I suppose downsizing does kind of make sense as long as they do it right, how many people scream everytime something new about Star Wars is announced as we start another cycle of hope and disapointment. Maybe if they skale the ammount of games they release down they can make sure every single one is brilliant and also give us some completely original titles?

This probably isn't going to happen though and the only reason they're scaling back is to save money no doubt, I hope they do release a FU3, story wise it's the best thing to come out of the Star Wars francise in years.

But it really is too early to tell whats going to happen so take a deep breath and relax.
As far as not going for external developers anymore goes, can they really make anymore Lego games without repeating themselves? And most importantly how many external developers have gone bust making Battlefront 3? maybe their just tired of placing considerable assets on unsteady grounds and if they took their propertys in house they would have a lot more control and security over every game.

I hope Paul Meegan gets fired. Lego Star Wars is awesome.
Let's be honest though, where exactly can they take it now? Go through all the games so you end up with a game mocking games based on a movie that you've mocked previously?
Why not? The Lego games are fun. Besides they could change things. Make improvements to the Lego games over time.
Oh I do love the Lego games, and they'll still be fun, they just won't do Star Wars any more, they'll do the other Harry Potter films, etc.
I know. I just like the Star Wars ones the best.

I can see it now... The Force Unleashed 3 cancelled in favour of a Jar Jar Bink virtual pet game for the Kinect...

And I die a little inside.
No no no no no! People will LOVE it! It'll be the highest selling game to ever exist and be the only reason the Kinect and the Move were successful. Why? Because everyone's buying it to torture a virtual Jar Jar Binks. >:D Don't you see the potential of having a Jar Jar Binks whose very life and happiness rests in your hands? It's such potential for evil!

But yeah, if this rumor is true, someone in Lucasarts is an idiot. Your best games are being made by outside studios (KotOR, TOR, LSW, MI), so not working with them any more is just stupid. Moreover, as flawed as it was, TFU wasn't a bad game, and TFU2 looks like it might be better, so getting rid of parts of that team make no sense. And at least wait until AFTER the game comes out. I remember the stuff going on during Iron Man 2, when the studio that made the (albeit terrible) game was shut down before the game was even released. That was just a massive dick move. Seriously.

THEY WERE PLANNING A THIRD!!!???? We didn't even need a second one. They sure know how to milk the fucking franchise for all it's worth.... again.

As someone else pointed out up above, having three games in a series is not milking it. Were we at, say, five games in the series, and the mechanics had barely changed and they were starting to call it The Force Unleashed 2011, I'd agree with you.

George Lucas is all about the merchandising, do you really think he will let a potential cash cow like the Force Unleashed franchise die?
Depends how badly they intend on fuckin up the sequel. He might have seen what they were doing and said "yep 3 is a no go"

And they have to be released within a short time scale. No-one's accusing Firaxis of milking the Civ series, despite six games (if you count Revolution) by September and countless expansions.

And even then, that's no guarantee that they're "milking it." There's been nine Ratchet & Clank games released in the last eight years (two of them made by another studio, but they're in canon so they count), plus a tenth game coming out next year, and I certainly wouldn't accuse Insomniac of "milking" that franchise (others might, but each game is different from its predecessor and they mix it up to keep things interesting). And they've been working on the Resistance franchise, which has had two proper games and a side game since 2006 and has the third game next year.

Proper "milking it" is I think a combination of having to be released in a short time scale with very little innovation involved. Like the Guitar Hero series, I'd say we could argue that's being milked.

They're going the casual route. Instead of Force Unleashed 3, it's Forceville. You train various padawans for a particular amount of time, then you kill them when they're ripe, earning you force points and midichlorians, which allows you to train more padawans. Also, it's going to be ported only to PC users...

...via Facebook.
Haha win.

Well, for the first one I was disappointed to find out that you wouldn't be able to use the wiimote to hold the lightsaber at which point I lost interest in it. Making a third does kind of seem like milking, and I do hope they release something fresh...

Just not on facebook. The only worse possibility would be an X360 exclusive RTS.

it's not uncommon for people who are just put in charge of company or division to immediately go "how can we spend less money" even if that wasn't a problem to begin with. it's still a douche move, though developing part 3 of a game when part 2 isn't out yet is kinda dumb too and does nothing positive for the quality of the game.

i still want a new Tie Fighter title....heck i wouldn't even care if all the missions were the same as the first one and it just had a spanky new game engine and smooth graphics ect.

If the rumors are true, then LucasArts will presumably be focusing on internal development, but if that's the case, then letting staff go doesn't seem to make sense. It's possible that Meegan wants to release a smaller number of titles each year however, which theoretically would need fewer staff.
It makes perfect sense if those staff were a problem to Meegan. He's the new captain. He may be cleaning his deck. There are other people in the world who can make games for LucasArts, perhaps ones who aren't mourning over a project's corpse.

The second game isn't even out and they were already organizing the third, I considered it milking, especially since I've known a lot of people who disliked the first game. It just seems like they're rushing it along and there could be a lot more done with it, I'm a lifelong Star Wars fan and just don't like how it's been going lately.

I don't care about TFU because there are so many brilliant Star Wars series that are just BEGGING for sequels:

Jedi Knight
Republic Comando
Battlefront
Kotor

Oh, maybe he's trying to beat Bobby Kotick for Biggest All-Time Douche. Seriously, I'm pretty sure those games made by outside parties are loads better than what they can come up with. But if it continues like this, LucasArts is in serious trouble.
