Those better just be rumors, because if they're real, there is going to be hell to pay.

Like I said from the earlier thread about this, reading the article I was linked to it looks more like Activision is trying to scrabble for some big titles following the dropping of Guitar Hero and push back for Tony Hawks. I know they're not exactly scrounging for handouts but a couple of big well known titles would reassert their dominance.

That said, it doesn't look like shareholders or in fact anyone who matters at Take two is taking it too seriously. They probably smell what Activision is shovelling and have a little more confidence in Take Two.

Not good at all, if this happens I bet their will be crappy sequels to GTA, and Bioshock released every year, (aka Call of Duty syndrome)

Who bets KoTICK wishes to go after Valve as well. (note this is currently impossible, for the moment)
Activision would never try to go after Valve. Valve would probably self-destruct before they joined up. Either that, or they'd release the full power of the Internet that they so ruthlessly wield to defeat Activision once and for all.

Goddamn, Valve's like a gaming superhero now.
I thought valve was already partnered up with EA.... wait waaah?
I thought that was just to help marketing/promotion of games.

Fine, Activision is a business, we get that. The thing is, Activision isn't doing business well[l/i]. VALVe, BioWare, EA, and everyone else, they're businesses and yet they don't seem to get in this much shit as much as Activision is doing.

Which is actually a legitimate argument against Activision, probably the first I've seen in the last 20 threads about it.

Take-Two is also quite successful. So why is there so much opposition to this again? Almost all of the anti-Activision sentiments don't seem to extend beyond "BOBBY KOTICK IS TEH DEVILZ, THEY RUIN EVERYTHING THEY TOUCH" etc. The same comments were brought up when Activision merged with Blizzard, yet Blizzard is still making insane amounts of money. If Take-Two wanted to sell itself to Activision, there is almost no doubt in my mind that they would go for a similar arrangement, so I just don't get the "OMG END OF TAKE-TWO, NO MOAR GOOD GAMEZ" idea.

You also mentioned EA. Anyone remember how well THAT publisher was received two years back? Then they re-invented themselves and a new party had to become the whipping boy. Sure, Activision has made plenty of bad decisions, and they deserve flack for them. But I don't see the point of actively demonizing them, especially when they do just as much good business as the bad.

Small typo, Activision at the end is spelled with an extra "i" in the middle. (Making it Activiison.)

"Money goes up. Quality goes down. Till IP is run to the ground."

It's the Activision mantra. I can agree that it's proven a worthy business model. However, most of us here are gamers, and not accountants, so to us, the whole "money goes up" is infinitely less relevant than "quality goes down". We don't care about a developer making cash if they're just gonna use it to make increasingly shittier games.

I really hope they don't. Activision will run 2K's IP's into the ground, and just cock things up for people who love 2K's games.

I doubt 2K's "quality first" mantra will go over well with Activisions "release everything every year fuck quality profits are only whats important"

Just... dammit.
Well, I'm hardly an Activision fanboy as you might notice from a lot of my rants, but I will say that greedy and stupid don't always go hand in hand. You'll notice Activision remained "hands off" with Blizzard and it's operations and that turned out quite well for games like "Starcraft 2" even if I have my personal bones to pick with that release (like only having one race's campaign), also "Diablo 3" is still highly anticipated, and the WoW expansions have hardly either been panned or crashed. In picking up another "quality first" developer I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility that they will also stay back.

The think you'd most have to worry about I think is the marketing in terms of things like DLC and how much game is produced at once, as opposed to the quality of what they put out.

Hmm, I did hear that something is going on at 2K. Like how they changed their fiscal year, that is normally illegal without special approval after demonstrating pertinent circumstances. Usually that is only limited to bringing fiscal year in sync with another parent company.

Holy fuck.

What is Activision's Fiscal year and is it the same as 2K's new fiscal year?!?!?

That would pretty much confirm it.

They are but at least EA gives their partners space to do there games unlike Activision who wants to control everything

To me, it's not so much Activision as it is the CEO himself. Or it could be the company itself I dunno.

I am already in a personal boycott against them. I refuse to purchase any products developed or published by Activision until they get their shit together. If you read the article Shamus did, you'd see that Activision is suing everyone else left and right, driving franchises into the ground, and generally being a dick. That is why I choose to not support them.

However, if you want to buy their products, go ahead, I won't stop you. If you enjoy their games, then there's nothing I can say that will change your mind. This may cause me to miss out on some genuinely good games (like DJ Hero, or so I'm told), but that is my loss. As much as I despise Activision/Kotick, I can't deny the impact their games have. Enjoy their games, I know I won't. I say that in the most sincere way possible.

On Take-Two, Blizzard was already successful before the merger and they're a complete entity, not a publisher. From what I understand, Activision (thankfully) stays out of their way. Essentially, the only thing that's changed with the merger is a longer name (Activision-Blizzard just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?). Buying out Take-Two will not be good in the long run as that is just eliminating the competition.

If Activision's acquiring of Take-Two ends up destroying one or two studios due to the merger, or if a studio or two closes down within, say, three years, I just want to say I fucking called it. Quote me on that, I swear to god...

On EA, they certainly have changed. They used to be the same as Activision, churning out sequel upon sequel of their games (and to an extent they still do, however not as severely and with more thought in said sequels). But they turned around, and now they're building relationships with their studios and trying to push the Art part of Electronic Arts.

Back the fuck off Activision. Though I may not be a fan of Take-Two, I will gladly admit that they are a good developer, something that you are not.

EA are just as bad, ruined Bioware.

I wish it was just M$ and Sony, sure it would just be all exclusive crap, but damn EA and activison piss me off more, I dont play many ubisoft games so yeah...

On the brightside, this may stop me buying new games and in my quest for more good games, try games I didnt get before, or use money I would have spent on older games I wanted but never got around to buying. Silver lining.

EA doesn't bother me as much as Activision does. Granted EA does do some back handed things, but at least EA is willing to try and make new IP's rather than take already existing ones and run them into the groung.

OT

I seriously hope this is only a rumor, Activision tends to destroy everything they touch.
