$20 a share? I have $20, can I buy one?
Yes, yes you can. I'll just escort you to the fire pla- I mean stock broker!

What if all gamers pitched in five bucks? Then we could take a massive vote on what to do with EA.

They exist solely to make money, this really cant be good...
I have to agree. EA is already the star example of the no-risk, franchise milking, creativity blocking, practices of the AAA industry, but they still at least have some (a very very small amount) idea of the games business.

Having them be bought out by an equity firm, I think we'd see all of that stuff I just mentioned, but more of it.

games worth playing become the focus of the company,
The naivety here is adorable. More like the safe bet, non-risk games are the focus of the company. And pretty much everyone on this site seems to hate those games.

For EA that means their sports games. The apparently hated Bioware games. Medal of Honor and Battlefield. A supposedly watered down Dead Space.

Note: These aren't my opinions. I still love Bioware's games, and buy the EA NHL game almost every year.

If it makes the acquisition any more sense, Providence Equity Partners is invested in ZeniMax Media... the parent company of Bethesda, id, and Arkane amongst others.
Though Gabe would probably convert all titles with 3's in them to stuff like Battlefield 2: Episode 2.

Oh, and Origin will probably be eaten by Steam, which is good I guess.
ZeniMax doesn't own Valve... not sure where you're getting that from.
Wait what? I didn't quote you. Sorry 'bout that, just ignore it.

This can either be really good.....or really bad.

In the best case scenario, EA goes under and their good franchises get bought by other big developpers. Mass Effect and Dragon Age get bought by Bethesda, Konami gets to make a soccer game with the FIFA license, Dead Space goes to Frictional (HA as if) etc. EA loses, the internet wins.

The worst case scenario, the good and the bad franchises get burried forever, used to buy off laywers or something.

right
well you see, LJN was a company that made games for NES and later SNES/Genesis
thing is, they only made licensed games
and they were AWFUL, oh man were they terrible
only salvageable thing of them was usually the music
and Maximum Carnage (Separation Anxiety I think was the alternate name)

To be fair, ea exists solely to make money also.
the only direction EA have to go is up or bankrupt. Either way, we win.

And EA's stocks have been on the rise?
For the love of...how in the hell is that happening? I thought everyone kind of agreed EA was shit. I've seriously never been so confused in my life.
When there is a rumor that a public company is about to get bought for more than its value, its stock price rises since there is a chance that in the future you can sell your shares for more than what they are worth today.

This is one of the reason the stock market is so fucked up. It's all about short-term, nothing to do with investing on the merits as capitalism was designed for.

I want Richard Garriott and Chris Roberts to buy EA, just to make a point. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_14/87-The-Conquest-of-Origin]

Are there any game companies that could actually afford to buy them?
It seems like the whole industry is pressed for cash.

It probably wouldn't be good if a company with absolutely no knowledge of making games were to purchase EA.
I don't think there would be any change in that department.

OT: It's probably not going to happen, at least not entirely. They will probably sell off half of their stock or something.

While I think that EA being bought out could be the very best thing to happen to the industry in years, I very much doubt it's going to happen. As we saw with Vivendi's tries with Activion a few weeks ago, it's pretty much never gonna happen. Too expensive, too risky. Unfortunately, big investment companies just don't have faith in the video game industry, and don't want to go near it. It's a blessing and a curse, I guess.

man if Valve bought EA...

..that would be pure awesome.
But then it would take them foreveerrrr to make Dragon Age 3.
After Dragon Age 2, is that really a bad thing?

And EA's stocks have been on the rise?
For the love of...how in the hell is that happening? I thought everyone kind of agreed EA was shit. I've seriously never been so confused in my life.
If there's rumors floating around of a $20/share buyout on the horizon the price will rise because people will be hoping to buy it at the dirt cheap price and then double their investment when it finally does get bought out. Trust me, any rise at this point has nothing to do with them being a good company.

EA Publishes a lot of those games, it doesn't develop them. Why would Bethesda get Mass Effect when BioWare can still work on them? Bethesda should be busy making Fallout 4
Cause if Bioware didn't need the money they wouldn't have sold out to EA. Zenimax or Bethesda would give them the money they needed to make great games like da:eek:, KotOR, BG, and Mass Effect(minus the ending).
Edit: OT: I really hope that EA gets bought out and then get drained and thrown away and then that person who bought them free the slaves(Bioware and anyone else like them).

Had a drugstore taken over by a more successful drugstore before. Thrift Drug bought out Eckerd, except that they made a deal that retained the title (Eckerd) and retained same management staff in said buy-out. As a result, same stupid store practices that ran it into the ground in the first place were still done.

It could happen here.
If they were being bought by another game publisher, I'd agree, but the rumor is that they're being snatched up by an equity firm
