, and so on. Driving was the only decent bit, really.

It got pushed back - again - to Septeber before it got canned and, trust me, had it come out you would have absolutely PANNED it. It was never going to be a good game, despite a lot of hard work from everyone involved - it was one of those misguided projects that had bad decisions made on the developer and the publisher side, over and over again. The blame does not solely lie on the shoulders of Activision, I'm afraid.

Canning it was the kindest thing to have done (and it should have been done a while ago) - do you really want to play a 60-rated very mediocre (at best) GTA-knockoff?

No, didn't think so.
LOOK at this demo. You telling me that doesn't look fun? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5L6aniAU2iE

Argh. If this happens, it will be the deathblow to mainstream games. I weep for Bioshok. And... yeah, only Bioshock.

It does look likely, so let us all look forward to THQ being the cool publisher from now on.

So I guess it was perfect to compete with GTA. HONK HONK HONK HONK

This would be a terrible disaster. Activision has already burned out all it's major franchises and the ones that haven't been cut loose are either tired and boring or teetering on the edge of life support.

Imagine the travesty Activision would bring on Borderlands! This cannot happen!

OK Activision. You want to buy Take Two and get control of GTA? Fine. Go ahead, I understand that you look at the bottom line, and the bottom line is it would earn you a shitload of cash.

But so help me God... if you manage to fuck up Rockstar and stop the stream of excellent games they release, games like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, Manhunt, Bully and The Warriors... I will not be held responsible for my actions. I swear it, screw this up and I will do things towards you I never thought I was capable of doing.

That is all.

Oh SH!T.

Not good at all, if this happens I bet their will be crappy sequels to GTA, and Bioshock released every year, (aka Call of Duty syndrome)

Who bets KoTICK wishes to go after Valve as well. (note this is currently impossible, for the moment)
Activision would never try to go after Valve. Valve would probably self-destruct before they joined up. Either that, or they'd release the full power of the Internet that they so ruthlessly wield to defeat Activision once and for all.

Goddamn, Valve's like a gaming superhero now.
I thought valve was already partnered up with EA.... wait waaah?

Fucking hell, by the time this generation ends, Activision will practically have a monopoly on the industry. This better not be true, Take-Two better have some balls and keep to themselves, they do not need Activision gobbling them up and then spitting them out 3 years later like most every other company they've done to.

Anyway, I hope this isn't true. Activision will ruin 2K. Seriously.
Activision has the publisher equivalent of a gardener's curse. All they go near withers and dies. Unless Blizzard has it.

I fucking hate Bobby Kotick.

Really? Fuck you activision, go purchase something useless instead, I have had enough with you already giving out a CoD game yearly, we need a yearly GTA now to? T.T"

Wasn't that before activision started killing their franchises? Who knows? Maybe they'll just buy, take in all the cash and leave it alone, or maybe not.

Borderlands: The Firepower pack! For Fifteen dollars, you can get ten exclusive new guns!

The irony would burn so hot the game disc would melt.

I am so very glad I don't touch those games ._. And no, I don't get why you need multiple companies to make a single game, unless it's some kind of soulless assembly machine thing. Then again, until I started learning about Valve and Bioware, I knew next to nothing on game companies/creation, so...

Blizzard was already massively successful before Activision came along.

Three years after Activision acquired them, Bizarre Creations [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bizarre_Creations] goes through the tubes. As well as RedOctane and BudCat [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Activision#Defunct] within four years and two years respectively. That's not mentioning driving the Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk franchises into the ground, until now Guitar Hero is gone [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107672-Activision-Pulls-the-Plug-on-Guitar-Hero-Franchise] and Tony Haw is a complete joke [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105375-New-Tony-Hawk-Suffers-Humiliating-Launch].

There are always a few people that defend Activision for their actions. Shamus says it well [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/experienced-points/8169-Experienced-Points-Age-of-Kotick], but to quote him directly; [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/experienced-points/8487-Experienced-Points-Dear-Santa.2]

"If lil' Bobby gets in a fight at school, you can say maybe the other kid started it. If Bobby gets in ten fights with ten different kids, and if Bobby is the biggest kid in the class, it's a pretty safe bet he's a bully, not the victim.

And by "lump of coal" I mean "asteroid." Again."

Fine, Activision is a business, we get that. The thing is, Activision isn't doing business well. VALVe, BioWare, EA, and everyone else, they're businesses and yet they don't seem to get in this much shit as much as Activision is doing.
