I don't know, on one hand cutting off external game development seems like a bad idea, on the other LA might be picking up thier game....

Or they are making casual games from now on...

They're really milking it, if it's true.
Wait, what?
A game gets a third installment and that's milking it?
Like Final Fantasy? Assassin's Creed? Call of Duty? Metal of Honor? God of War? Half Life? Mass Effect (Set to be a trilogy)? Metal Gear? Forza? Gran Turismo? I could keep going here! Jak and Dexter? Killzone? Civilization? I mean seriously. Having a third installment isn't 'milking it'. That's crazy talk. You're crazy.
They're milking it because the first one sucked.

And it had a conclusive ending, but oh no wait - Starkiller had many clones created; it's cool.

And now a rumour news post claims that a third instalment has been cancelled, when the second hasn't even been released yet.

So if the first game sucked, and you seek to improve upon it with better mechanics, you're out of luck? Because that's milking it? And that's besides the point because the first one did not suck. I just picked it up the other day in preparation for number 2, and I'm having a blast with it. Subjective opinions are subjective. It sold over 6 million units across all platforms, and it's got mid-70s on Metacritic, so people obviously enjoyed it. It's not stellar, granted, but it's a solid game.

And it had a conclusive ending, but oh no wait - Starkiller had many clones created; it's cool.
I'll admit that clone thing is a bit odd, but we're also talking about a universe where a guy is shooting lightning from his hands and pulling down massive space-ships from space with magical powers. If I can suspend my disbelief over that, I can do it for the cloning story mechanic.

And now a rumour news post claims that a third instalment has been cancelled, when the second hasn't even been released yet.
What does that have to do with milking it?
That they were planning a 3rd already? Load of games do that.
Mass Effect, as an example, as always planned as a trilogy. So what?

What is it with people pulling out review scores and units sold values to try and prove that a game is good?

It doesn't look like they're trying to improve it, i.e. it still looks like an arcade hack-'n'-slash game.

We have to remember that this news post is a rumour.

Mass Effect 2 improved its features and removed annoying issues from the first game.

We have yet to see if The Force Unleashed II will eliminate the issues from the first game and actually try to be a good sequel, instead of cashing in on the success of the previous game.

I was a fool to buy the first game. At this rate, I will not be buying the second one.

How is 3 games milking it?

OT: This guys sounds like a dick. Why fire in-house staff if you're only going to be making in-house games?

And what will BioWare being doing with TOR? Will they be allowed to release Expansions and the like?

I already said to someone else: it's because the first sucked and the second one isn't even out.

No doubt they're developing DLC right now, to be released after the launch of the main game.

Because people speak with their wallets? Games that get panned by reviewers and actually suck don't sell well. This game sold well, and wasn't panned by reviewers. Which means, barring your personal opinion, the game is decent. You may not like it, but it sales and review scores say that your opinion is in a minority. That's why people bring it up.

And you're basing this of the spares number of trailers, rumour-style news posts, and that one clip of Kamino gameplay that's floating around? The only reason you know Mass Effect 2 made improvements is because you played it. You haven't played number 2, nobody has, so try to remain objective. It could be great. And, yes, it could suck, but I'm a 'glass half full' kind of guy. Plus I like the first one, so even if it's not much different, I'll be happy. And so will approximately 6 million other people!

Mass Effect 3 was actually being developed before the release of ME2, and lot's of games plan out sequels before they even start making the 1st game, so that argument is invalid. Something sucking is your own opinion, and quite a lot of people liked the game. So what if they're making DLC? Looking at your profile avatar I'm assuming you like the Matrix. Did they milk that franchise? Milking it is something like more Mario games because they're instant money makers.

Modern Warfare 2 sold 11.28 million units worldwide in 2009 and it got good reviews from critics.

It must be good, as a result!!

I am remaining objective.

I am assuming that the game I will play will be like the game I have seen in the gameplay video.

Your little rant at me became invalid when you started saying that my opinion sucked.

What a shame.

You don't get the DLC bit?

They might be producing content for a game that isn't out yet and they are going to charge you for it.

They can very easily put that content in the game for free, instead of trying to take even more money out of your wallet after buying their game.

I liked the first Matrix movie (why did you even bring this up?), the sequels sucked.

Well that's a poor example. I enjoy MW2.
So do a ton of people. It remains the most played game on XBL and (I think) PSN.
It's a good game. You might not like it, but 11.28 million sold, and a ton of high review scores can't be objectively wrong. Subjectively to you they might be wrong, but that's a moot point.

I am assuming that the game I will play will be like the game I have seen in the gameplay video.
The one you haven't played?
Only briefly seen played by someone else through low-quality cam-footage?
The one that's only about 5 minutes or so?
That one?

Just checking.

It's a good example because MW2 is an overhyped game that got the high amount of units sold and critical acclaim.

Applying your argument, it must be a great game!

I don't care if it's the most popular game on Xbox LIVE, popularity /=/ good game.

If we were to reverse your argument, then games like Penumbra suck because they didn't sell many units and reviews weren't that high.

I get so sick of people going "OMG, look at the statistics, look at how many units this game sold. It is an great game!!"

It wasn't low-quality cam-footage; it was direct-feed footage on GameSpot and I can't remember the length.

So if popularity, millions of people and tons of reviewers liking it, doesn't make a game good, then please tell me what does! I'm genuinely intrigued as to the missing piece of the puzzle I'm missing! I've never played Penumbra, so I can't comment there, but it got decent reviews! It's got a 78 on metacritic! It might not have sold well, but that in and of istelf doesn't mean it sucks. Some games are great, get great reviews, but don't sell. Look at Psychonauts! Great game, reviewers liked it...it didn't sell. Still a great game, though!

So what makes a game great, then?
Not the opinion of the majority, not the opinion of the professionals who are hired to review games...so what else is there?

They're going the casual route. Instead of Force Unleashed 3, it's Forceville. You train various padawans for a particular amount of time, then you kill them when they're ripe, earning you force points and midichlorians, which allows you to train more padawans. Also, it's going to be ported only to PC users...

...via Facebook.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Why would they kill their games that make a shit ton of money? TFU3 would make enough money to refill the corporate cocaine bucket...

Twice.

It's not the reviewers that make a game great.

It's not the number of units sold that make a game great.

It's whether you think it's great or not.

So stop feeding me figures and comments about the reviews, because those aren't good arguments for a game being great.

What happened to being objective?
This rhetoric doesn't hold water when dealing with millions of people.
And of course only you know if a game is great, but that only counts to you.
We aren't talking about you! We're talking in generalities.
I don't like Legend of Zelda, but I can't deny the games are great. Millions of people love them, and it's a long running, well-made franchise. Personal feelings aside, it's a great series. That's called being objective.

Sheesh.
